PC Alert: Seattle school has banned Halloween costumes

How did we let this country get in this sad state of affairs?

SEATTLE (CBS SEATTLE) – A Seattle school has banned students from celebrating a new holiday this year: Halloween.

Lafayette Elementary School has decided to not allow students to dress up in costume for Halloween this year. And there is still some discrepancy between parents and the administration as to why the ban has been implemented this fall.

The decision was first reported by the district (Seattle Public Schools) as being a preventative measure in the event that Halloween costumes could offend and upset students who come from other cultures. Dozens of parents complained to the school over the measure demanding a detailed explanation.

Lafayette’s principal, Shauna Heath, e-mailed media outlets, including The West Seattle Blog, arguing the decision was made because of the limited instructional time that falls on Halloween this year. Seattle Public Schools observe a half-day of instruction on Wednesday, October 31.

NJ small business owner Halloween window display depicts President Obama as a witch doctor

 Skuby & Co. Lifestyle Clothing in Spring Lake is selling items with the acronym FYBO.

SPRING LAKE, N.J. (WABC) -- A business owner in Spring Lake, New Jersey has put up a window display for Halloween which depicts President Barack Obama as a witch doctor. 

The display in a window of Skuby & Co. Lifestyle Clothing in Spring Lake includes an image of the president's head superimposed on the body of a witch doctor above the word "ObamaCare."

There's a tombstone featuring a picture of the president with a stethoscope and the inscription, "I Told You I Was Sick." A mannequin also wears a hat with a derogatory Obama acronym.

Halloween political correctness gone too far

Children in two Calgary schools have been ordered to turn in their scary costumes for more caring and community friendly outfits.

CALGARY — Children wanting to wear scary, violent or blood-drenched costumes will have to trade them in for more caring and community friendly outfits at two public elementary schools this Halloween.

The principal of Colonel Walker and Ramsay schools said her staff has chosen to use the day normally known for scares and frights as an opportunity to teach community values.

But some parents say it’s political correctness gone too far.

“I don’t want to bash the school but I do think it’s a little bit silly,” said Julie Van Rosendaal, who’s six-year-old son attends Ramsay school in Grade 1.

“I think everyone’s wondering what the parameters of a caring costume are.”

The Weiner costume is a big seller for Halloween at Ricky’s NYC, purveyor of all things for the spooky season.

Dubbed the “Anthony,” the costume consists of a mask contorted into a shocked grimace ($24.99), and a white tank top with a pair of baby blue boxer shorts from which a plastic pair of you-know-whats hangs out ($19.99).

“The thinking behind that was the guy had [a lot of chutzpah],” said Dominick Costello, president of Ricky’s NYC, using a common anatomical reference.
