There is no pony hiding in the stimulus "pile of manure"

You can dig all you want, but there is no pony hiding under the Democrat's stimulus manure pile. They have shoved all kinds of pork in the package for their supporters. They are even trying to pay off Acorn for acting as their agent in the last election. According to the CBO, only $26 billion would be spent in this fiscal year. Most of the rest of the stimulus won't be spent until the economy has recovered on its own. Republicans should ready "the filibuster" and bury this stinking pile of manure. If Barack Obama wants to stimulate the economy, let him lower taxes.

An overoptimistic stimulus plan
By Jeff Jacoby
Globe Columnist / January 28, 2009

First of two columns
RONALD REAGAN loved to tell the story of the unfailingly cheerful little boy who wakes up on Christmas morning to find, instead of presents, an immense pile of manure. Undaunted, he grabs a shovel and starts digging. "With all this manure," he says excitedly, "there must be a pony in here someplace!"

Is there a pony somewhere in the $825 billion "stimulus" plan that Democrats in the House of Representatives plan to bring to a vote this week? The Congressional Budget Office started digging into this immense pile of, uh, deficit spending, and what it found would discourage even a Reagan-caliber optimist.

According to the CBO, less than half of the $355 billion the bill allocates to infrastructure and other "discretionary" projects would actually be spent by the end of 2010; of that, a mere $26 billion would be spent in the current fiscal year. "The rest would come in future years," the Washington Post reported, "long after the CBO and other economists predict the recession will have ended." Excerpted from boston.com

The House of Representatives is expected to vote on this spending spree today. Please contact your Representatives and urge them to vote against the stimulus.

Yes, by all means, let's do exactly as the Republican minority wants. We need more tax cuts for the wealthy! We need more deregulation of Wall Street! Their track record over the past eight years left us in such good shape. Is that why the American voters tossed the buggers out of office?

Democrats are responsible for Bang deregulation. Watch the video here and see it with your own eyes.

The problem with obstruction of the stimulus package is that all smart economists (i.e., those that predicted the housing bubble and the credit crisis) tell us that the only way to get the economy back on track is massive federal spending.

Even the Bush Administration believed this at the end, the only difference between the parties is that the Republicans claim to believe that giving billions of dollars to banks and big corporations with no strings attached will solve our problems - in spite of the fact that they have already been demonstrated to be failures.

The real reason Republicans don't want government spending on things that will really help ordinary citizens is that successful government programs to provide universal health care or permit labor to have the same rights as management will put the Republican Party in a permanent minority status. When government helps the people, Republicans lose. When government helps the rich, they have a chance of winning.

Amen! The stimupak needs to be rejected. Lower or eliminate taxes would do a much better job. Anytime the gov't intervenes, we always get into a bigger, longer mess (or as you say, "pile of manure").

BTW good site, I will add it to my blogroll and follow it regularly. Thanks for visiting!

Very good post. Here's hoping for a grassroots upraising since our representatives are not inclined to oppose the Powers that be!

If the Republicans play this smart... supporting a real economic stimulus while exposing this pork-laden monstrosity for what it is... they could turn the Stimulus into this Administraition's HillaryCare.

This will involve convincing people that there is not much stimulus in it, and a lot of Washington power-grabbing. The facts are on their side, but they'll have to be much smarter than they've been in recent memory to pull it off.

The "stimulus package" is one of the biggest scams to come down the pike.

Miracle of miracles! Yesterday, an Obama supporter told me, "This stimulus package won't do a thing to help my family."

Of course, the realization has come to late for her. She voted for BHO on November 4.

So long as your caught in the false left right paradigm, your never going to understand how the game is being played. Let's not forget the economic terrorism that both the left and right voted for. The two parties are there to give you an illusion of choice. We don't have a democracy, we have a cryptocracy.

