Most transparent administration ever sets new record for FOIA non-compliance

Heh...

Via AP:
For the second consecutive year, the Obama administration more often than ever censored government files or outright denied access to them under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, according to a new analysis of federal data by The Associated Press. …
The government’s new figures, published Tuesday, covered all requests to 100 federal agencies during fiscal 2014 under the Freedom of Information law, which is heralded globally as a model for transparent government. They showed that despite disappointments and failed promises by the White House to make meaningful improvements in the way it releases records, the law was more popular than ever. Citizens, journalists, businesses and others made a record 714,231 requests for information. The U.S. spent a record $434 million trying to keep up.
The government responded to 647,142 requests, a 4 percent decrease over the previous year. The government more than ever censored materials it turned over or fully denied access to them, in 250,581 cases or 39 percent of all requests. Sometimes, the government censored only a few words or an employee’s phone number, but other times it completely marked out nearly every paragraph on pages.

NASA Accused Of Cooking Their Climate Change Data

A scholar global of warming skeptical has been trying to get climate change data from NASA for 2 years under a FOIA request. NASA has been refusing to cooperate with his request. The same FOIA foot-dragging occurred in Great Britain at the University of East Anglia's Hadley Climatic Research Centre. After the leaked Climategate emails, we know they were deliberately obstructing the FIOA requests because their data was cooked. NASA may be guilty of the same.

FOX News reported:
A U.S. scholar is threatening to sue NASA to compel the release of climate change data, saying he suspects the agency has manipulated research just like a university research center in Britain is accused of doing.

The Washington Times reported Thursday that Christopher Horner, a fellow with the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has given NASA until the end of the year to grant his two-year-old Freedom of Information Act request for research detailing NASA's climate data and explaining why the agency has altered its own figures.

There is nothing to see here. Please move along.

The FBI has the worst record on Freedom of Information Act requests. They fail to deliver two out of three requests. We are never going to find out who shot JFK or where the UFO's are really from unless the FBI improves. I bet they won't release any information about Obama's birth certificate either. Anyone interested in taking that wager?

WASHINGTON -- A private study said the FBI tells two out of every three Freedom of Information Act requesters that it can't find the records they requested.

The study by the National Security Archive, a private group that publishes declassified government documents, said that failure rate is five times higher than other major federal agencies.

The Archive awarded the FBI its Rosemary Award for the worst Freedom of Information Act performance by a federal agency.

The award is named for former President Richard M. Nixon's secretary Rose Mary Woods who's known for claiming to have accidentally erased 18 1/2 minutes of a White House tape recording during the Watergate era.(excerpt) read more at wbaltv.com
