Interesting: You may have been beat at a violent video game by a Supreme Court Justice...

Supreme Court justices played violent video games as research for  2010 case concerning California's ban on the sale of violent video games to minors.

From the Associated Press:
Kagan said the justices often turn to their clerks, who are much younger, to help them understand new technologies.
But they also try to learn on their own. In one case, involving violent video games the first year she was on the court, justices who had never played the games before dove in and gave them a try, Kagan said.
“It was kind of hilarious,” she said.
She didn’t say which games they played.
I wonder which game they played? My guess is this:

Nancy Pelosi defends Hollywood's violent video games...

There is no way democrats are going against their Hollywood money base...

Via Weekly Standard:
“You have a lot of friends in Hollywood,” said host Chris Wallace. “Why don’t you go to them and publicly say, I challenge you to stop the video games?”
“I do think,” Pelosi responded, “I understand what you are saying, I’m a mother, I’m a grandmother, but … the evidence says that, in Japan, for example, they have the most violent games and the lowest death, mortality from guns. I don’t know what the explanation is for that except they may have good gun laws.”

Connecticut community to burn violent video games and movies...

Will violent books be next?

Via The Guardian:
A Connecticut community is to hold an amnesty of violent video games in the wake of last month's mass shooting in Newtown.

Organisers Southington SOS plan to offer gift certificates in exchange for donated games, which will be burned. The group, a coalition of local organisations, says its actions do not assert that video games were the cause of the killings in nearby Newtown, but argues that violent games and films desensitize children to "acts of violence".

Pupils from Sandy Hook elementary school, where 26 people were killed on 17 December, returned to classes for the first time on Thursday in the neighbouring town of Monroe. Sandy Hook elementary is still being treated as a crime scene and it is unclear if it will ever reopen.

Who is up for an Al Gore created global warming video game?

Al Gore created global warming. it seems appropriate that he create the video game version.
(KPCC) — Former Presidential candidate Al Gore is known for everything from inventing the Internet to alerting the world to the harsh realities of global warming. Now he’s collaborating with the creatives of PSFK on ”Gaming For Good”, challenging companies to create new games that address the same issues facing his Climate Reality Project – and also being fun to play.
After receiving 60 game proposals from around the world, the entries have been narrowed down to the 10 top finalists, which was then whittled down to four by Gore himself. Among the finalists are Greensquare, “a gaming platform that gives you and your friends a new, greener way to explore local retail store, restaurants and businesses”. Gore was particularly taken with REALiTREE, “a digital representation of our local environment and the role we are playing in sustaining its wellbeing.”
“Games are fun,” Gore told an audience at a “Gaming For Good” event in New York. “I am not saying this as an expert. But looking at the enormous amount of time people are spending playing games, I can see that social games for good represent a fantastic opportunity for encouraging change in political and social spaces.”
