New Poll: Nearly three-fourths of Americans think Washington Redskins should keep their nickname

Personally, I am not a fan and don't have an opinion. I do have an opinion about the political correctness crowd.  It isn't favorable.

Via ESPN:
Nearly three-fourths of Americans favor letting the Washington Redskins keep their nickname, but the percentage who think it should be changed has tripled in the past two decades, according to a poll conducted by Langer Research for “Outside the Lines.”
Nearly a quarter (23 percent) of Americans surveyed now think the name should be changed, up from 8 percent in 1992 and up 9 percentage points in the past year alone.
The poll of 1,019 Americans, conducted on landlines and cellphones between Aug. 20 and Aug. 24, found that 71 percent favor keeping the nickname — but that’s down from 89 percent when the question was first asked 22 years ago. It also found that 68 percent of people responding think the nickname is not disrespectful of Native Americans, compared to just 9 percent who say it is “a lot” disrespectful. (Nineteen percent say it shows “some” disrespect.)
A total of 54 percent of respondents think the name is unlikely to be changed, compared to 42 percent who think it will. (The rest had no opinion.)

Hillary Clinton just lost the Redskins vote...

Hillary has evolved again...

Via The Hill:
Hillary Clinton on Tuesday became the latest Democrat to support changing the name of the Washington Redskins football team.
“I think it is insensitive, and I think that there is no reason for it to continue as a name of a team in our nation’s capital,” she said in an interview with Fusion.
“I would love to see the owners think hard about what they could substitute,” she added.
Clinton did not volunteer any possible new names for the franchise.

Washington Redskins’ trademark was revoked despite zero public complaints...

That's zero. Nada. None...
WASHINGTON – The recent decision by an obscure administrative law board to cancel the Washington Redskins’ trademark registrations came despite the fact the agency hadn’t received a single letter from a member of the public complaining about the team’s name, records show.
The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, which is part of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, ruled last month that the name was disparaging to American Indians. The team is appealing that decision.
Politicians, including President Obama, have waded into the team name controversy, with many saying the team should change its name. But despite widespread media attention and a legal fight that goes back more than a decade, the USPTO recently acknowledged there’s hardly been an avalanche of public complaints filed with the agency.
In fact, the agency doesn’t have any record of correspondence from the public about the Redskins’ name — expressing sentiments one way or another — prior to the board’s June 18 ruling.
A Freedom of Information Act request from The Washington Times asking for any communications from Congress or the public produced just 13 pages of records.

Democrats introduce bill to force 'Washington Redskins' to change their name...

Political correctness gone wild...

Via The Hill:
A group of House Democrats on Wednesday introduced a bill that would prevent the term “Redskins” from being trademarked, a move intended to put pressure on the Washington football club to change its name.

The Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013 is co-sponsored by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), and comes days after a federal trademark panel heard arguments over whether the team name was a slur. The panel could potentially overturn the team’s trademark, which would erode profits by allowing other businesses to sell apparel and goods featuring the Redskins name.

Earlier this month, Norton said the team “should consider” a new name.
