Tea Party Takeover? New Poll Finds 71% Republican Support

The Tea Party has always had a strong Republican base even though many members are Independents, Democrats or Libertarians. The Tea Party supporting GOP members have often been at odds with their mainstream GOP leadership. That has been very evident in this years primary system. The Tea Party has taken out several sitting Congressmen because they were RINOs too far to the the left of the Tea Party movement. The mainstream GOP leadership is losing the battle according to a new WSJ/NBC News Poll.
In the survey, 71% of Republicans described themselves as tea-party supporters, saying they had a favorable image of the movement or hoped tea- party candidates would do well in the Nov. 2 elections.
