Obama to skip Nancy Reagan's funeral for a hipster festival...

I am guessing there is a very nice golf course near the festival...

Via Daily Caller:
President Barack Obama will not attend Nancy Reagan’s funeral this Friday, and will instead be in Austin, Texas for the annual South by Southwest festival.
His wife, Michelle, will be present at the funeral.
Following the former first lady’s death Monday, Obama said, “As somebody who is lucky enough to have an extraordinary partner in my life as well, I know how much she meant not just to President Reagan but to the country as a whole.”
The South by Southwest festival includes film, music, and technology conferences. On Friday, there will be film festival screenings, including for the new Peewee Herman movie, and SXSW comedy.
Obama will deliver a keynote address, urging “the audience to apply their ideas and talents in working with technology for future world issues.”

Man arrested for giving Westboro Baptist Church Biden funeral protesters coffee

All right. he threw it at them. I hope they let him off easy.
Three demonstrators from a Kansas church, known for its strident opposition to homosexuality and picketing of soldiers’ funerals, protested the funeral of Beau Biden on Saturday.
One man was arrested for throwing coffee at the protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., who picketed outside Wilmington’s St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church ahead of Biden’s funeral.
The three protesters held signs — including “America is doomed” — and sang anti-gay songs at the corner Pennsylvania Avenue and North Dupont Street for about an hour Saturday morning.

Obama blows off aunt's funeral; plays golf...

Priorities...
The New York Times reports:
After Zeituni Onyango, the woman President Obama once called Auntie, died in a South Boston nursing home this month, her closest relatives gathered her belongings at her nearby apartment. There, framed photographs of her with the president covered the wall.
Weeping before a polished wood coffin at her wake this past Saturday, they described Ms. Onyango, the half sister of the president’s father, as “the spirit of the Obama family” and talked about raising money to send her body back to Kenya. Mr. Obama helped pay funeral expenses and sent a condolence note, Ms. Onyango’s family members said, but the president did not attend, as he was golfing.

Snub: No current member of Obama administration attending Lady Thatcher’s funeral....

Obama was invited, but he is too busy downloading "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" on his iPod.

Via The Guardian:
The US is to send distinctly low-key official representation to Lady Thatcher’s funeral on Wednesday, with a delegation led by George Shultz and James Baker, who both served as US secretary of state while Thatcher was in power.
While Barack Obama was invited, he has opted to send a presidential delegation comprising no serving politicians. Shultz was secretary of state to Ronald Reagan while Baker served the elder George Bush. Also representing Obama will be Barbara Stephenson, chargĂ© d’affaires at the US embassy in London, and Louis Susman, the recently departed ambassador to Britain.
Separately, the Republican party is sending three members of the House of Representatives: Marsha Blackburn, who will lead the delegation, along with Michele Bachmann and George Holding. Blackburn is a leading fiscal conservative, while Bachmann, a member of the hardline conservative Tea Party faction, became internationally known during her spectacular if brief bid for the 2012 presidential nomination.
Another leading Republican conservative and attempted 2012 nominee, Newt Gingrich, is also among the confirmed attendees. Ronald Reagan’s widow, Nancy, was invited but has said she felt unable to make the trip aged 91.
