Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman is retiring?
Lieberman is more moderate than most Democrats in politics. That's why he had to abandon the party and run as an Independent. There isn't much room in the middle anymore and Lieberman doesn't have much support on either the left or right.
(Politico) — Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman — deeply unpopular with voters in his home state — is unlikely to seek reelection, a knowledgeable source tells POLITICO ahead of the senator’s announcement on Wednesday.
The four-term senator’s decision comes after months of speculation on the political future of the independent Democrat.

Sen. Joe Lieberman Thinks He Could Run as a New England Moderate Republican (video)
Sen. Joe Lieberman: I Could Run As A New England Moderate...

Based on his vote for Obamacare, I am skeptical he could win as a Republican. What do you think?

The People of Minnesota Should be Ashamed of Al Franken
Al Franken is your Senator. Many of you voted against him and the election was close enough it could be stolen. But nevertheless, Al Franken is your Senator and he is a joke. Yesterday, Al Franken was disrespectful to Senator Lieberman.
This must be part of the new atmosphere Obama promised to bring to Washington.
About a half hour ago, Sen. Joe Lieberman was making remarks on Medicare on the Senate floor when his allotted time expired. As is standard practice in the Senate, Lieberman asked the chair for a few minutes of additional time to conclude, “without objection.”
But the presiding officer, one Sen. Al Franken, said no. “In my capacity as Senator from Minnesota, I object.”
Lieberman laughed. “Really? Okay, I don't take it personally.”
This must be part of the new atmosphere Obama promised to bring to Washington.

Keith Olbermann Says Joe Lieberman Should Kill Himself! (audio)
If you want to hear the Olbermann comment, start at about the 6:00 mark, but the whole video/audio is very amusing. The nastiness of the left, when people oppose their socialist agenda, never ceases to amaze me.

Both Lieberman and Nelson Say They'll Vote No On Harry Reid's Current Health Care Bill

It looks like the Medicare "buy-in" option for those aged 55-64 isn't working for two key Senators. Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) both said they would vote no on the bill.
The Hill reported:
"I'm concerned that it's the forerunner of single payer, the ultimate single-payer plan, maybe even more directly than the public option," Nelson said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

Joe Lieberman says no to public option

Independent Senator Joe Lieberman said today he will back a GOP filibuster of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s health care reform bill unless the public option is removed. No Republican Senator is expected to vote for Reid’s health care reform bill. This leaves Majority Leader Reid short of the 60 votes he needs for cloture. Although Lieberman may vote for cloture to allow the Senate bill to be debated, he is saying he will not vote for cloture when it comes to voting the bill out of the Senate.

Sen. Joe Lieberman Refuses to Back "government-run" Health Care Plan

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is refusing to support a "government-run" Health care. Lieberman and a couple of centrist Democrats lack of support offs hope "Obamacare" will be stopped in the Senate. The Hill's Briefing Room reported:
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said this weekend that he opposes a public option plan for consumers in a healthcare reform plan to emerge from the Senate.
"I don't favor a public option," Lieberman told Bloomberg News in an interview broadcast this weekend. And I don't favor a public option because I think there's plenty of competition in the private insurance market."
Lieberman's decision joins several other centrist Democrats' decision to have publicly refused to back the plan, derided as a "government-run" plan by Republicans.
Centrist Democrats like Sens. Mary Landrieu (La.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.) have also been skittish to back the public option, which is favored by liberal Democrats and the Obama administration. If Republicans are able to pick off enough Democrats, they may be able to muster enough votes to filibuster any legislation that includes the public option.
