Donald Trump at Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally: U.S. treats “illegal immigrants” better than veterans

Trump has a point.

Via The Hill:
Donald Trump took his presidential campaign Sunday to a group he frequently boasts about aiding — veterans.
Speaking at the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C., the presumptive GOP presidential nominee told those gathered on the Mall, including veterans and their families, that the U.S. treats “illegal immigrants” better than veterans.
“We have to take care of our vets, and in many cases, illegal immigrants are taken better care of by this country than our vets, and that’s not going to happen,” Trump said at the rally, which is held annually to honor members of the military missing in action or made prisoners of war.
Motorcyclists gathered at the Pentagon and rode around the National Mall, before holding a rally by the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
Trump reiterated his pledge to “knock the hell” out of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on Sunday and promised to strengthen the military if elected.
“We’re going to make it bigger and bigger and better and stronger than ever before,” Trump said. “We have no choice. We have to do it.”

307,000 veterans died while waiting for healthcare...

I am speechless...
(CNN)Hundreds of thousands of veterans listed in the Department of Veterans Affairs enrollment system died before their applications for care were processed, according to a report issued Wednesday.
The VA’s inspector general found that out of about 800,000 records stalled in the agency’s system for managing health care enrollment, there were more than 307,000 records that belonged to veterans who had died months or years in the past.
In a response to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs’ request to investigate a whistleblower’s allegations of mismanagement at the VA’s Health Eligibility Center, the inspector general also found VA staffers incorrectly marked unprocessed applications and may have deleted 10,000 or more records in the last five years.
In one case, a veteran who applied for VA care in 1998 was placed in “pending” status for 14 years. Another veteran who passed away in 1988 was found to have an unprocessed record lingering in 2014, the investigation found.

MTV: Bruce Jenner as brave as veterans...

Bullsh*t...

Via MTV News:
This image of U.S. Army veteran Noah Galloway was shared all over the Internet. It was created as a negative response to ESPN announcing that Caitlyn Jenner would receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year’s ESPYs — but the negativity, or transphobia, was hidden in the positive description of the vet’s bravery. ESPN later confirmed to MTV that there’s “no such thing as a runner up for the [Arthur Ashe Courage award].”
Not only are images like this misleading, they suggest that one kind of courage is more valid than another — that a transgender person’s bravery is less than that of a veteran or an athlete. When you consider the statistic that 40 percent of transgender people will attempt suicide, Caitlyn’s example of living her truth has the power to give strength to so many who feel alone, trapped or confused. That’s brave

Veterans voted Republican by a 20 point margin last week...

That's because veterans are smart enough to know Obama and many democrats hates them.

Via WaPo:
Military veterans voted for Republicans by a 20 percentage-point margin over Democrats in House races last week, according to the national network exit poll. Veterans made up 17 percent of all voters this year, and their strong preference for Republicans should come as no surprise — Mitt Romney won veterans by 20 points in 2012 according to the American National Election Studies post-election survey (the exit poll did not ask veteran status that year). [...]
But even among these groups veterans tilt more Republican than the public at-large. The oldest veterans backed Republicans by 27 points, while non-veterans in the same age group favored Republicans by a 4-point margin. Veteran men backed Republicans by 26 points, compared with a 12-point margin among male non-veterans. Women are an exception to this trend — exit poll included fewer than 100 women, but they leaned toward Democrats by a slightly wider margin than the public overall.

US Airways flight attendant disrespects a veteran...

Let's hope this flight attendant is fired soon. She deserves it. Until then, there are other airlines.

Via Daily Mail:
US Airways has sparked outrage after a flight attendant allegedly refused to hang up an Army Ranger and combat veteran’s jacket to stop it from creasing.
First Sargent Albert Marle was wearing a jacket lined with medals when he boarded Flight 1930 from Portland, Oregon, to Charlotte, North Carolina, yesterday.
But when he asked an attendant to hang up his ‘Dress Blues’ uniform, she reportedly refused, saying the coat closet was for first-class passengers only and he was seated in coach.
‘Her response wasn’t that there’s not space in the coat closet or “I’ve hung too many jackets up”,’ said Brian Kirby, a first-class passenger on the four-hour flight.
‘It was just simply,”Our airline policy says I’m not going to do it, so I’m not going to do it.” I was really appalled at not only the way she looked at him but the way she spoke to him – in an angry way.’
Shocked first-class fliers then offered their seats to Sgt Marle, but the decorated soldier politely declined their offers and remained seated in coach, passengers told WSOC TV in Charlotte.
Some even claimed the flight attendant shouted at fliers who tried to ask other attendants to hang up Sgt Marle’s decorated jacket to prevent it from wrinkling.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) chooses surfing over veterans...

