Trump Administration About To Throw Michelle Obama School Lunch Rules In The Crapper

There will be rejoicing in schools across America.

Via The Hill:
Newly minted Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue is expected to unveil a new rule Monday aimed at giving schools more flexibility in meeting federal nutrition standards for school lunches.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Friday that Perdue and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) will make the announcement at the Catoctin Elementary School in Leesburg, Va., where they are expected to eat lunch with the students.
Republicans have long been trying to dial back the standards that became a pillar of former first lady Michelle Obama’s initiative to curb childhood obesity in the U.S.
Roberts introduced legislation with Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) last year to give schools two more years to meet new reductions on sodium, but the bill never passed.
Renewed efforts to ease the federal standards came as disappointing news to some advocates.

Michelle Obama school lunch update: Mayo banned

Just a few days ago, Michelle Obama dined at a restaurant that cost  $1000 per couple. They probably had mayo.
FORT MILL, S.C. – Powerade was replaced with water. Mayo was banned, too.

Such are the conditions in the Fort Mills High School cafeteria.
“When lunch ends, I feel that the trash cans are more full than my stomach,” student Lindsey Russell tells the Fort Mill Times.
That’s happening because schools are required to give students certain types of foods to remain in compliance with National School Lunch Program regulations championed by First Lady Michelle Obama.
“If I don’t want an apple or piece of bread and I am handed them, I can guarantee that it will end up going to waste,” Russell says.
High school senior Luca Botzenhardt says he tastes a difference and he’s “disappointed.” Even the sauces taste differently this year.

Michelle Obama healthier lunch update: More waste, more cost, less participation...

In other words, a complete failure.

Via Washington Examiner:
As school children continue to protest Michelle Obama’s push for healthier lunches by dumping their full trays into garbage bins, the nation’s school boards are joining in to demand that the Obama administration let them off the hook of serving the costly and tasteless meals.
Armed with a national poll for National School Lunch Week, the National School Boards Association on Monday demanded that Washington address the “onerous requirements for federal school meal programs.”
How bad are the rules heralded by the first lady, who recently ripped Republicans for calling for the very program exceptions from the 2010 law sought by school administrators?
The survey of school leaders revealed:
— 83.7 percent of school districts saw an increase in plate waste.
— 81.8 percent had an increase in cost.
— 76.5 percent saw a decrease in participation by students.

Michelle Obama lunch program: Even salt shakers and packets are now illegal.

New studies show too little salt is actually unhealthy. This salt ban isn't based on science.

Via EAG News:
“I think we’ve gone too far, too fast,” Diane Zipay, director of nutritional services for the Westside School District told KIETV.com. “And I don’t think it’s a real-world environment. We might have changed the school but we haven’t changed the child or our world.”
The federal snack rules take effect this year for school districts across the country that participate in the federal free and reduced lunch program. They restrict snack foods sold at schools to those with at least 50 percent whole grain, with low sugar, fat and sodium content. Each snack must also come in under 200 calories, according to the news site.
That means a lot of popular snacks are now off the table, including donuts, brownies, potato chips, full flavor pop, candy bars, and most other foods teenagers prefer. Even salt shakers and packets are now illegal.

School Lunch Push Back: Michelle Obama "has been elected by no one,”

Local school boards are revolting...
MUSKEGO, Wis. – There’s growing heartburn over federal school lunch regulations and now school board members are lashing out at First Lady Michelle Obama, the champion of the program overhaul.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:
“We believe that proper food nutrition and meal portion guidelines are best decided at a local level,” said Rick Petfalski, School Board president for the Muskego-Norway School District.
Opting out of the program means Muskego-Norway will no longer receive federal money for its meals, but it also means the district is free to serve whatever it wants. [...]
Under the school lunch program regulations, Petfalski said, the district’s food service was projected to be headed toward a $54,000 deficit. By opting out — and presumably selling more food — he expects about a $7,100 surplus.
“By leaving the program we will not be required to follow these onerous guidelines, pushed by and large by Michelle Obama, who last I checked has been elected by no one,” Petfalski said.

First Lady Michelle Obama on feeding school kids more filling lunches: "This is unacceptable,"

Maybe Michelle should lose a few pounds before she worries about the size of someone else's children.

Via Breitbart:
First Lady Michelle Obama sent a strong message to Republicans in Congress who want to allow local school districts to opt out of the federal regulations on school lunches."This is unacceptable," she said during a roundtable discussion of the issue. “It's unacceptable to me not just as First Lady but also as a mother."The strict rules, passed in 2010, limit the amount of fat, calories, sugar, and sodium served in school meals.

Game on: Michelle Obama vows to fight GOP effort to roll back her school lunch mandates…

Sounding a new aggressive tone, first lady Michelle Obama vowed in a private conference call on Monday to fight industry efforts at rolling back healthy school-lunch standards, an issue that could come up for a vote on Capitol Hill later this week.
The remarks to health activists were made in an off-the-record conference call at the beginning of a week of intense lobbying around proposed changes in the national school-lunch program, which sets standards for fat, sugar and sodium levels in food.
“I was thrilled that the first lady pulled advocates together this morning and sounded such a strong rallying cry to fight back against efforts to weaken the school food standards,” said Margo Wootan, who lobbies on Capitol Hill and elsewhere on behalf of the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
A House Appropriations bill to be considered in committee later this week would allow schools to apply for waivers if they have a net financial loss on school food programs for six months in a row.

Rasmussen: Only 18% support Michelle Obama's war on your kid's school lunches...

Making lunch taste like vomit...

Via Rasmussen:
With school back in session for most children, first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign is back in the spotlight, but only 18% of Americans think the federal government should have a say in nutritional standards at schools.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% of Adults believe school nutritional standards should be set locally, with 36% who feel parent-teacher groups should do it and 16% who believe it should be up to local governments. This marks a seven-point shift in favor of local control from 45% in March who favored parent-teacher groups or local governments making the call. Fourteen percent (14%) think state governments should set the standards. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure.
