So Bachmann has promised to bring gasoline below $2 a gallon — a 56% decrease from the current average price of $3.58 a gallon.
Now, there are a few things wrong with this. For one, the $1.79-a-gallon figure that Bachmann cites is from December 2008, before Barack Obama actually took office. (When Obama was inaugurated, gas cost $1.81 — not a big difference, I know, but how hard would it have been to get the right figure? The data are right here.) More important, though, is the reason that gas was — comparatively speaking — so cheap a few years ago. It wasn’t because the U.S. was suddenly pumping more oil, or because the Saudis had decided to flood the market, or because the head of ExxonMobil lost his mind and started to give all Americans a 2-for-1 deal on gas. The U.S. — and the world — was in the depths of the worst recession since the 1930s, depressing demand for everything from data centers to electricity to driving. It’s Econ 101: precipitous falls in demand usually trigger precipitous falls in price, which is what happened to gas prices, dropping from a high of $4.05 a gallon in mid-July 2008 to a low of $1.69 a gallon at the end of December that year. If you see sub-$2-a-gallon gas again, I strongly suggest that you stock up on bottled water and canned tuna, because the economic end times may be at hand.

Amusing Flashback: In 2011, Time attacked Michelle Bachmann for promising gas under $2 a gallon...
The whole point of the idiot who wrote this article was that cheap gas is caused by a poor economy, not more production as promised by Michelle Bachmann. Well, he was wrong and Bachmann was right. We now have an economy that isn't in recession and low oil prices precisely because of increased production.

Ouch: Bachmann’s Iowa Chairman Endorses Ron Paul
Personally, I thing Michelle Bachmann is a good conservative, but her campaign is effectively over. It is unlikely she will receive a top three finish in Iowa and that is her home state.
From Allahpundit:
The fact is, there is a clear top tier in the race for the Republican nomination for President, both here in Iowa and nationally. Ron Paul is easily the most conservative of this group...
He’s also consistently spoken out against government spending, assaults on individual liberties, and unnecessary trillion-dollar military adventurism for over 30 years. Polls show he is the Republican candidate that can take on and defeat President Obama in November 2012.
With the entire Republican establishment intent on smearing Ron Paul and his dedicated supporters, I understand this decision could impact the way people see me and my entire political career. But this is the right decision, and one in which I proudly stand behind.
Read more here…Personally, I think Kent Sorenson made a mistake. Even though it doesn't look like Bachmann has a chance in Iowa, you dance with the one you come with.

The Mainstream Media Failed to cover Obama's Medal of Honor Gaffe, but Are All Over Bachmann's John Wayne Gaffe
Michelle Backmann claimed the wrong John Wayne was born in a Missouri town. President Obama claimed he gave a fallen hero a Medal of Honor while he was alive. Which gaffe is worse? Which one do you think the mainstream media ignored?
Here is NBC all over Bachmann for her gaffe.
NBC Nightly News, which spent three straight nights mocking Palin on her Revere account, as reported by the MRC’s Rich Noyes, ignored Obama’s mistake, even as Jim Miklaszewski played clips from the very Fort Drum speech in which Obama made his screw-up. While CBS Evening News also covered Obama’s event with the troops they too failed to report Obama’s error. On ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer there wasn’t even a story on Obama at Fort Drum, but they did air bits of a David Muir interview with First Lady Michelle Obama which Sawyer teased this way: “And still ahead, right here on World News, the First Lady talks to David Muir, what she wants for her daughters when they fall in love.”
Here is NBC all over Bachmann for her gaffe.

Potential GOP 2012 Presidential Candidate Michelle Bachmann Joins Trump's Call For Obama To Show His Birth Certificate
Tea Party favorite Michelle Bachmann knows how to read polls. Donald Trump has skyrocketed to the top of some polls of potential 2012 GOP Presidential candidates. Bachmann appears ready to jump on that bandwagon. Sarah Palin has also made statements wondering why Obama is hiding his records. The rest of the field has staked out a position it is a distraction to ask what Obama is hiding. Look for them to be left in the dust.
