That 97% number climate change believers love to cite is really only 43%

The science is not settled. Of course, Obama would call the 57% who have some level of skepticism  'flat-Earth society' members.
I used to think there was a consensus among government-funded certified climate scientists, but a better study by Verheggen Strengers, Verheegen, and Vringer shows even that is not true.[1] The “97% consensus” is now 43%.
Finally there is a decent survey on the topic, and it shows that less than half of what we would call “climate scientists” who research the topic and for the most part, publish in the peer reviewed literature, would agree with the IPCC’s main conclusions. Only 43% of climate scientists agree with the IPCC “95%” certainty.
More than 1800 international scientists studying various aspects of climate change (including climate physics, climate impacts, and mitigation) responded to the questionnaire. Some 6550 people were invited to participate in this survey, which took place in March and April 2012. Respondents were picked because they had authored articles with the key words ‘global warming’ and/or ‘global climate change’, covering the 1991–2011 period, via the Web of Science, or were included the climate scientist database assembled by Jim Prall, or just by a survey of peer reviewed climate science articles. Prall’s database includes some 200 names that have criticized mainstream science and about half had only published in “gray literature”. (But hey, the IPCC quoted rather a lot of gray literature itself. Donna LaFramboise found 5,587 non peer reviewed articles in AR4.)

Six Italian seismologists jailed for failing to predict earthquake cleared of manslaughter charge...

Six Italian seismologists were previously given six years sentences for manslaughter for failing to predict earthquakes. An appeals court has now cleared them. Local citizens are angry with the decision. This is what happens when socialists control your educational system for many years.

Via
Six seismologists accused of misleading the public about the risk of an earthquake in Italy were cleared of manslaughter on 10 November. An appeals court overturned their six-year prison sentences and reduced to two years the sentence for a government official who had been convicted with them.
The magnitude-6.3 earthquake struck the historic town of L’Aquila in the early hours of 6 April 2009, killing more than 300 people.
The finding by a three-judge appeals court prompted many L’Aquila citizens who were waiting outside the courtroom to react with rage, shouting “shame” and saying that the Italian state had just acquitted itself, local media reported. But it comes as a relief to scientists around the world who had been following the unprecedented case with alarm.

Interesting: Russian scientists claim we could be in for a cooling period that lasts 200-250 years

Before you dismiss Russian scientists reports of global cooling, remember we are hitching a ride into space based on their technology.

Global warming which has been the subject of so many discussions in recent years, may give way to global cooling. According to scientists from the Pulkovo Observatory in St.Petersburg, solar activity is waning, so the average yearly temperature will begin to decline as well. Scientists from Britain and the US chime in saying that forecasts for global cooling are far from groundless. Some experts warn that a change in the climate may affect the ambitious projects for the exploration of the Arctic that have been launched by many countries.

Just recently, experts said that the Arctic ice cover was becoming thinner while journalists warned that the oncoming global warming would make it possible to grow oranges in the north of Siberia. Now, they say a cold spell will set in. Apparently, this will not occur overnight, Yuri Nagovitsyn of the Pulkovo Observatory, says.

“Journalists say the entire process is very simple: once solar activity declines, the temperature drops. But besides solar activity, the climate is influenced by other factors, including the lithosphere, the atmosphere, the ocean, the glaciers. The share of solar activity in climate change is only 20%. This means that sun’s activity could trigger certain changes whereas the actual climate changing process takes place on the Earth”.

Solar activity follows different cycles, including an 11-year cycle, a 90-year cycle and a 200-year cycle. Yuri Nagovitsyn comments.

Obama: “I’m glad I’ve been promoted Scientist-in-Chief,”

Great! Now, let's release those college records so Americans can see how smart you are...

Via Weekly Standard:
At a speech this morning at the White House to outline a new science initiative, President Barack Obama named himself “Scientist-in-Chief.”
“I’m glad I’ve been promoted Scientist-in-Chief,” Obama said to laughter at the White House. “Given my grades in physics, I’m not sure it’s deserving.  But I hold science in proper esteem, so maybe that gives me a little credit.”
Obama said he brought together a lot of smart people, which would help grow the eocnomy. “Today I’ve invited some of the smartest people in the country, some of the most imaginative and effective researchers in the country — some very smart people to talk about the challenge that I issued in my State of the Union address:  to grow our economy, to create new jobs, to reignite a rising, thriving middle class by investing in one of our core strengths, and that’s American innovation,” said Obama.

Iran claims bomb used to kill their nuclear scientist was made in the USA

Let's hope so.
(Arutz Sheva)- An Iranian newspaper report claimed Monday that the bomb used to assassinate a nuclear scientist last month was "made in the USA."

