DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Steven Rebenstorf has numerous flags flying atop his canopy tent inside Daytona International Speedway.
The Confederate flag is front and center.
It's been like that for years. And the 57-year-old Rebenstorf has no plans to take it down — not even if NASCAR decides to ban the embattled flag from its racetracks.
"They'd have to come and get it," Rebenstorf said Saturday, pointing out that his American flag purposely flies a few inches higher than the rest.
Rebenstorf and others staunchly defended their Confederate flags at NASCAR's first race in the South since the racing series and its tracks urged fans to no longer wave the banner. Dozens were scattered throughout the vast infield all weekend leading to Sunday's race.

Defiance: NASCAR fans fly Confederate flag...
NASCAR is really stepping in it by injecting political correctness into racing. They risk angering their fan base. In addition to the Confederate flag controversy, NASCAR has severed relations with Donald Trump over his illegal immigration comments.

Confederate Flag Supporters Lose NASCAR...
Game over...
Via FOX Sports:
Via FOX Sports:
With the nation debating the legacy of the Confederate flag, NASCAR fan-favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. offered his thoughts Friday, saying "it belongs in the history books."
"I think it's offensive to an entire race," Earnhardt said during his media availability at Sonoma Raceway. "It belongs in the history books and that's about it."
Earlier this week, NASCAR issued a statement reaffirming its position against using the Confederate flag in any official capacity.

"Democratic convention offers NASCAR sponsorship"...Yeah, that will work.
The betting on if they can find a driver willing to pilot a liberal car starts now. I suspect that decision would be a career ending choice.

For only $5, now you, too, can have your name painted on a NASCAR stock car.
The Charlotte 2012 convention committee has launched a "Powered by the American People" campaign that promises contributors of any amount that their names will be listed as sponsors on the Democratic National Convention racing car.
An email blast with the pitch, signed by reknowned NASCAR promoter H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, went out Thursday and the promotion leads the convention's web site.
Charlotte is the home of the NASCAR hall of fame, so it's a natural fit. Of course, the racing league also has been the subject of fodder used against Mitt Romney in the presidential campaign.
Here is part of Wheeler's pitch.
[...]I’m proud that my home state was chosen to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention and excited to share some of the southern hospitality that we are known for in the Carolinas. I’m even more proud that the Convention will kick off with a free, family-friendly Labor Day celebration at the place I spent the majority of my career at – the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
I want you to be part of our racing family. If you give $5 – or whatever you can right now – you will be listed as a sponsor on the Convention’s official stock car.[...]

Is Mitt Romney Intentionally trying To Throw This Race?
Mitt Romney at Daytona 500 NASCAR race Sunday:
"...I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners."Somebody sell Mittens a vowel.
Via CBS News:
Mitt Romney went to the Daytona 500 NASCAR race Sunday for what should have been a chance to show he's one of the guys. Instead, in casual conversation with an Associated Press reporter at the Florida track, he reminded people once again that he is not exactly a regular Joe.
Asked by the AP reporter if he follows NASCAR, Romney responded, "Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans. But I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners."
Democrats and liberals quickly ridiculed the remark on Twitter. "I don't know people who fish but I know people who own yachts," tweeted Brad Woodhouse, communications director of the Democratic National Committee. Ari Melber, a writer for the liberal Nation magazine who apparently was watching the Oscars, tweeted: "Do I like movies? Well I have some friends who own movie companies."

Video: NASCAR Crowd Boos Michelle Obama
NASCAR fans tend to be hard working middle-class taxpayers. This isn't a demographic that is part of Barack Obama's constituency.

5 NASCAR Drivers Too Busy To Meet With Obama At White House
NASCAR
(SB Nation) — President Barack Obama will honor NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and the 11 other Chase drivers from last year in a White House ceremony on Wednesday – but nearly half of the 2010 playoff contenders won’t be there. Here are the NASCAR drivers who are looking forward to meeting Obama: Jimmy Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth will attend. Send them a message.
NASCAR said Thursday that five drivers – Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart – will not be attending the White House visit due to “schedule conflicts.”
They must be very busy people. Regardless of one’s political views, the president is still the president – and an opportunity to speak with the leader of the free world is a rare and special one.
You’d think whatever photo shoots or sponsor appearances these drivers have lined up on Wednesday afternoon – if that’s indeed the reason – could be rescheduled. After all, this is the President of the United States we’re talking about here.

It has come to this
Patrick Carpentier's crew member attacks NASCAR driver Steve Wallace and pulls his hair over an on-track incident.

Via The Blaze:
Steve Wallace has racing in his blood. He’s the son of legendary NASCAR driver Rusty. And like his dad, he’s taken up the business of turning left for a living. But his pedigree couldn’t save him from getting into a hair-pulling scuffle after Saturday night’s Nationwide series race.
Wallace, who finished fourth during the event in Montreal, bumped fellow driver Patrick Carpentier, sending him crashing and out of the race. It was expected to be the final career race for the Canadian, but that ended with the Wallace-involved incident while Wallace was challenging near the front with nine laps to go.
So at the end of the race, one of Carpentier’s crew members decided to let Wallace know how he felt. While Wallace’s car was still moving, the rival crew member reached into the car and began yanking on Wallace’s hair:
