DNC vice chair resigns, supports Sanders...

Democratic National Committee vice chair and Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is stepping down from her post at the DNC and throwing her weight behind Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign.
“First of all, I am resigning from the DNC so I can support Bernie Sanders for president,” Gabbard said early Sunday during NBC’s “Meet the Press” panel.
Gabbard, one of the first two female combat veterans to ever serve in Congress, stressed the importance of a leader with a “military mindset,” which she described as a candidate who knows “importantly, when we don’t use [U.S.] military power.”

The State Department does a Friday Benghazi document dump....

The State Department turned over 1,600 pages of previously undisclosed documents related to Hillary Clinton and Libya to the House Benghazi committee on Friday, a month after it revealed the existence of the documents in an unrelated court case.
The House Select Committee on Benghazi announced it received the records on Friday, adding that the State Department has yet to fully comply with document requests the committee made nearly a year ago.
“Today the State Department turned over more than 1,600 pages of new documents related to former Secretary Clinton and Libya,” the committee said. “The State [Department] claimed in a January 8th court filing that it only recently discovered these new documents from the Office of the Secretary.”

Only about 3 or 4 percent of the unaccompanied minors who have entered the country in the last two-and-a-half years have been returned to their home countries, Sen. Jeff Sessions charged on Tuesday.
“It cannot be that every young person that appears from Central America is entitled to asylum or entry into the united states, contrary to our laws,” Sessions said during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday. “It just cannot be. Does anybody in this government not understand that?”
Immigration officials testified that the border crisis could be mitigated if more people were sent home. “I don’t disagree with that,” Thomas Homan, a senior official at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told Sessions. “I think if you have a consequence of deterrence to illegal activity, the illegal activity will slow down.”

Donald Trump dominated once again Tuesday night, scoring what Fox News projects to be a convincing victory in the Nevada Republican Caucus — a third straight win that builds upon his momentum heading into Super Tuesday and delivers a sharp warning to his rivals and the party establishment that time may be running out to slow his march to the nomination.
The battle was still under way for second place. Incoming returns show Florida Sen. Marco Rubio holding an edge over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, but it was too early to call.
With 45 percent of precincts reporting, Trump led with 44percent, followed by Cruz at 23 percent and Rubio at 22 percent.

A clear majority of Democrats believe socialism has a “positive impact on society,” according to a poll by the American Action Network (AAN).
The political and economic system that wreaks havoc across the world from Venezuela to North Korea is enjoying widespread support in the modern Democratic Party.
A telephone poll of 1,000 likely Democratic primary voters found that when capitalism and socialism were polled head to head, socialism won by 15 percentage points, with just 25 percent of respondents saying they favored capitalism.
In terms of definition, the poll made clear that socialism meant a greater role for government in the economy and substantial wealth redistribution, but the idea itself was not clearly defined by its traditional meaning as government ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Number of classified emails on Hillary Clinton's home brew server now up to 1730...

They were perfectly safe there. Hillary wiped them with a cloth regularly.... 
WASHINGTON At least 1,730 emails that Hillary Clinton sent or received contained classified material, according to the State Department’s latest update from its ongoing review of more than 30,000 emails.
The State Department released a new batch of 1,116 pages of Clinton’s emails Friday evening in response to a court order. Of those, 64 contain classified information. All are at the confidential level, which is the lowest level of classification.
None of Clinton’s emails was marked as classified during her tenure, State Department officials say, but intelligence officials say some material was clearly classified at the time. Her aides also sent and received classified information.

Sanders tops Clinton in new national poll...

Te be honest, the 3 points is withing the margin of error and makes the poll a statistical dead heat, but Bernie clearly has momentum.

Bernie Sanders has passed Hillary Clinton at the top of a national poll for the first time in the 2016 race.
A Fox News poll released Thursday shows Sanders with 47 percent support to Clinton’s 44 percent.
That’s a gain of 10 percentage points for Sanders from the same poll in January. Clinton’s support declined 5 points.
Clinton posted leads as high as 30 percentage points over the summer, but Sanders has been steadily closing the gap. While no other poll of the race going back to 2014 has ever showed Clinton trailing a rival, she led Sanders by just 2 percentage points in the last two Quinnipiac University tracking polls.
It’s unclear whether the numbers are outliers or indicative of a dramatic change in the race. Outside of the Quinnipiac poll, Clinton posted double-digit leads in all three national polls conducted in February, with the largest lead coming in at 21 percentage points.

Trump fired back ferociously, saying it was "disgraceful" for a religious leader to question a person's faith.
The rare back-and-forth between pontiff and presidential candidate was the latest astonishing development in an American election already roiled by Trump's free-wheeling rhetoric and controversial policy proposals, particularly on immigration. It also underscored the popular pope's willingness to needle U.S. politicians on hot-button issues.

AFL-CIO can't decide if they want to endorse more corruption or more socialism in the Demo primary...

