What You Need To Know:
Gov. Asa Hutchinson asked state legislators to recall a Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which the legislature sent to his desk earlier in the week, and amend it to reflect a more narrowly written federal law.
On Wednesday, Hutchinson said the Arkansas law should be more narrowly tailored to reflect a 1993 RFRA passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton.
Both legislative chambers passed a bill to those specifications, the Senate on Wednesday and the House on Thursday.
The governor signed the bill into law late Thursday afternoon.
This week, organizations and businesses, including Walmart, called on Hutchinson to veto the legislation, saying it would permit businesses to discriminate against LGBT people.

Obama may lose Arkansas primary to little known candidate. Democrats move to strip any delegates he wins.

After a poll released this week showed President Barack Obama only beating his Democratic primary opponent John Wolfe Jr. by seven points, 45 percent to 38 percent, in Arkansas's Fourth Congressional District, state Democrats moved to practically disenfranchise Arkansas voters. "[D]elegates Wolfe might claim won't be recognized at the national convention," national party officials are telling state Democrats. Wolfe is being accused of not following the party rules.

“They want a coronation,” Wolfe tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD. [...]

Wolfe insists he’s done the due diligence to qualify for delegates and that the state party is making decisions ad hoc to get the results they desire.  “This is ridiculous," he says. "These guys are trying to tamp down voter enthusiasm.”

Blanche Lincoln Still Politically Alive, But On Life Support

In a blow to unions and progressives, Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln survived yesterday's democratic primary and will face GOP Nominee John Boozman. Lincoln will need a miracle to defeat Boozman this November. The RCP polling average has Boozman up by 25 points in a head-to-head match-up against Lincoln.

Blanche Lincoln just beat Bill Halter in the Arkansas Democratic primary, according to the AP, also dealing a substantial blow to Washington’s conventional wisdom and to the labor unions who went all out to defeat her. The defeat is a real rebuke to a united progressive left, whose silver lining is having pushed Lincoln to the left on the financial reform bill.

The winner, aside from Lincoln: Bill Clinton, who stumped hard for her against what he portrayed as outside forces, and who seems to carry some real sway in his home state. . . .

The Arkansas jihadist Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad says he was justified in killing US soldier Private William Long in cold blood at the Arkansas recruiting station last week. He said it was Allah's will. Muhammad also said he looked for other jihadist attacks in the US.
