The Hypocrisy of Hollywood

The Left Side of the Screen: Communist and Left-Wing Ideology in Hollywood, 1929-2009

Losts of Hollywood stars have been performing for Muammar Ghaddafi's sons at New Years blowouts in St. Barts over the last few years. The list includes Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Usher, Nelly Furtado and others. They are now donating the money to charity.
Usher has become the latest celebrity to hand money to charity after accepting a hefty fee to appear at a concert connected to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

A number of stars, including Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado, have admitted being paid to sing for the dictator's relatives.

Following the uprising in the country and controversy over Gaddafi's refusal to stand down as leader, all three singers have promised to hand their fee to good causes.
Mariah Carey blames the indiscretion on naivety.
Mariah’s official statement about the birthday event: “I was naïve and unaware of who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess. Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows. Ultimately we as artists are to be held accountable.”
If Mariah Carey and the other stars knew in advance who they were booked to perform for is unclear. However, the information about who was paying them has been common knowledge for many months now. It isn't like Gaddafi just became a bad guy today. What took these left-wing Hollywood types so long to respond?