In a win for Bernie Sanders, the AFL-CIO is delaying making it’s endorsement in the surprisingly close Democratic presidential primary.
The news of the decision came in an email from Richard Trumka, the president of the AFL-CIO, to the union’s executive council. It was first reported by The Huffington Post Wednesday. A vote had been expected next week at the union’s annual winter meeting in San Diego.
“Following recent discussion at the AFL-CIO’s Executive Committee meeting and subsequent conversations with many of you, I have concluded that there is broad consensus for the AFL-CIO to remain neutral in the presidential primaries for the time being and refrain from endorsing any candidate at this moment,” Trumka said in the email.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said Wednesday that he doesn't think Republican senators should filibuster President Obama's Supreme Court nominee.
“I don't think we should filibuster Supreme Court nominees or any judicial nominees," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Wednesday.
Under a filibuster, 60 votes would be required to clear procedural hurdles ahead of a final confirmation vote.
At the same time, Hatch, a member of the Judiciary Committee, said in the interview that he would support whatever decision made by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the panel’s chairman.
He suggested that if Grassley so chooses, he could close down a debate over who should succeed Justice Antonin Scalia, who died on Saturday.
"All it would take is for Sen. Grassley to just say, ‘Look, we're not going to confirm anybody this year. The reason we're not going to confirm is because we value the court, we don't want it to be in this political atmosphere,’” Hatch said.
Hatch’s comments add to the mixed signals sent by Republicans over their strategy for handling an Obama nominee.

Louisiana Demo Gov. threatens GOP: Raise taxes or LSU football may get cancelled...

Louisiana Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards is suggesting the legendary Louisiana State University football team’s 2016 season might be canceled — and other doomsday consequences — unless the GOP-led legislature swiftly passes a package of tax increases to help close a looming $940 million budget shortfall.
Edwards, who took office just last month, made the suggestions Thursday night in a rare, state-wide TV address.
Among the worst-case scenarios, he said, is that college campuses would be forced to close in April, resulting in student-athletes receiving grades of “incomplete” on their report cards, making them ineligible for the fall 2016 season.
“That means you can say farewell to college football next fall,” Edwards said in the address.
The warning about the LSU Tigers football program, which has won three national championships, captured most of the headlines.

The government is providing some illegal immigrant families with smartphones to temporarily use as they travel throughout the United States to their “destination” cities.
GEO Care, a federal contractor, has started loaning smartphones to certain illegal immigrant families enrolled in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Family Case Management Program.
The FCMP is an alternative to detention that pairs illegal immigrants with social workers who help them get their footing in cities across the U.S. — including assisting the new arrivals with accessing housing, education, medical services and legal assistance — while they await immigration hearings.
The Obama administration has billed the program as a way to ensure the illegal immigrant families show up for their immigration hearings.

Senate GOP leaders claim they want to wait until 2017 to replace Justice Antonin Scalia

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday that the Senate should wait until a new president is elected to confirm a replacement for Justice Antonin Scalia, whose sudden death Saturday shook Washington and threatened to reshape the 2016 presidential race.
Democrats said that with 11 months left in Mr. Obama’s tenure, the Senate has enough time — and indeed an obligation — to confirm a replacement.
Mr. McConnell, though, said voters must be given a say in the matter, and that means picking a president who will nominate the replacement.
“The American people‎ should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president,” the Kentucky Republican said in a statement.
And Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley, who controls the committee schedule for handling nominees, likewise said he supports deferring until next year, saying Mr. Obama has already turned the courts into a political battleground, so voters should be asked to referee.

Illegal immigrants and individuals with unclear legal status wrongly benefited from up to $750 million in ObamaCare subsidies and the government is struggling to recoup the money, according to a new Senate report obtained by Fox News.
The report, produced by Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, examined Affordable Care Act tax credits meant to defray the cost of insurance premiums. It found that as of June 2015, “the Administration awarded approximately $750 million in tax credits on behalf of individuals who were later determined to be ineligible because they failed to verify their citizenship, status as a national, or legal presence.”
The review found the credits went to more than 500,000 people – who are illegal immigrants or whose legal status was unclear due to insufficient records.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services confirmed to FoxNews.com on Monday that 471,000 customers with 2015 coverage failed to produce proper documentation on their citizenship or immigration status on time – but stressed that this does not necessarily mean they’re ineligible.

Keane Schwarz is certain he knows the outcome of the vote in his precinct: He was the lone caucus goer in Woodbury County No. 43.
But the Iowa Democratic Party’s final results state that Hillary Clinton won one county delegate and Bernie Sanders received zero.
“I voted for Bernie,” Schwarz, 36, of Oto, told The Des Moines Register. “It was really suspicious … I’m actually pretty irate about it.”
Some complaints that Iowa Democrats have shared with the Register about discrepancies in caucus results appear to be valid. Others stem from confusion over how the math-heavy delegate-awarding system works in the Democrats’ caucus process.

