ELY, Nev. – An eastern Nevada wind farm could face a fine of up to $200,000 over the death of a golden eagle.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the bird's death at the Spring Valley Wind Farm near the Utah border, 350 miles east of Reno, spokesman Jeannie Stafford said.
San Francisco-based Pattern Energy, owner of the 152-megawatt wind energy project that sells power to Las Vegas-based NV Energy, turned over the dead eagle to federal authorities within 36 hours of its discovery in February.
Despite reporting the death, the wind farm could face a fine because it does not hold a federal "take" permit that would allow the incidental death of a golden or bald eagle... Keep on reading...

After eradicating the threat of terrorism, the DHS is moving on to the environment
The Department of Homeland Security has decided we are safe enough that they can now become the environmental police. This isn't a story from The Onion. I am not kidding. You can read this Environmental Justice strategy document at the DHS website (pdf). The section in bold below is directly from DHS.
Via New American:
The Department of Homeland Security has announced that it will be creating an “environmental justice” unit that will be overseeing environmental regulations, alongside local governments. The unit’s role of enforcing environmental regulations has prompted critics to refer to the new department as the “green police.”
The DHS defines environmental justice as “the commitment of the Federal Government … to avoid placing disproportionately high and adverse effects on the human health and environment of minority populations and low-income populations.”
The Department of Homeland Security indicates in its "Environmental Justice Strategy" document that the goal is to “include environmental justice practices in our larger mission efforts involving federal law enforcement and emergency response activities” in order to incorporate environmental justice and “secure the homeland.”
The "Environmental Justice Strategy" document leads off with this explanation:
Our Nation’s vision of homeland security is a homeland safe and secure, resilient against terrorism and other hazards, and where American interests and aspirations and the American way of life can thrive. In seeking to fulfill this vision, the Department of Homeland Security aspires to avoid burdening minority and low-income populations with a disproportionate share of any adverse human health or environmental risks associated with our efforts to secure the Nation.

Bachmann Takes “Radical Environmentalists” to the Woodshed
Rep. Michele Bachmann has a point. If you consider all sources, the U.S does have more energy reserves than Saudi Arabia. Some require technology improvements, but many have been locked away by overzealous environmental policies.
(The Blaze/AP) — Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann claimed Saturday that the United States has more fuel resources than any other country, but blamed what she termed “radical environmentalists” for bottling up American energy policy. . . .
“The United States is the number one country in the world for energy resources,” the Minnesota congresswoman told a central Florida town hall meeting, arguing that in shale deposits alone the U.S. easily outstrips the total oil supply of Saudi Arabia. “That doesn’t even include. . . all the oil in Alaska.”
But Bachmann said environmentalists were preventing resources from being exploited, leaving the U.S. dependent on energy imports....
“The radical environmentalists have demanded that we lock up all our energy resources,” she added. “President Bachmann will take that key out of the door. I will unlock it.”

AGW Hysteria: Global Warming May Cause Aliens to Kill Us or Something
You just can't make stuff this stupid up. The latest left-wing environmental claim is rising CO2 levels may cause us to be killed, if discovered by "green" aliens, because we are dangerous and out of control.
(The Guardian)- It may not rank as the most compelling reason to curb greenhouse gases, but reducing our emissions might just save humanity from a pre-emptive alien attack, scientists claim.
Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth's atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.
This highly speculative scenario is one of several described by a Nasa-affiliated scientist and colleagues at Pennsylvania State University that, while considered unlikely, they say could play out were humans and alien life to make contact at some point in the future...
"Green" aliens might object to the environmental damage humans have caused on Earth and wipe us out to save the planet. "These scenarios give us reason to limit our growth and reduce our impact on global ecosystems. It would be particularly important for us to limit our emissions of greenhouse gases, since atmospheric composition can be observed from other planets," the authors write. Keep on reading...

Environmentalists find new hero. It is Genghis Khan.
Environmentalists find new hero. It is Genghis Khan. He mass murdered so many people during his invasions, carbon emissions went down significantly.
Genghis Khan’s Mongol invasion in the 13th and 14th centuries was so vast that it may have been the first instance in history of a single culture causing man-made climate change, according to new research out of the Carnegie Institution’s Department of Global Ecology, reports Mongabay.com.
Unlike modern day climate change, however, the Mongol invasion actually cooled the planet, effectively scrubbing around 700 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere.
So how exactly did Genghis Khan, one of history’s cruelest conquerors, earn such a glowing environmental report card? The reality may be a bit difficult for today’s environmentalists to stomach, but Khan did it the same way he built his empire — with a high body count.
Over the course of the century and a half run of the Mongol Empire, about 22 percent of the world’s total land area had been conquered and an estimated 40 million people were slaughtered by the horse-driven, bow-wielding hordes. Depopulation over such a large swathe of land meant that countless numbers of cultivated fields eventually returned to forests.

Environmentalism Gone Wild
I firmly believe most Americans are environmentalists on some level. We all want clean air and clean water. We treasure our countries national parks and natural beauty. Most Americans want the government to take a common sense approach to protecting the environment. Unfortunately, our government is under the control of wacko environmentalists who have thrown common sense to the wind. EPA regulation of a naturally occurring gas like CO2 at a potential cost of trilli
ons of dollars is a prime example. In another example of environmentalism gone wild, an entire California farming valley was decimated when Federal water managers cut off their water to protect a finger long fish (pictured left). As you read this article, the economy of Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina is being decimated by beach closures in order to protect a bird. Here is the shocking video.

What? Lefty Environmentalist Doubts Global Warming? (video)
This video is surprising, but global warming skeptics need all the support they can get. If left-wing environmentalists want to help prevent spending trillions of dollars on a farce, more power to them. Perhaps we can take some of the money saved and address some real environmental problems. One thing is for sure, when the left starts doubting Al Gore, the scam is over.
