Majority of Young American Adults Think Astrology Is a Science

Hugh Pickens DOT Com writes "Americans have always had a strange fascination with astrology. First Lady Nancy Reagan famously employed the services of an astrologer after the assassination attempt on her husband. Now UPI reports that according to a new survey by the National Science Foundation, nearly half of all Americans say astrology is either 'very' or 'sort of' scientific. Younger respondents, in particular, were the least likely to regard astrology as unscientific, with 58% of 18 to 24 years olds saying that astrology is scientific (PDF).

Eric Holder claimed “state secrets privilege” to keep from revealing FBI agent checked the wrong box...

WTF?

Via Wired:
After seven years of litigation, two trips to a federal appeals court and $3.8 million worth of lawyer time, the public has finally learned why a wheelchair-bound Stanford University scholar was cuffed, detained and denied a flight from San Francisco to Hawaii: FBI human error.
FBI agent Kevin Kelley was investigating Muslims in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004 when he checked the wrong box on a terrorism form, erroneously placing Rahinah Ibrahim on the no-fly list.
What happened next was the real shame. Instead of admitting to the error, high-ranking President Barack Obama administration officials spent years covering it up. Attorney General Eric Holder, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and a litany of other government officials claimed repeatedly that disclosing the reason Ibrahim was detained, or even acknowledging that she’d been placed on a watch list, would cause serious damage to the U.S. national security. Again and again they asserted the so-called “state secrets privilege” to block the 48-year-old woman’s lawsuit, which sought only to clear her name.
Holder went so far as to tell the judge presiding over the case that this assertion of the state secrets privilege was fully in keeping with Obama’s much-ballyhooed 2009 executive branch reforms of the privilege, which stated the administration would invoke state secrets sparingly.

Cockfight claims unexpected victim...

Karma baby...
Jose Ochoa died after a rooster stabbed him in the leg during an illegal cockfight near Tulare County, Calif.

The rooster had a razor-like knife attached to its leg, which the birds use to fight each other to the death, notes LA Weekly.

Ochoa may have lost too much blood by fleeing the police and waiting to be taken to the Delano Regional Medical Center.
“I have never seen this type of incident,” Sgt. Martin King told the Bakersfield Californian. “People have been known to bleed out from those injuries if medical attention is not obtained immediately.”

Ochoa has been charged previously for training roosters for cockfights, but he and other participants fled when police arrived. Police have found several dead roosters but have not arrested anyone yet.

I.R.S. targeted Conservative groups for tax audits...

100% of the groups audited that were already operating as 501(c)(4)s were Conservative, but there isn't a smidgen of corruption involved...

Via WSJ:
The IRS has been under scrutiny since an inspector general’s report last May found that the agency had targeted conservative groups for lengthy and heavy-handed review of their applications to become tax-exempt organizations under section 501(c) 4 of the tax code. The controversy led to significant management shakeups at the IRS and generated a slew of congressional investigations, some of which are still going on.
On Tuesday, House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R., Mich.) said his committee’s continuing investigation has found that the IRS also singled out established conservative tax-exempt groups for audits.
“We now know that the IRS targeted not only right-leaning applicants, but also right-leaning groups that were already operating as 501(c)(4)s,” Mr. Camp said in a statement. “At Washington, DC’s direction, dozens of groups operating as 501(c)(4)s were flagged for IRS surveillance, including monitoring of the groups’ activities, websites and any other publicly available information. Of these groups, 83% were right-leaning. And of the groups the IRS selected for audit, 100% were right-leaning.”

Why Canada Rocks...

Via Red Alert Politics
Watch out, Olympians. The Canadians have their very own fleet of beer fridges at their Olympic house.
And it really is just for them.
The fridges inside Canada Olympic House, which contain Molson Canadian products, can only be opened by scanning a Canadian passport. To give you a better picture, the brewer tweeted a photo of someone using one of the contraptions:

Such a clever way of them to keep non-Canadians away from their beer.

Obama limits High Schoolers to 800 calorie lunches; serves president of France 2,500 calories...

Shameful...

Via Washington Times:
The fattening state dinner being served at the White House Tuesday night for the president of France might prompt first lady Michelle Obama to tell guests afterward, “Let’s Move.”
They’ll need to burn off a few of the estimated 2,500 calories they’ve just consumed.
Rep. Rodney Davis, Illinois Republican and a critic of the administration’s school-lunch requirements, called the high-calorie State Dinner menu “the height of hypocrisy.”
“Even if you’re estimating a small cut of steak, this is a menu where you’re talking 2,500 calories, which is almost three times as much as what the first lady and the USDA allow our school kids to eat in the school lunch program,” Mr. Davis said.
