Feel Good Story: Dog stands guard over trapped friend for a week...

You can't buy loyalty like this. It ended well and the trapped dog was rescued.

Via USA Today:
Thanks to a loyal setter and a group of volunteers, two dogs were found safe after a week lost in the woods in Washington state.
Tillie, the setter, stayed with her doggie friend Phoebe for a week. She left each day to go find help. Phoebe a basset hound, was trapped in a concrete cistern in a ravine where Tillie stood guard.
The nonprofit animal rescue organization Vashon Island Pet Protectors had posted photos of the dogs on their Facebook page, hoping someone would spot them. On Sept. 14, they received a call saying that while they were out on their property, a “reddish” dog had come up to them a few times, before promptly heading back into a ravine.

Feel Good Story: Kenya mall attack mastermind killed in U.S. drone strike

Good riddance...

Via CBS News:
U.S. officials confirm that Adan Garar, said by U.S. intelligence to be the mastermind of the Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya, was killed in a drone strike this week.
CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the strike was carried out Thursday in southern Somalia. Garar was traveling in a car hit by Hellfire missiles from a Predator drone.
At least 67 people were killed in the 2013 attack.
Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in retaliation for Kenya's sending of troops into Somalia.
A senior Kenyan official, who insisted on anonymity because he wasn't authorized to give the information to the media, told the Associated Press that Garar was also suspected of planning failed attacks on Kenya's coast and in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, last year.

Yes. There are still some good guys in blue uniforms.

Via Daily Mail:
The compassion shown by Officer William Stacy to desperate Alabama mother Helen Johnson captured the nation’s attention at a time of strained relations between the police and black Americans.
Instead of arresting her for stealing five eggs to feed her starving family on Saturday, Stacy bought the carton and the touching hug they shared afterwards caught on video by a stunned passer-by went viral.
But it got even better on Wednesday when Officer Stacy and some colleagues arrived at 47-year-old Johnson’s home with two truckloads of food to keep her and her children and grandchildren fed through Christmas.

Feel Good Story: 14 IS militants killed loading chlorine gas into warhead...

Evidence God is not on their side...
Baghdad, Sep 16 (IANS/EFE) At least 14 members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were killed Tuesday near Baghdad when a rocket whose warhead they were filling with chlorine gas exploded.
Iraqi security officials said seven more IS militants were injured in the incident, which occurred near the town of al-Dhuluiya, about 90 km north of Baghdad.
Al-Dhuluiya was also where four members of the Iraqi security forces and Shiite militiamen suffered symptoms of asphyxiation after inhaling chlorine gas released by two improvised explosive devices.
It was the first time that chlorine has been used as a weapon in Iraq, although it is not uncommon in neighbouring Syria, where the regime's use of it has been denounced by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Actual Feel Good Story: Lowe's employees fix disabled vets wheelchair...

This makes me want to shop at Lowe's...

Via Staten Island Advance
In 1971, I stepped on a land mine in Vietnam and lost both legs above the knee.
For the past two years, I have been waiting to receive a new wheelchair from the Veterans Administration. In addition, I have been told that I am not entitled to a spare wheelchair.
On the evening of July 7, my wheelchair fell apart again, while shopping at Lowe’s Home Improvement Center in on Forest Avenue in Mariners Harbor.
Three employees, David, Marcus and Souleyman jumped to my assistance immediately. They placed me in another chair while they went to work.
They took the wheelchair apart and replaced the broken parts and told me, “We’re going to make this chair like new.”
I left 45 minutes after closing hours in my wheelchair that was like new.
I kept thanking them and all they could say was, “It was our honor.”

Actual Feel Good Story: Red Lobster Server Does Something Special...

Hat tip to Weasel Zippers for this great story. I ate at Red Lobster on July 4th. I hadn't been there in a year and was pleasantly surprised by the improved service and fresh food.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – A Columbia, Mo. Red Lobster server went above and beyond her duty recently, picking up the tab for a widow celebrating her wedding anniversary with her daughter.
For 31 years the woman and her husband spent their anniversary at Red Lobster. The unidentified woman’s husband passed away in March, so her daughter decided to keep the tradition alive, taking her mom out for an anniversary meal.
The daughter’s brother, Reddit user Coppin-it-washin-it, said the server asked his mom and sister if they were celebrating anything special. His sister explained to the server her parents’ tradition, and the rest of the meal went normally. Until it was time for the bill.
Instead of giving them the bill, the server handed them a note. Coppin-it-washin-it posted a photo of it on Reddit....
(See above)

NewsChannel 5 confirmed the authenticity of the note with a spokesperson for Darden Restaurants.
“What Taylor, the server, and Chad, the manager on duty, did demonstrates how our teams live Red Lobster’s core values of genuine caring and hospitality each day,” said spokesperson Erica Ettori. “All of us at Red Lobster are truly proud of the Columbia team and appreciate their commitment to making every guest’s dining experience a special one. We also extend our wishes to the family who dined with us and look forward to serving them again next year!”

Feel Good Story: Suicide bomb instructor blows up and takes 22 students with him...

He suffered from premature explosion...

Via The New York Times:
A group of Sunni militants attending a suicide bombing training class at a camp north of Baghdad were killed on Monday when their commander unwittingly conducted a demonstration with a belt that was packed with explosives, army and police officials said.
The militants belonged to a group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, which is fighting the Shiite-dominated army of the Iraqi government, mostly in Anbar Province. But they are also linked to bomb attacks elsewhere and other fighting that has thrown Iraq deeper into sectarian violence.
Twenty-two ISIS members were killed, and 15 were wounded, in the explosion at the camp, which is in a farming area in the northeastern province of Samara, according to the police and army officials. Stores of other explosive devices and heavy weapons were also kept there, the officials said.
Eight militants were arrested when they tried to escape, the officials said.
The militant who was conducting the training was not identified by name, but he was described by an Iraqi Army officer as a prolific recruiter who was “able to kill the bad guys for once.”

Feel Good Story: 15 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed when a vehicle laden with explosives prematurely went off in a house

Prepare 1080 virgin goats...
(Africa Review) — Up to 15 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed when a vehicle laden with explosives went off in a house in Buloburte town, some 200 km north of the capital Mogadishu.
It was not clear if the militants died while packing the car with bombs for a suicide mission or if it went off afterwards while they were in the vicinity.
Resident said that they believed 20 more were wounded, local media houses in Mogadishu reported.
“The militants were most likely packing the vehicle with explosive devices or in the house when the deadly incident occurred,” said a resident who asked the media not to release their name.
Residents said the militants were on Tuesday busy burying the dead while keeping the scene of the blast sealed off from the general public.
It is not the first time vehicles being assembled for suicide missions in Somalia have exploded while still under the care of the militants.
On some occasions, residents in the affected areas, especially in Mogadishu, said that foreign jihadists (holy warriors) were among those killed or injured.
Sometimes landmines have also blown up while being planted by the militants.
