Twenty-four insurgents and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have
been killed in string of anti-militant offensives in southern Helmand
province, officials said.
Lt. Col. Muhammad Rasool Zazai, spokesman of the 215th Maiwand
military corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News that operation had been
launched in parts of Paich area close to Sangin district on Friday to
purge the restive locality of anti-state elements. […] Another militant commander died when his own explosive he was planting went-off prematurely, he informed. However, Taliban have not yet commented on the clashes.
Kabul:
Authorities in eastern Afghanistan say explosives transported by
suspected Taliban militants accidentally detonated while they were
stopped at a mosque, killing 12 people.
Local official Qasim Desewal on Saturday said that four civilians and
eight militants died in the blast during evening prayers the night
before in Ghazni province’s district of Andar.
He said that the Taliban had apparently stopped at the mosque while
traveling and the explosives they were carrying went off while they were
inside.
The Ghazni explosion was on the same day as Taliban fighters
supported by a suicide car bomb attacked a compound for international
aid workers in the capital.
Two suspected al Qaeda suicide bombers prematurely explode in Yemen.
(Al Jazeera) — Two suspected suicide bombers have died in an explosion outside an intelligence building in the southern Yemeni city of Aden, according to the country’s defence ministry.
The men killed in Friday’s blast in the al-Mansoura district were suspected of having links to al Qaeda, the defence ministry said on its website.
“Two suicide bombers belonging to the Al-Qaeda terrorist network were killed when their motorbike exploded… early on Friday in al-Mansoura,” it said, adding that the intended target of the attack was a branch of the political security services.
“The bomb-laden motorbike exploded with the two suicide bombers whose bodies were left in pieces before they managed to carry out their suicide attack that targetted a branch of the political security services in Mansura,” the website quoted a security official as saying.
(WNA)- In the southern province of Kandahar, the heartland of the Taliban insurgency now entering its 10th year, four rebels were killed when an IED they were planting on a road went off prematurely, local authorities said.
Environmentalists can't get a lucky break. An oil rig exploded and sunk in the Gulf of Mexico this week. Unfortunately, 11 workers are missing after the explosion. Initial reports feared as much as 336,000 gallons of crude oil a day could be leaking from the sea floor. As of Friday morning, the Coast Guard could not find any leaking oil.