The bomb used to kill Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, 32, was one of two that were delivered to Iran via members of PJAK, the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan, a  Kurdish separatist group, the Resalat daily newspaper reported Monday.

The second bomb was discovered and defused by intelligence and security personnel deployed around Resalat Square in Tehran, according to the report.

Iran claimed last month it had arrested an unidentified number of unnamed suspects in connection with the assassination, saying the scientist's killers had been "identified."

Sudden Lead Poisoning Kills Iranian Nuclear Scientist

Darioush Rezaie, 35, a university lecturer, was shot dead by gunmen in eastern Tehran Saturday. (Reuters)

Being an Iranian nuclear scientist is becoming a high hazard occupation.
(BBC News)- An Iranian scientist believed to have links to the country's nuclear programme has been shot dead outside his home in Tehran, Iranian media say.

Isna news agency named him as Daryoush Rezaei, 35, adding that his wife was wounded and rushed to hospital.
In 2010, nuclear scientist Massoud Ali Mohammadi was killed by a remote-controlled bomb in Tehran.
Iran blamed that attack on Israeli secret service Mossad. Israel has long warned about Iran's nuclear programme.

Some reports said the latest attack involved assailants on a motorcycle, who shot him in the neck in front of his house.

Scientists in Canada Muzzled on Global Warming and Other "Sensitive" Topics

When they are talking about global warming, glaciers melting and other "sensitive" subjects, the muzzle has been applied to Canadian scientists.

The Vancouver Sun reported:
“We have new media interview procedures that require pre-approval of certain types of interview requests by the minister’s office,” wrote Judy Samoil, NRCan’s western regional communications manager, in a March 24 email to colleagues.

The policy applies to “high-profile” issues such as “climate change, oilsands” and when “the reporter is with an international or national media organization (such as the CBC or the Canwest paper chain),” she wrote...

Environment Canada and Health Canada now tightly control media access to researchers and orchestrate interviews that are approved. Environment Canada has even produced “media lines” for federal scientists to stick to when discussing climate studies they have co-authored with Weaver and are based on research paid for through his university grants.

UN Climate Scientists Are Now Attacking Each Other

Popcorn anyone?

From Climate Depot:
A UN scientist is declaring that his three fellow UN climate panel colleagues "should be barred from the IPCC process." In a November 26, 2009 message on his website, UN IPCC contributing author Dr. Eduardo Zorita writes: "CRU files: Why I think that Michael Mann, Phil Jones and Stefan Rahmstorf should be barred from the IPCC process."

Zorita writes: "Short answer: Because the scientific assessments in which they may take part are not credible anymore."

Zorita indicates that he is aware that he is putting his career in jeopardy by going after the upper echelon of UN IPCC scientists...

Global Warming Scientists Are In A Global Meltdown

Over at RealClimate, they are in damage control mode over the leaked emails from the University of East Anglia's Hadley Climatic Research Centre. These emails are exchanges between many of the 'big guns' of the AGW scientific community. Some of the emails relate to the launching of the RealClimate site.

From RealClimate:
Instead, there is a peek into how scientists actually interact and the conflicts show that the community is a far cry from the monolith that is sometimes imagined. People working constructively to improve joint publications; scientists who are friendly and agree on many of the big picture issues, disagreeing at times about details and engaging in ‘robust’ discussions; Scientists expressing frustration at the misrepresentation of their work in politicized arenas and complaining when media reports get it wrong; Scientists resenting the time they have to take out of their research to deal with over-hyped nonsense. None of this should be shocking.

The anthropogenic global warming crowd is telling us these emails are representative of how scientists act and we shouldn't be shocked. Here is a summary of a few of the transgressions we shouldn't be shocked about:
Evading taxes. (0826209667)

Artificially truncating data sets. (0939154709)

Plotting to violate relevant FOIA laws. (1212063122)(1219239172)

Conspiring to hide data. (1254756944) (1059664704)

Artificially altering underlying data. (0942777075)(1254108338)

Suppressing criticism. (1139521913)(1054756929)

Cheering the death of a skeptic.(1075403821)

Plotting to destroy skeptics. (1047388489)(1256765544)

Plotting control of review boards to suppress skeptics. (1051190249) (1106322460)

Complete lack of outrage at fraud.(1188557698)

Letting politics lead science. (0938018124)

If this is a peek into how scientists actually interact, they should be tarred, feathered and rode out of town on a rail. The allegation that most scientists act in this manner is an insult to professional scientists around the world. By professional scientists, I do not mean Al Gore who recently discovered stellar fusion at the Earth's core.

There is a good analysis of the leaked emails by the attorneys over at Power Line.