Demo Rep. Tulsi Gabbard skipped a veterans hearing to go surfing...

Via The Hill:
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) missed a hearing on veterans issues in August because she was surfing with a reporter who was producing a profile of the freshman congresswoman, the Honolulu Civil Beat reported.
She later used the video associated with the profile as part of a fundraising appeal.
Gabbard was scheduled to attend a field hearing being held in Honolulu by the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee addressing issues with the Veteran Health Administration. Gabbard was shown leaving the shore at 9:15 a.m. in the video, which was produced by Yahoo News. The meeting was set to begin at 10 a.m.

Obama speaks to American Legion. Vets sit on their hands.

It was classy of them not to boo him off the stage.

Via Daily Mail:
President Barack Obama faced a tough crowd on Tuesday – American military veterans – and fell flat on his applause lines as he failed to win over the American Legion’s convention-goers.
His 35-minute speech seemed to have reminded the audience of the stark divide between the White House’s policy choices and the feelings of the men and women often called on to carry them out.
A Virginia legionnaire who served in the U.S. Marine Corps told MailOnline that ‘a small group of Obama’s admirers – and there are some here – sat near the front and tried to generate applause for him about 10 times.’
‘They didn’t get much pickup,’ the retired lieutenant colonel said of the ‘instigators’ gathered at the Charlotte, North Carolina event, but ‘they were persistent. You could tell when the applause was genuine and when it wasn’t. It was obvious to everyone here.’
Most of the veterans sat on their hands, leaving awkward silences where White House speechwriters expected ovations.

Actual Feel Good Story: Lowe's employees fix disabled vets wheelchair...

This makes me want to shop at Lowe's...

Via Staten Island Advance
In 1971, I stepped on a land mine in Vietnam and lost both legs above the knee.
For the past two years, I have been waiting to receive a new wheelchair from the Veterans Administration. In addition, I have been told that I am not entitled to a spare wheelchair.
On the evening of July 7, my wheelchair fell apart again, while shopping at Lowe’s Home Improvement Center in on Forest Avenue in Mariners Harbor.
Three employees, David, Marcus and Souleyman jumped to my assistance immediately. They placed me in another chair while they went to work.
They took the wheelchair apart and replaced the broken parts and told me, “We’re going to make this chair like new.”
I left 45 minutes after closing hours in my wheelchair that was like new.
I kept thanking them and all they could say was, “It was our honor.”

Trickery: Shinseki top aide who is resigning was scheduled for retirement in 2014...

“Oh, what a tangled web we weave...when first we practice to deceive.”
― Walter ScottMarmion

Via The Washington Examiner:
"You're saying there's a suggestion that something terrible happened in Phoenix, and that's under investigation; all we know is its a suggestion," White House press secretary Jay Carney told ABC's Jonathan Karl while defending Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki during Friday's press briefing. "We should just accept allegations as true without investigating them?"

And then, news broke that one of Shinseki's top aides had resigned. “Today, I accepted the resignation of Dr. Robert Petzel, Under Secretary for Health in the Department of Veterans Affairs," Shinseki said in a statement. "As we know from the veteran community, most veterans are satisfied with the quality of their VA health care, but we must do more to improve timely access to that care. I am committed to strengthening veterans' trust and confidence in their VA healthcare system."

By the way, the VA announced in September that Petzel would retire in 2014 and has been searching for his replacement for the past eight months.

Unintended consequences: Veterans evicted from nursing homes because of minimum wage hike...

