War on Coal: Obama bans new coal mining on public land...

It some areas, coal mining was the only good job.

Via Washington Times:
The Obama administration announced a moratorium on new coal development on public land Friday while it studies the impact of the U.S. leasing program on climate change, prompting fresh criticism that President Obama is ramping up his “war on coal.”
Interior Secretary Sally Jewell announced the initiative.
“Given serious concerns raised about the federal coal program, we’re taking the prudent step to hit pause on approving significant new leases,” said Ms. Jewell, who added that existing coal leases would continue to provide for the country’s electricity needs.
“We haven’t undertaken a comprehensive review of the program in more than 30 years,” she said, “and we have an obligation to current and future generations to ensure the federal coal program delivers a fair return to American taxpayers and takes into account its impacts on climate change.”
It’s the latest step by Mr. Obama to combat climate change and follows a pledge he made in Tuesday’s State of the Union address “to change the way we manage our oil and coal resources, so that they better reflect the costs they impose on taxpayers and our planet.”
Speaker Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said the impact of the move “will be terrible: lost growth, lost jobs, and lost revenue that would have gone to schools, bridges, and roads.” Keep on reading…

Obama's War On Coal Update: There Are No Union Mines Left In KY Anymore...

How is that "votin' Democrat" working out for you UMW workers?
Kentucky coal miners bled and died to unionize.
Their workplaces became war zones, and gun battles once punctuated union protests. In past decades, organizers have been beaten, stabbed and shot while seeking better pay and safer conditions deep underground.
But more recently the United Mine Workers in Kentucky have been in retreat, dwindling like the black seams of coal in the Appalachian mountains.
And now the last union mine in Kentucky has been shut down.[...]
The union era's death knell sounded in Kentucky on New Year's Eve, when Patriot Coal announced the closing of its Highland Mine. The underground mine in western Kentucky employed about 400 hourly workers represented by the United Mine Workers of America.

Flashback Video: Ashley Judd compares coal mining to rape...

This would be enough to dash any male GOP candidate's hopes...

"In '88 by a margin of 4 to 1, Kentucky had spoke at the ballot box. They voted in favor of the homestead amendment which restricted strip mining by the minerals rights owner- they- which restricted strip mining by the minerals rights owner without the consent of the land owner.Five years later, the ruling was appealed." "I used the word 'rape' earlier. When I was a student at the University of Kentucky in 1988 I remember clearly sitting in the Kappa house kitchen drinking my morning cup of coffee and discovering that spousal rape was still legal in my state. "Oh my Gosh", I thought. If I were married it would be legal for my husband to rape me. I felt horrible shame. Kentucky's gender laws have come far since that time. In fact, Governor brashear just signed a progressive policy requiring that men who beat women and against whom an order of protection has been taken out, must be monitored with GPS . I salute Gov. Brashear and the legislature for passing and enacting this law. Kentucky's environmental laws monitoring evaluation and enforcement need to move apace."

Ohio coal miners tell Obama to stop lying...

Ohio coal miners are angry about Obama's war on coal.  They are asking Obama to quit lying. Unfortunately, Obama's mouth would have to be sewn shut for that to happen.
Coal miners at the American Energy Corp. Century Mine said they want President Barack Obama to stop what they term the war on coal – and to stop spreading mistruths about them.
Miners gathered Friday afternoon to express their opposition to Obamas energy and environmental policies, which they believe threaten their jobs. Miner Mitch Miracle read aloud a letter the miners mailed to Obama that outlines some of their concerns.
