How much is your Congress Critter worth?

You might be surprised. Most are millionaires or well on their way.

Land of the free, home of the … rich Congress. Just as Congress is set to take on long-term unemployment benefits, the minimum wage, and food stamp legislation, they are also the richest they have ever been as a group. For the first time ever, most members of Congress are millionaires, according to a new report from the Center for Responsive Politics.

At least 268 of the 534 current members of Congress had an average net worth of $1 million or more in 2012, which amounts to just over half. The congressional median net worth was $1,008,767.

Democrats edged out Republicans just slightly, with a median net worth of $1.04 million to $1 million respectively.

Your Congressman May Start Packing Heat

Two Congressmen with conceal and carry permits will now be packing firearms when in their district. Can you blame them?

The Politico reported:

Several lawmakers are already changing their security arrangements in wake of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), and at least two lawmakers say they’ll now be packing firearms in public when they’re in their home districts.

Both Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) told POLITICO they will be carrying their guns in their home districts for protection. Both lawmakers hold a conceal and carry permit, but will not carry their weapons in the District of Columbia.
