Democrats are not on board with the tax hikes Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has proposed to pay for his single-payer healthcare proposal, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday.
“We’re not running on any platform of raising taxes,” Pelosi said during a press briefing to launch the Democrats’ yearly issues conference in Baltimore, Md. “We do want to have a fairer tax system, and … we hope that we can do that this year.”
Sanders on Monday acknowledged that his “Medicare-for-all” healthcare plan would require tax hikes on the middle class.
“We will raise taxes, yes we will,” Sanders said during a Democratic town hall in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Vermont senator, who’s running neck and neck with front-runner Hillary Clinton in Iowa just days ahead of the state’s caucuses, emphasized that the individual savings achieved under his healthcare plan would offset the costs of the tax increase. He called critics of the strategy “disingenuous.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday joined calls for a federal investigation into the California-based anti-abortion group that sparked the Planned Parenthood hidden camera controversy.
“Let’s have an investigation of those people who were trying to ensnare Planned Parenthood in a controversy that doesn’t exist,” Pelosi said Thursday in her first public remarks about Planned Parenthood since the first undercover video surfaced last week.
A long-time abortion rights champion, Pelosi dismissed accusations that Planned Parenthood has raked in profits from its fetal tissue donation program.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the four American hostages being held in Iran should not have been released as a pre-condition to the Iran nuclear deal, but she added that because “we have a nuclear agreement, that a much brighter light is being shone on the prisoners of conscience in Iran.”
At a Capitol Hill press conference, CNSNews.com asked Rep. Pelosi, “Do you think the four American hostages being held in Iran should have been released as a pre-condition to any deal made about Iran’s nuclear program?”
Pelosi answered, “No, no, it would have been good but it’s just — no, this is a nuclear deal. This is a nuclear agreement and I think that we have to –. I appreciate the fact that since we have a nuclear negotiation and now we have a nuclear agreement that a much brighter light is being shone on the prisoners of conscience in Iran

Asked if Romney has any shot at defeating Hillary Clinton in 2016, Pelosi told The Hill, “No, no. I mean, he might be a nice person — no offense, no offense — [but] let’s save you time.”
A smiling Pelosi added, “Let me put it this way — I hope he’s their nominee.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says fellow Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer’s (N.Y.) recent comments on ObamaCare are “beyond comprehension.”
Schumer caused a stir last month when he said Democrats “blew the opportunity the American people gave them” in 2008 by focusing on healthcare out of the gate instead of on measures to boost the middle class.
In an interview with The Washington Post published Monday, Pelosi noted that Schumer wrote the 1994 assault weapons ban that was blamed for Democratic losses that year.
She hit Senate Democrats for distancing themselves from President Obama in the midterm elections, and the party ended up dealing with heavy losses.
“Some senators even walked away from the president. That, I don’t get,” she said.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday provided a straightforward postmortem on the sweeping defeat her party suffered at the polls two days before: Democrats didn’t win, she said, because Democrats didn’t vote.
In a 75-minute call with the members of her caucus, the minority leader acknowledged the Democrats’ “terrible year” but argued that low voter participation — not the party’s message — was the root of the problem.
She’s vowing an all-out push to get more voters of all political persuasions to the polls in the future, and called this effort part of Congress’s “moral responsibility.”

After the shellacking House Dems have taken since Nancy Pelosi has been their leader, they should toss her out of any leadership position. Some prognosticators think it will be 2022 before Democrats have any hope of regaining control of the House.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi asked her fellow Democrats to keep her on as their leader in the new Congress next year, saying she still has unfinished goals she wants to accomplish.
She said the chief message she took from Tuesday’s election, which saw Democrats eviscerated at all levels, is that voter suppression was a problem.

I would like to say Nancy Pelosi is delusional when she claims democrats will sweep the House and presidency in 2016, but with the current GOP leadership more interested in fighting their base than democrats, anything is possible.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — About a month from the 2014 midterm elections House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was already predicting a sweep for her party in the 2016 election.
Referring to Republicans, Pelosi said, “Their days are numbered. I know that in two years there will be a Democratic Congress and a Democratic President.”
Pelosi has publicly urged former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to run for president and said if Clinton does decide to run she would win.
While she was clearly looking ahead the top House Democrat was careful not to concede the election this November. Pressed about the prediction she made earlier this summer that her party would pick up the 17 seats they would need to regain the majority in the House, Pelosi replied, “I think we will do OK.”

Apparently, Pelosi is now opposed to changing the law to make it possible to send back the 60,000 young illegal immigrants that have crossed out border this year.

WASHINGTON — Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the House Democratic leader, reversed course on Wednesday and said she would not back changes to a 2008 law that gave certain undocumented immigrant children broader legal rights to enter the United States.

Ms. Pelosi had suggested this month that she could accept changes to the Bush-era law that would expedite the deportation of children in exchange for President Obama’s emergency $3.7 billion request to deal with a sudden surge of unaccompanied minors at the border, mainly from Central America.

Since then, she said, Republican leaders have given little indication that they will back that funding request. One of her own members, Representative Henry Cuellar, Democrat of Texas, teamed up with Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas, this week to introduce legislation that would amend the 2008 law, which is intended to stop sex trafficking, but which grants migrant children from Central America extra legal protections that have made them harder to return quickly to their home countries....

Ms. Pelosi, in an interview on Wednesday, said she had spoken with Mr. Cuellar, and suggested it was not a friendly conversation.
