Amusing: DNC adds God, Jerusalem back to platform; delegates boo...

It took three voice votes for the chair to declare the amendments passed. In all honesty, the "nos" had it. Hopefully, we will see this in a GOP ad soon.

(CNN) - Democrats voted to update their party's platform Wednesday evening at their convention to include a reference to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, as well as the insertion of the word "God," neither of which was included in their platform this year but was in previous platforms. The change, proposed by Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland immediately after the convention was gaveled into order on Wednesday, required a two-thirds voice vote, but was declared as adopted after three voice votes which brought delegates to their feet, shouting their yeas and nays. Democratic sources told CNN prior to the vote that it was to take place by acclamation.

DNC 2012 Platform doesn't mention raising taxes on those making over $250,000

Democrats promise to not raise taxes on families making under $250,000, but there is no pledge to raise taxes on anyone.  Here are the results of a query for the word "raise" in the DNC Platform.

We've already made historic progress. States have more flexibility to raise standards...
they'll raise taxes on the middle class and gut our investments in education
we have helped states and territories develop comprehensive plans to raise standards
To that end, the President challenged and encouraged states to raise their standards
we are committed to extending the middle class tax cuts for the 98 percent of American families who make less than $250,000 a year, and we will not raise taxes on them.
President Obama signed into law changes to help entrepreneurs raise capital
We will raise the minimum wage
The President signed into law changes to help President looked out for small businesses entrepreneurs raise capital
grants to states to raise standards
we must raise the minimum wage
Mitt Romney would raise taxes on low- and middle-income Americans
The administration will not put aside our differences but will raise them directly with the Russian government.
American diplomats must raise the issue wherever harassment or abuse arises
A query for the word "increase' also fails to yield a pledge to raise any taxes. Of course Obamacare contains many taxes which have not all taken effect yet. The promise to not raise taxes on families making less than $250,000 has already been broken by Democrats. The only mention of raising taxes in the DNC Platform is the false claim Mitt Romney will raise taxes on the middle class to fund tax cuts for the rich. President Obama must be heartbroken at the DNC Platform not mentioning his signature tax plan of sticking it to small business owners who make $250,000 or more. Of course, Obama couldn't get that tax plan through Congress when Democrats held an overwhelming majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. We all know Democrats want to raise taxes. They are just to chicken to put it in the Platform.

New DNC Platform: God and Jerusalem go under the bus

God is not mentioned in the New DNC platform. They also dropped a statement naming Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel.

CHARLOTTE - For Democrats, there is no God in 2012 - at least as far as the party's platform is concerned.
Nor is there a Jerusalem
Democrats removed those two words, and the passages surrounding them, from the 2012 party platform as it was released this week.
In Charlotte on Monday, the Democratic National Committee released its 2012 party platform after the DNC Platform Committee approved it under the leadership of Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker. The Platform Drafting Committee, led by Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, gathered feedback for an initial draft in Minneapolis over the summer.
Gone are three sentences identifying Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, now and forever. There is no mention of Jerusalem in the 2012 document, after the 2008 version included this mention: Keep on reading...

Heroes: GOP platform calls for repeal of 16th amendment and federal income taxes! Sort of...

WaPo called this article The 10 oddest items in the GOP platform. They don't seem so odd to me. You decide.
1) Repeal the Sixteenth Amendment! Maybe… “In any restructuring of federal taxation, to guard against hypertaxation of the American people, any value added tax or national sales tax must be tied to the simultaneous repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment, which established the federal income tax.”

2) Police the universities for liberal bias. “Ideological bias is deeply entrenched within the current university system. Whatever the solution in private institutions may be, in State institutions the trustees have a responsibility to the public to ensure that their enormous investment is not abused for political indoctrination. We call on State officials to ensure that our public colleges and universities be places of learning and the exchange of ideas, not zones of intellectual intolerance favoring the Left.”

3) Defend the Electoral College at all costs. “We oppose the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact or any other scheme to abolish or distort the procedures of the Electoral College.” (See here for an explanation of the National Popular Vote compact.) Keep on reading...
