Navy Dad Dresses Up As Easter Bunny to Surprise Daughter

A little girl got the Easter surprise of a lifetime when her dad, deployed to Afghanistan, returned home.

Navy petty officer Steve Philipps says his daughter, Avery, gave him a heart before he left for Afghanistan, and he carried it with him the whole time. She has a “daddy doll” with his picture on it that she sleeps with every night.

The surprise homecoming had been planned for months. Friday, Philipps dressed up as the Easter bunny at the Ohio Valley Mall.

When Avery walked up to the bunny with her “daddy doll” and wish list in hand, the bunny showed her the heart. That’s when Avery realized it was her dad behind that bunny suit.

Christians across the nation are outraged after Google decided to honor labor leader Cesar Chavez’s birthday instead of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday — accusing the web giant of being anti-Christian.

The web search engine typically redesigns its logo to commemorate major holidays with a special “doodle.” The Easter Sunday “doodle” features an image of Chavez inside the Google graphic — instead of artwork honoring Easter.

“Let’s see Cesar Chavez rise from the grave,” one angry reader wrote.
President Obama proclaimed March 31st ‘Cesar Chavez Day.’

“I call upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate service, community, and educational programs to honor Cesar Chavez’s enduring legacy,” he declared in a statement last week.

For more than a century, the White House Easter Egg Roll has been insulated from the sort of partisan sniping that now dominates Washington politics.

That tradition ended Monday, when Republicans started complaining about a notice that the event could be canceled due to a potential government shutdown. The Obama administration has already come under GOP criticism for canceling White House tours due to the mandatory, across-the-board cuts known as sequestration.


The memo — which doesn’t actually say the White House is nixing the bunny fest, but just that it might do so at some point during the next couple of weeks — warns ticket-holders that the nation’s financial woes may affect the 135th Easter Egg role slated for April 1. (Note: this is not an April’s Fools Day joke.)

“Finally, by using these tickets, guests are acknowledging that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty surrounding the Executive Office of the President and other federal agencies,” it reads. “If cancelled, the event will not be re-scheduled.  We will notify you if there are any modifications to this event.”

If Obama doesn't get his money back, the bunny may get it...

The show Captain Planet was created in the early 1990′s by liberal media mogul Ted Turner and environmental activist Barbara Pyle to encourage kids to care about the earth.

Captain Planet teamed up with the “Planeteers” after Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, bestowed on them the power of the elements to defend her from harm.