"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the
most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." -Woodrow Wilson, 1916

"Very soon, every American will be required to register their biological property in a national system designed to keep track of the people and that will operate under the ancient system of pledging. By such methodology, we can compel people to submit to our agenda, which will effect our security as a chargeback for our fiat paper currency. Every American will be forced to register or suffer being unable to work and earn a living. They will be our chattel, and we will hold the security interest over them forever, by operation of the law merchant under the scheme of secured transactions. Americans, by unknowingly or unwittingly delivering the bills of lading to us will be rendered bankrupt and insolvent, forever to remain economic slaves through taxation, secured by their pledges. They will be stripped of their rights and given a commercial value designed to make us profit and they will be none the wiser, for not one man in a million could ever figure our plans and, if by accident one or two should figure it out, we have in our arsenal plausible deniability. After all, this is the only logical way to fund government, by floating liens and debt to the registrants in the form of benefits and privileges. This will inevitably reap to us huge profits beyond our wildest expectations and leave every American a contributer to this fraud which we will call "Social Insurance." Without realizing it, every American will insure us for any loss we may incur and in this manner, every American will unknowingly be our servant, however begrudgingly. The people will become helpless and without hope for their redemption and, we will employ the high office of the President of our dummy corporation to foment this plot against America." -"Colonel" Edward Mandell House (..To Woodrow Wilson)

"I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies ... If the American people ever allow the private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and the corporations that grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” -Thomas Jefferson

Obama is a traitor. The left are traitors. They have no care for the freedom and the liberty of our nation, our founders, our declaration of independence, and our Constitution.

We are two nations in one - and the left is so destroying our nation and is so instituting communism that the several states must secede for there to be a "free world" remaining.

This is no joke and reality. They have forced the situation. How evil and wicked to manipulatively use crisis - with no real care for the people - to force communism on us all.

This is not the USA our founders gave us. Traitors have overthrown our nation. If the leftists are that left, then let them live in a communist nation... we were born free in a different nation than this.

Democracy Lover- you are full of crap. Peter Schiff of Euro Pacific Capital among a select few CALLED the crisis in advance and was mocked and derided. He's said all along that the only thing to solve this mess is massive TAX CUTS!!!!

He's right. Celente is right. Obama is plunging us into a Great Depression... and you're full of manure.

Do you just make up all these lies?

Do you just think that lies are the way to go because you want people to believe lies and surrender to communism??

The truth won't help "build your case", will it?? So you sit there and lie.

How dare you. You're a traitor to the USA.

Actually, you were fooled. Congressional republicans took advantage of you b/c they knew you were too stupid to know otherwise. They knew that they could make up anything bad about the stimulus, and that you'd merely repeat it. That was a CBO report about a subset of the spending plan. In the CBOs full report, they show that roughly 2/3rds of the spending will come in the next 18 months, whereas most economists expect the economy to shed jobs for about 2 1/2 years. So virtually all of the stimulus money will be spent while the economy is still hurting.

Actually that information came form Boston.com and the Washington Post. The CBO did not analyze the full report, but found the spending would not be timely in the parts they didn't analyze. You are taking the 50% in 18 month number at face value from the Democratic leadership. They are terrible liars. Anyway, 18 months is not this year. The economy will be better on its own by then.

In 2004 Republicans controlled the House, the Senate and the White House. By what mechanism did the Democrats deregulate banks in 2004?

We have had an economic meltdown under Republican policies of tax cuts for the very wealthy and deregulation of banks (yes, part of this WAS Clinton's fault!). Conservatives had a shot since 2001 and American voters have seen enough.

Conservative philosophy lost the House, the Senate and the White House for the Republicans. They lost. They have little say in governance now. That is why you see nothing but whining Republicans on NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC and CNN these days. It's all they have left to do.

to Grace Explosion:

When will the great secession take place? Do you see any irony in that on the one hand you advocate the dissolution of these United States but on the other hand you label those who disagree with you traitors? LOL

I assume that SC, GA, MS, AL, AR, TN, KY, TX, LA, OK, UT, MT, WY, WV, AK, ND, SD etc will all want out. That is the old Confederacy + some mountain states, and represents the conservative and Republican minority, or what Gov Palin calls "real America". You will give up Wall Street, New York, Philly, Boston, Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Hollywood, Yale, Miami Beach, San Francisco, Golden Gate bridge, Grand Canyon, West Point, Annapolis, Air Force Academy, Pikes Peak, Seattle, San Diego, the Great Lakes, Chicago, Dartmouth, Cal Tech, MIT, the Cascades, Honolulu, Disneyland AND Disney World and probably 70% of the GNP.

To be honest, the Confederacy has been a drag on America these past couple centuries. By all means, all you rednecks secede from the Union. We'll make certain our African-American and Hispanic brothers move in with us, since you likely want them out anyway, right?

Best of luck to you. As a liberal Democrat all I can say is buh-bye!