Boy we missed this one: former House Speaker Marco Rubio and U.S. Senate candidate was a Miami-Dade County lobbyist from 1997 (when he was a West Miami Commissioner) until 2005. By then, he secured the needed votes to become House Speaker. Also that year, he reported a new salary of $300k with his new firm, Broad & Cassel, which has had dozens of clients who do business with the state.
Rubio never talked about his lobbying and that's because, his campaign said, he wasn't really a lobbyist. He was a lawyer representing clients.
"The reason Marco Rubio never spoke about his “lobbying” is because he was never a “lobbyist,” in the Tallahassee-influence-peddling sense of the word that Charlie Crist is all too familiar with," said campaign spokesman Alex Burgos, who has wayyyy more to say on this below****.  More here...
Perhaps Rubio deserves the Establishment label.

When Barack Obama visited the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamic Society of Baltimore on Wednesday, he said: “The first thing I want to say is two words that Muslim Americans don’t hear often enough: Thank you.”
While Obama has been President, Muslims have murdered non-Muslims, avowedly in the cause of Islam, at Fort Hood, Boston, Chattanooga, and San Bernardino, and attempted to do so in many, many other places. Imagine if armed Baptists screaming “Jesus is Lord” had committed murder, and explained that they were doing so in order to advance Christianity, in four American cities, and had attempted to do so in many others. Imagine that those killers were supporters of a global Christian movement that had repeatedly called for attacks on U.S. civilians and declared its determination to destroy the United States.
Imagine how incongruous it would be in that case for the President of the United States to visit a church and say: “The first thing I want to say is two words that Christian Americans don’t hear often enough: Thank you.” And imagine how unlikely it would be that Barack Obama would ever have done that.

Chris Christie is not finished with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
Speaking to a gaggle of reporters, the New Jersey Governor mocked Rubio as “the boy in the bubble” who continued to ignore his record on contentious issues like immigration reform.
“I’m not the boy in the bubble … you know who the boy in the bubble is up here – who never answers your questions, who’s constantly scripted and controlled, because he can’t answer your questions,” he said this morning, using the phrase “boy in the bubble” five times in only a few minutes.
Christie defied the media narrative that Rubio’s third place win in Iowa would help him sew up establishment support. He challenged reporters to take on Rubio once he got to New Hampshire, pointing out that the freshman senator was too cautious and scripted.
“Time for him to man up and step up and stop letting all of his handlers write his speeches and handle him, because that’s what they do,” Christie said. “But that’s what you have to do for someone who has never done anything in life.”

4. The caucuses have a poor track record of predicting the Republican nominee

In stark contrast, the Iowa Republican caucuses have a remarkably poor track record.
Since 1980, Iowa Republicans have accurately predicted the GOP nominee only twice: Bob Dole in 1996 and George W. Bush in 2000. In every other caucus, Iowa Republicans chose candidates that flopped outside Iowa.
Why are Iowa Republicans so far out of step with the rest of the country?
The answer is that Iowa Republicans are much more culturally conservative than the national average. Iowa GOP voters have consistently chosen polarizing, socially conservative presidential candidates over more electable establishment candidates.
For example, in 2008, the far-right social conservative candidate Mike Huckabee beat John McCain in Iowa. In 2012,  Rick Santorum, a Republican even more conservative than Huckabee, defeated Mitt Romney. But neither Huckabee nor Santorum received a lasting boost from winning Iowa, and both campaigns fell far short of winning the GOP nomination.

Wounded Warrior Project facing accusations of using donor money for conferences and parties

According to Charity Navigator Wounded Warrior Project only spends 59.9% of the money raised on wounded warriors. In contrast, Wounded Warriors Family Support spends 83.0%.

The Wounded Warrior Project, the charity for wounded veterans, has been placed on Charity Navigator’s watch list over accusations of using donor money toward excessive spending on conferences and parties instead of on recovery programs, according to CBS News.
According to the charity’s tax forms, obtained by CBS News, spending on conferences and meetings increased from $1.7 million in 2010, to $26 million in 2014, which is the same amount the group spends on combat stress recovery.
Charity Navigator is a watchdog organization that evaluates charities in the U.S.
Army Staff Sergeant Erick Millette, who returned from Iraq in 2006 with a bronze star and a purple heart, told CBS News he admired the charity’s work and took a job with the group in 2014 but quit after two years.
“Their mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors, but what the public doesn’t see is how they spend their money,” he told CBS News.
Millette said he witnessed lavish spending on staff, with big “catered” parties.

George Soros ponies up $6 million to elect Hillary Clinton...

Billionaire George Soros contributed $6 million to a super-PAC supporting Hillary Clinton last month, according to the committee’s latest financial statement.
The investor has now contributed a total of $7 million in this election cycle to Priorities USA Action, which raised $41 million on behalf of Clinton in 2015.
In the last 6 months, the super-PAC raised $25.3 million, meaning that Soros’s contribution accounted for almost a quarter of its fundraising haul.
Also making large contributions to the committee in 2015 were media mogul Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl, who gave a total of $5 million, philanthropist Laure Woods, who gave $2.3 million, and investor Donald Sussman, who contributed $2.5 million.
This group, along with Soros, accounted for two-fifths of Priorities total fundraising in 2015. Keep on reading…