It's not like the Obama administration cares anything about veterans.
SHREVEPORT, La -Some military veterans are being forced to leave their nursing home. It’s an unintended consequence of President Obama’s executive order in February to raise the minimum wage for new federal contract workers from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour.
Sandy Franks, public affairs officer at Shreveport’s Overton Brooks V. A. Medical Center, explains that nursing homes that have contracts for subsidized care from the Veterans Administration become federal contractors. If they refuse to raise their wages, their contracts will not be renewed.
Former Marine A.J. Crain just wheeled himself into his new room at Shreveport Manor on Mansfield Road when he got the news that the home’s contract will end this month.
“We fought all your wars, and now we’re broke. Where do we go from here?” Crain asks.

A Veteran responds to Paul Ryan fundraising letter

Paul Ryan betrayed veterans and conservatives in his budget deal with the devil democrats. He then sent a fundraising letter to one of the veterans he betrayed. Here is the veteran's response.

FB Friends,

I’m still mulling this Paul Ryan budget deal that stole money from every military retiree (past, present and future). This morning, upon opening my email, I noticed I had a letter from Congressman Paul Ryan…and it was begging me for an “emergency end of the year donation.” It only proves what we already know. The folks in Washington are indeed clueless. Instead of hitting the delete button, I decided to call Congressman Ryan out on his audacity and lack of self-awareness. I sent the following to him. I’m also posting it on the FB USAF Chiefs page as an open letter to the Congressman. If you’re a retiree, I will tell you we may have lost the battle, but not the war. If you’re inclined and find it worthy, let’s flood social media with this letter and see if we can get some traction. Thanks.

To Congressman Paul Ryan
Congressman Ryan,
Please note that this request by you for a cash donation from me is extremely unfortunate and very ill-timed. You see sir, I am one of the military retirees your “bipartisan” budget just impacted. You and every Republican (both in the House and Senate that voted to pass this travesty betrayed and broke trust with me and everyone like me. You may not know us by name, but we’re the people, Congressman, who answered our Nation’s call, some of us at a very early age to willingly serve YOU and others LIKE YOU so you could safely attend college and pursue your personal ambitions without fear of harm.
You might also want to note that for at least 20 years, my brothers-in-arms answered that call of duty EVERY SINGLE DAY, without fail, without complaint, without enough money to sustain our loved ones we had to leave behind while we DID OUR JOB in every corner of the Earth. And for that service, we were given absolute assurance our so-called retirement benefits would be protected by law. The very law you shattered in your zeal to impress your Democratic cohorts in your back room deal–with the enemy. Yes, I said it. The liberal Democrats are an enemy to the American people and our Nation. Your lack of judgement and eagerness to compromise on the backs of us who protected you is sickening. Congressman, you and every Republican that voted for injuring military retirees have engaged in a complicit, sordid affair with the Democrats who’s objective has always been to dismantle the military. By climbing into their bed on this issue, you have confirmed you are absolutely no better than they and have proven it with your vote.
Congressman Ryan, the audacity which you display is noteworthy, but to unceremoniously snatch earned money from a small group that has added so much more value than the paltry $6B you looked to “save” (which is all smoke and mirrors and you know it), is reprehensible and insulting.
We have, despite the hardships, meager salaries and harsh conditions, have performed with honor and excellence…in silence, which is something most members of Congress have no idea about doing. Our job approval was, is and always be better than yours. We knew our mission and we got it done, then handed it off to a new generation in better shape than we found it.
Your ability to look us in the eye, take money from us (apparently there was ZERO, other source of waste within the federal government that you could have recovered this money from…right, got it), while simultaneously holding your hand out to beg (with passion) for our cash is stunning. Your actions have proven you do not have the tremendous intellect you’ve sold the American people on. I say, with all seriousness, Congressman, what you lack in intellect and spinal rigidity, you make up for in cajones.
I hope you and your cowardly, Republican “colleagues” hear a message from me loud and clear. You will NEVER receive another cent of financial support from me. Further, if you happen to be at a Capitol Hill dinner or at a K Street cocktail party with RNC Chair Reince Priebus, Rep. Ron Barber, Sen. Jeff Flake or Sen. John McCain, I would be honored if you communicate with them that I am launching an effort to ensure NONE of you traitorous “representatives of the people” ever receive another vote from a military retiree. Remove me from your contact lists.
Chuck Wooten,
Chief Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret)
