(Mirror News)- Cameras at petrol stations will automatically stop uninsured or untaxed vehicles from being filled with fuel, under new government plans.
Downing Street officials hope the hi-tech system will crack down on the 1.4million motorists who drive without insurance.
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras are already fitted in thousands of petrol station forecourts.
Drivers can only fill their cars with fuel once the camera has captured and logged the vehicle’s number plate.
Currently the system is designed to deter motorists from driving off without paying for petrol.
But under the new plans, the cameras will automatically cross-refererence with the DVLA’s huge database.
When a car is flagged as being uninsured or untaxed, the system will prevent the fuel pump being used on that vehicle.

Freedom Win: Atlanta Police Will No Longer Accost Citizens Who Film Them
Atlanta police have agreed to stop accosting citizens and seizing their cameras when citizens film them on a public street. And they are paying a $40,000 settlement.
(ajc)- Faced with complaints from a citizen watchdog group, Atlanta police will stop interfering with people who videotape officers performing their duties in public, an agreement reached with the city Thursday says.
The settlement, which also calls for the city to pay $40,000 in damages, requires city council approval.
The agreement resolves a complaint filed by Marlon Kautz and Copwatch of East Atlanta, a group that films police activity with cell phones and hand-held cameras. The group has volunteers who go out on patrols and begin videotaping police activity when they come across it.
Last April, Kautz said, he pulled out his camera phone and began recording Atlanta police who were arresting a suspect in Little Five Points. Two officers approached him and said he had no right to be filming them, Kautz said. When Kautz refused to stop, one officer wrenched Kautz's arm behind his back and yanked the camera out of his hands, he said. Read more here.

Obama the Camera Hog
![]() |
Republicans attended President Obama's bipartisan health care summit. The only thing they asked for was equal time to present their views. How did Obama do at allowing the Republicans equal time? Here are the speaking stats: Obama 119 minutes, Democrats 114 minutes and Republicans 110 minutes. It was practically a democratic filibuster. Even though he hogged the camera, Obama didn't offer the Republicans any serious compromise. President Obama insists on a massive overhaul and takeover of our health care system. A good analogy would be if you couldn't agree with your spouse what kind of new house to buy. You want a $200k ranch and they want a $1 million mansion. The compromise they offer you is you can help pick the color some of the rooms will be painted, but you have to agree to buy the mansion.
From the Washington Times:
By the end of the televised event, Mr. Obama had spoken for 119 minutes - nine minutes more than the 110 minutes consumed by 17 Republicans. The 21 Democratic lawmakers used 114 minutes, giving the president and his supporters a whopping 233 minutes, according to a "talk clock" kept by GOP aides....
