Confirmed: Hillary Clinton opposes Keystone XL Pipeline...

Time for unions to look elsewhere...
Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that she opposes construction of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, an announcement that ends years of declining to weigh in on the controversial project that environmentalists are battling hard to defeat.
Clinton’s comments came just as most of Washington’s attention was turned to the arrival of Pope Francis in D.C. According to a copy of her remarks provided by the presidential campaign, Clinton said, “I think it is imperative that we look at the Keystone Pipeline as what I believe it is—a distraction from the important work we have to do to combat climate change, and unfortunately, from my perspective, one that interferes with our ability to move forward to deal with all the other issues. Therefore, I oppose it.”

Video: Reporters Laugh as WH Tries to Explain Why Keystone Review has Taken Over 2,300 Days

Josh Earnest is an assclown.

Obama vetoes jobs bill...

The Keystone XL Pipeline will create jobs for Americans and goodwill with our neighbors the Canadians. Apparently, Obama prefers to keep on buying oil from his Arab buddies. The claim this bill would "circumvent" the existing process for reviewing the pipeline is ridiculous. The Keystone XL extension was proposed in 2008. That was seven years ago. How long do you need to study something? The answer is apparently, forever if you oppose it politically.
President Obama on Tuesday followed through on his vow to veto bipartisan-backed legislation authorizing the Keystone XL pipeline, marking his first veto of the Republican-led Congress and only the third of his presidency.
The president, in a brief statement, claimed the bill would "circumvent" the existing process for reviewing the pipeline, which would extend from Canada to Texas.
"The Presidential power to veto legislation is one I take seriously," Obama said. "But I also take seriously my responsibility to the American people. And because this act of Congress conflicts with established executive branch procedures and cuts short thorough consideration of issues that could bear on our national interest -- including our security, safety, and environment -- it has earned my veto."

Keystone XL oil pipeline bill headed for Obama's desk

Obama has claimed he will veto it. There is no justification for vetoing a jobs bill with significant bipartisan support, but the liberal base hates anything that has to do with oil.

Via WAPO
The House passed a bill to approve construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline Wednesday, setting the stage for the first veto showdown of the new Congress with President Obama.
On a 270-152 vote that fell mostly along party lines, the House approved the bill, which has already cleared the Senate. The measure will now head to Obama’s desk. The president has vowed to veto the measure.
Only one Republican, Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.), voted against the bill. Amash, a libertarian-leaning member, frequently clashes with GOP leadership.
Twenty-nine Democrats crossed over to vote for the pipeline.[…]
The Senate passed the bill by a 62-36 margin.

Barbara Boxer on Keystone XL Pipeline: Shows Chinese in masks

This has to be the stupidest argument against the pipeline I have ever heard. They will sell the oil somewhere. I have heard most of it is already traversing America by rail. Sen. Mary Landrieu's Hail Mary has failed.

Desperate Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) Has Gone Rogue on Democrats...

Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu is locked in a runoff election that she has little chance of winning. She has abandoned Democrats in an attempt to save her job. Landrieu gave a three hour floor speech in support of the Keystone XL Pipeline and has finally gotten a commitment for a vote this year from Harry Reid. Afterwards, she blew off Chuck Schumer and wouldn't even speak to him. If she had done these things a years ago, she wouldn't be in the runoff. I doubt Louisiana voters will be impressed by her sudden change.
Via WaPo:
Landrieu had other ideas.
“I don’t think we necessarily need to wait until January,” she said Wednesday in a floor speech that lasted almost three hours. Landrieu made no attempt to hide her motive. “I’m going to do everything in my power here and at home on the campaign trail, where I’m still in a runoff, as you know, to get this project moving forward,” she said.
And later, she secured an agreement from Democratic and Republican leaders to hold a vote authorizing the pipeline as early as next Tuesday. House Republican leaders also announced plans to hold a vote as early as Thursday to authorize the pipeline, the ninth time the GOP-controlled House has voted to approve the pipeline in the past six years.
Before her remarks, Landrieu was spotted riding the escalator alone up from the Senate trains that carry lawmakers between their offices and the Capitol, toward a row of elevators. She was stone-faced and declined to answer questions from reporters. Once she reached the top level and stepped off, Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), one of his party’s top campaign strategists, walked over.
Smiling, he asked Landrieu to step aside for a private conversation. She shook her head and moved briskly toward the elevator. As she did, she pointed to her phone, saying she had a call. Schumer paused for a moment as she moved away. His smile dropped, and he turned to follow her. “Mary, Mary,” he said, a few steps behind, asking her to speak with him. When she kept moving and ducked into an elevator, he hustled and jumped in to join her as the doors closed.

Amusing: New study claims Keystone XL pipeline will increase CO2 by lowering oil price $3 a barrel...

This just makes me want to build it more...

The much-debated Keystone XL pipeline could produce four times more global warming pollution than the State Department calculated earlier this year, a new study concludes.
.
The U.S. estimates didn't take into account that the added oil from the pipeline would drop prices by about $3 a barrel, spurring consumption that would create more pollution, the researchers said.
.
Outside experts not connected to the study gave it mixed reviews. The American Petroleum Institute found the study to be irrelevant because regardless of the pipeline, the tar sands will be developed and oil will be shipped by railroad if not by pipeline, spokeswoman Sabrina Fang said.

Change: Canada to build pacific pipeline to send oil Obama doesn't want to China...

