Harry Reid Plays the Race Card

Democrats love to play the African-American race card and accuse their opponents of being racist and secret Klan members. This time Harry Reid is playing the Hispanic race card.
“I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay. Do I need to say more?”

The truth is many Hispanics are culturally conservative. By a large majority, Hispanics oppose abortion and gay marriage. Many even oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants. They know how hard it is for honest immigrants to get permanent residence status. Having people who broke the rules (and law) jump to the front of the line strikes many as unfair. President Obama got 67% of the Hispanic vote according to some exit polls. Former President Bush, who was very pro-immigration reform, only got around 40% in 2006. Most of gains made by President Bush were in rural conservative southern and southwestern districts. Hispanics aren't much different from other ethnic groups. They have a strong tendency to vote their wallet. Republicans need to focus on pocketbook issues.
