War Drums: Israel bombs Syria for a second time
Israel knows what a red line means. Barack Obama, not so much...
BEIRUT (WaPo) — Israeli warplanes bombed the outskirts of Damascus early Sunday morning for the second time in two days, according to Syrian state media and reports from activists, signaling a sharp escalation in tensions between the neighboring countries that had already been exacerbated by the conflict raging inside Syria.
Videos posted on the Internet by activists showed a huge fireball erupting on Mount Qassioun, a landmark hill overlooking the capital on which the Syrian government has concentrated much of the firepower it is using against rebel-controlled areas surrounding the city.
The official Syrian news agency SANA said that a scientific research facility had been struck by an Israeli missile, and a banner displayed on state television said the attack was intended to relieve pressure on rebel forces in the embattled eastern suburbs. The banner was accompanied by martial music and footage of Syrian soldiers marching, descending from helicopters and firing rockets, indicating that Syria may not shrug off the assault as it has with some Israeli strikes in the past.
A subsequent video suggested further strikes were taking place in the same location, though the number was unclear.

Feel Good Story: 15 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed when a vehicle laden with explosives prematurely went off in a house
Prepare 1080 virgin goats...
(Africa Review) — Up to 15 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed when a vehicle laden with explosives went off in a house in Buloburte town, some 200 km north of the capital Mogadishu.
It was not clear if the militants died while packing the car with bombs for a suicide mission or if it went off afterwards while they were in the vicinity.
Resident said that they believed 20 more were wounded, local media houses in Mogadishu reported.
“The militants were most likely packing the vehicle with explosive devices or in the house when the deadly incident occurred,” said a resident who asked the media not to release their name.
Residents said the militants were on Tuesday busy burying the dead while keeping the scene of the blast sealed off from the general public.
It is not the first time vehicles being assembled for suicide missions in Somalia have exploded while still under the care of the militants.
On some occasions, residents in the affected areas, especially in Mogadishu, said that foreign jihadists (holy warriors) were among those killed or injured.
Sometimes landmines have also blown up while being planted by the militants.

Amusing: Matt Damon’s anti-fracking film “Promised Land” bombs...
If you have natural gas heat and have noticed that your heat bill has been lower the last two years, you should thank fracking.Ironically, environmentalist oppose fracking, but increased use of natural gas has significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the U.S.

Matt Damon’s much hyped anti-fracking film “Promised Land” has failed to make the impact that its producers and environmental groups had hoped for. As of January 20, “Promised Land” has raked in a whopping total of $7,542,000 since it opened on December 28, according to Box Office Mojo. According to The Hill, the movie cost $15 million to make. Box Office Mojo ranked it 139 out of all movies from Jan. 23, 2012 to Jan. 21, 2013.
Matt Damon said that he didn’t make a biased movie and claimed to have just wanted to start a conversation on the subject. “Nobody wants to go see a movie where they get a message at the end. That really wasn’t our intent. It was just to show this moment in time in our country, and what happens when big money collides with real people, people who are struggling on the back end of a recession.” he told The Morning Call, a Lehigh Valley, Pa., newspaper. Apparently Damon was right about nobody wanting to go see his movie.

“We heard a massive explosion that terrified people and when we went to the house it was destroyed and everyone there was dead,” the official said.

Report: Taliban plan to suicide bomb Code Pink...
The irony of Code Pink getting bombed while protesting drone strikes can not be ignored...
ISLAMABAD (AP) — A group of American anti-war activists are in Pakistan to join a march into the country’s tribal belt to protest U.S. drone strikes in the rugged northwest territory. Their presence has energized organizers behind the protest but also added to concerns that Islamist militants will target the weekend event.
The two-day march — in reality a long convoy — is to be led by Imran Khan, the former cricket star-turned-politician who has become a top critic of the American drone strikes in Pakistan.
It is to start Saturday in Islamabad and end in a town in South Waziristan, a tribal region that has been a major focus of drone strikes as well as the scene of a Pakistani army offensive against militants.
The American activists — around three dozen representatives of the U.S.-based activist group CODEPINK — along with Clive Stafford Smith, founder of the London-based legal advocacy organization Reprieve, want to march with Khan and publicize the plight of communities affected by the U.S. drones.
Ahead of the march, local media carried reports Friday of alleged suicide bombings planned against the demonstration and a pamphlet distributed in a town along the march route warned participants they would face danger. The main Pakistani Taliban faction issued a statement criticizing the event.

Strange: Phoenix has a flashlight bomber
Phoenix has been plagued by a series of exploding abandoned flashlights. Police have resorted to putting up billboards to warn people. The motive is unknown.
PHOENIX — Flick the switch on these flashlights and they don't light up. They blow up.
Three of these bombs have exploded within the last month in the Phoenix area, causing minor injuries to five people and raising fears of more serious ones.
Police still have no idea who is behind them and have taken the unusual step of putting up 22 billboards across the sprawling metro area to warn residents about discarded flashlights.
"The nature of the bombings are so random," said Tom Mangan, a special agent at the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Phoenix.
Mangan said the agency has ruled out any connection to terrorism because the targets have been random and there have been no messages or demands. Read more here...

Prepare for your TSA sponsored body cavity search at the airport
Al-Qaida has upgraded their underwear bomb to nonmetallic. Also, they are experimenting with implantable bombs.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The CIA thwarted an ambitious plot by al-Qaida’s affiliate in Yemen to destroy a U.S.-bound airliner using a bomb with a sophisticated new design around the one-year anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden, The Associated Press has learned.
The plot involved an upgrade of the underwear bomb that failed to detonate aboard a jetliner over Detroit on Christmas 2009. This new bomb was also designed to be used in a passenger’s underwear, but this time al-Qaida developed a more refined detonation system, U.S. officials said.
The FBI is examining the latest bomb to see whether it could have passed through airport security and brought down an airplane, officials said. They said the device did not contain metal, meaning it probably could have passed through an airport metal detector. But it was not clear whether new body scanners used in many airports would have detected it.
The would-be suicide bomber, based in Yemen, had not yet picked a target or bought his plane tickets when the CIA stepped in and seized the bomb, officials said. It’s not immediately clear what happened to the alleged bomber.

Iran claims bomb used to kill their nuclear scientist was made in the USA
Let's hope so.
(Arutz Sheva)- An Iranian newspaper report claimed Monday that the bomb used to assassinate a nuclear scientist last month was "made in the USA."
The bomb used to kill Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, 32, was one of two that were delivered to Iran via members of PJAK, the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan, a Kurdish separatist group, the Resalat daily newspaper reported Monday.
The second bomb was discovered and defused by intelligence and security personnel deployed around Resalat Square in Tehran, according to the report.
Iran claimed last month it had arrested an unidentified number of unnamed suspects in connection with the assassination, saying the scientist's killers had been "identified."