Currently,  97% of Canadian export oil is sent to the U.S. That is going to change since Obama won't approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. A significant portion of that oil will now go to China. We can buiy our oil from the Arabs. that has worked out so well for us.
TORONTO (AP) - Canada's government on Tuesday approved a controversial proposed pipeline to the Pacific Coast that would allow oil to be shipped to Asia, which would be major step in the country's efforts to diversify its oil exports.
The approval Tuesday was expected but whether Enbridge's Northern Gateway pipeline ever gets built remains in question as there is fierce aboriginal and environmental opposition in British Columbia and court challenges are expected.
Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper has called Canada an emerging energy superpower and he has been a staunch supporter of the pipeline after the U.S. delayed a decision on TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline that would take oil from Alberta to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Enbridge's pipeline would transport 525,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta's oil sands to the Pacific to deliver oil to Asia, mainly energy-hungry China. About 220 large oil tankers a year would visit the Pacific coast town of Kitimat and opponents fear pipeline leaks and a potential Exxon Valdez-like disaster on the pristine Pacific coast...
Harper has said Canada's national interest makes the pipelines essential and it is a legacy issue for him. He was "profoundly disappointed" that U.S. President Barack Obama delayed a decision on the Texas Keystone XL option, and spoke of the need to diversify Canada's oil industry. Ninety-seven percent of Canadian oil exports now go to the U.S.

Keystone XL Pipeline Protesters out themselves as clueless morons...

Low information voters...
Via IJR:
In celebration of Earth Day, protesters against the Keystone Pipeline Project hooked up with Native Americans on the National Mall.
Obviously, both groups were neither aware – nor cared – that a billionaire hedge fund manager had bought off Barack Obama to the tune of $100 million in order to delay the pipeline decision yet again

Rasmussen: 61% of Likely U.S. Voters now at least somewhat favor building Keystone XL Pipeline...

Most democrats are on the wrong side of this one.
Via Rasmussen:
Support for building the Keystone XL pipeline is now at its highest level ever.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% of Likely U.S. Voters now at least somewhat favor building the major oil pipeline from Canada to Texas, while just 27% are opposed. This includes 37% who Strongly Favor the project and 10% who Strongly Oppose it. Thirteen percent (13%) are undecided.

Punt: Keystone XL pipeline decision likely delayed until after 2014 elections...

The State department needs more time. Apparently, five years wasn't enough.
WASHINGTON — The Canadian government demanded an answer immediately on the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline. It has now received a reply from the United States government that amounts to: Maybe next year.
The project is now paralyzed for an indefinite period, with the U.S. administration Friday announcing another delay in a process already beset by political and legal challenges.
The announcement made it clear that Canadian pipeline backers will not get the answer they wanted in time for the summer construction season, pushing completion of the project until 2015 — at best.
The State Department said it needs more time to prepare its recommendation to the president because the pipeline route is mired in uncertainty. A legal dispute is underway in Nebraska over the route and it is unlikely to be resolved before next year.

Poll: 65% want to build the Keystone XL oil pipeline

It's a no-brainer for people with a functioning brain.

Via Politico:
Nearly two-thirds of Americans back the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, according to a new poll.
Sixty-five percent of Americans say Keystone should be approved and 22 percent are opposed, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Canada tells Obama administration to stop delaying and make Keystone XL pipeline decision...

Canada tell Obama to sh*t or get off the pot on Keystone XL pipeline decision...

Via Reuters
Canada bluntly told the United States on Thursday to settle the fate of TransCanada Corp’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline, saying the drawn-out process on whether to approve the northern leg of the project was taking too long.
The hard-line comments by Foreign Minister John Baird were the clearest sign yet that Canada’s Conservative government has lost patience over what it sees as U.S. foot-dragging.
Baird also conceded that Washington might veto the project, the first admission of its kind by a Canadian government minister.
The 1,200-mile (1,930-km) pipeline would carry 830,000 barrels a day from the Alberta tar sands in western Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Ottawa strongly backs Keystone XL, which it says would create jobs and provide a secure supply of oil to Canada’s closest ally and trading partner.
“The time for Keystone is now. I’ll go further – the time for a decision on Keystone is now, even if it’s not the right one. We can’t continue in this state of limbo,” Baird said in a speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Obama administration will push Keystone XL Pipeline deciaion until after the 2014 midterms?

Wouldn't surprise me...

Via National Journal:
The State Department’s Office of Inspector General announced Friday it does not expect to release the results of an investigation into a possible conflict of interest in the department’s Keystone XL pipeline review until January—a move that could delay a final decision on the project until next year.
Earlier this month, the OIG began an inquiry into allegations made by the Sierra Club and other environmental groups that Environmental Resources Management, a consulting firm hired to produce the draft environmental impact statement for the pipeline, had ties to TransCanada Corp. and the American Petroleum Institute, two organizations with a key stake in the project. …
The conflict-of-interest inquiry and the State Department’s review of the pipeline have been ongoing, and State has not yet said when it will make a final determination on Keystone XL. But Friday’s announcement that the OIG investigation results won’t be released until January makes it likely that a decision on the project will be pushed back to 2014.

Pew Research: 66% favor Keystone XL Pipeline

The other 34% must not own cars or trucks...

Via Pew Research:
As the Obama administration approaches a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline, a national survey finds broad public support for the project. Two-thirds of Americans (66%) favor building the pipeline, which would transport oil from Canada’s oil sands region through the Midwest to refineries in Texas. Just 23% oppose construction of the pipeline.
Support for the pipeline spans most demographic and partisan groups. Substantial majorities of Republicans (82%) and independents (70%) favor building the Keystone XL pipeline, as do 54% of Democrats. But there is a division among Democrats: 60% of the party’s conservatives and moderates support building the pipeline, compared with just 42% of liberal Democrats.
