Fail: Hasbro makes unusual Play-Doh toy

You don't have to be Captain Obvious to know why this was a bad idea.

Via KIRO TV
She was accused by her fiance’s mother of letting her 5-year-old granddaughter play with a sex toy. A mortified Carbrera asked the child where she got the penis-shaped plastic cylinder.
“It’s from my Play-Doh,” the girl replied.
Hasbro, the Pawtucket-based toy company, is now doing damage control over the extruder tool in its Play-Doh Cake Mountain toy. The two-piece syringe-like tool, which includes a tube with corkscrew-type ridges around the outside and a dome-shaped top with a hole at the tip, can be used to squeeze Play-Doh to look like decorative cake frosting.
Complaints have been surfacing since at least November, when Tulsa, Oklahoma, TV station KTUL showed the tool to parents and asked them what they thought. The station blurred the image of the tool during the piece, saying it was due to parents’ reactions. One woman told the station it was “a pretty phallic cake-decorating piece.”[…]

Fail: So-called moderate Syrian rebels sign non-aggression pact with ISIS

Obama is putting together the fail coalition.

Via Global Research:
Well, Well, Well, what do we have here?
According to a new report by Agence-France Presse (AFP) “Syrian rebels and jihadists from the Islamic State have agreed a non-aggression pact for the first time in a suburb of the capital Damascus, a monitoring group said on Friday.”
What will the Obama administration do now? Originally President Obama said in a televised speech that he will support “military assistance to the Syrian opposition.”  Here is what he said:
Across the border, in Syria, we have ramped up our military assistance to the Syrian opposition. Tonight, I again call on Congress to give us additional authorities and resources to train and equip these fighters. In the fight against ISIL, we cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its people; a regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost. Instead, we must strengthen the opposition as the best counterweight to extremists like ISIL, while pursuing the political solution necessary to solve Syria’s crisis once and for all.

Amusing: Venezuela forced to import light crude oil.

Venezuela claims to have the largest oil reserves in the world.

Miami Herald:
It turns out that Venezuela’s own production of light crudes has plummeted since the late President Hugo Chávez took office in 1999, and the country desperately needs light crudes to blend with its Orinoco Basin extra heavy crude oils. Without such a blend, the Orinoco Basin’s extra heavy crude is too dense to be transported through pipelines to Venezuelan ports and exported abroad.
Venezuela’s oil production, which accounts for 95 percent of the country’s export earnings, should be used in world classrooms as a textbook case of what happens when a populist government starts distributing a country’s wealth in cash subsidies, without investing in maintenance and innovation. Much like happened with Cuba’s once flourishing sugar industry, Venezuela’s Chávez-inspired populism has destroyed the goose that laid the golden eggs.

Fail: Amtrak train leaves station...without passengers.

Your tax dollars subsidize every Amtrak passenger...

Via The NY Daily News:
An Amtrak train bound for Washington pulled away from Penn Station on Saturday without some pretty important cargo: its passengers.
Scores of travelers were stranded after the Acela Express 2253 took off from one platform about 3 p.m. — while they were waiting at another and unaware the train was leaving them behind.
Several minutes passed before the passengers even got wind of what had happened, one told the Daily News.
“They literally sent us to the wrong platform, and the conductor took off without any passengers,” said Damien Miano, 60, of Chelsea. “The right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing. It was just so bizarre.”
Miano said he and the other abandoned travelers eventually returned to the main level, where a red-faced Amtrak manager explained what happened and passed out bags of Doritos.
The manager said the conductor left without getting the okay, Miano said.
“He said that in all the years he was working there, something like this has never happened before,” Miano said. “Those were his exact words.”

Democrats told to avoid the “R” word in 2014

R as in the "recovery" that hasn't exactly materialized...
Via ABC News:
Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don’t talk about the economic recovery. It’s a political loser.
So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over “how much trouble people are in, and doesn’t convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face.”
In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word “recovery” is trumped by a Republican assertion that the Obama administration has had six years to get the economy moving and its policies haven’t worked.
Coincidentally or not, Democrats have largely shelved the “R” word.
Can we get the $800 million in stimulus spending money back? I thought not...

Fail: Only one in ten Obamacare marketplace sign ups was previously uninsured...

Democrats will be lucky if they are upside down on the number of people with private health insurance after Obamacare finally shakes out. There will be a few million more on free Medicaid. Democrats will call that a victory.

Health insurance marketplaces signing up few uninsured Americans, surveys say — WaPo
The new health insurance marketplaces appear to be making little headway so far in signing up Americans who lack health insurance, the Affordable Care Act’s central goal.
A pair of surveys released on Thursday suggest that just one in 10 uninsured people who qualify for private health plans through the new marketplace have signed up for one — and that about half of uninsured adults has looked for information on the online exchanges or plans to look.
Taken together, the snapshots shown by the surveys provide preliminary answers to what has been one of the biggest mysteries since HealthCare.gov and separate state marketplaces opened last fall: Are they attracting their prime audience?
One of the surveys, by the consulting firm McKinsey & Co., shows that, of people who had signed up for coverage through the marketplaces by last month, just one-fourth described themselves as having been without insurance for most of the past year.
The survey also attempted to gauge what has been another fuzzy matter: how many of the people actually have the insurance for which they signed up. Under federal rules, coverage begins only if someone has started to pay their monthly insurance premiums.
And, the survey show, that just over half of uninsured people said they had started to pay, compared with nearly nine in 10 of those signing up on the exchanges who said they were simply switching from one health plan to another.

Obamacare Fail: 58 percent of uninsured have not looked up information about health insurance exchanges

I doubt their will be a last minute mad rush to the website.

Via NRO:
. . . Most of the uninsured haven’t even looked at the exchanges yet: “Ten percent of uninsured Americans in the poll say they have applied for insurance under the exchanges. Thirty-two percent say they have looked up information about the exchanges but have not applied; 58 percent have not looked up information about health insurance exchanges.” Oh, and 59 percent of the uninsured think getting health insurance would “hurt them financially.” Remember, all of this grief and aggravation is driven by the aim to get the uninsured to buy insurance. Just how many Americans are losing insurance? “In the poll, 13 percent of insured Americans say they’ve received a notice that their health insurance plan is being cancelled or changed because it does not meet the minimum coverage requirements under the 2010 health care law.”

Socialism Fail: Lights go out in Venezuela again...

This the second major power outage in 4 months. You would think a country with as much oil as Venezuela could keep the electricity on. That isn't true. The government is so incompetent, you can't even buy toilet paper in Venezuela any more. This is what happens when your leader is a former community organizer bus driver. Of course, socialists never accept responsibility for their failures. The blame a Tea Party right-wing plan.
CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's second massive power outage of the year plunged much of the nation into darkness on Monday night, prompting renewed talk of sabotage from President Nicolas Maduro's government and cries of incompetence from its foes.
Power went off in Caracas and other cities around the country soon after 8 p.m. local time (0030 GMT), to the intense annoyance of residents and commuters.
"I feel so frustrated, angry and impotent," said sales adviser Aneudys Acosta, 29, trudging through the rain along a street in the capital after having to leave the disrupted underground transport system.
"I live far away and here I am stuck under the rain. Something's going wrong that they're not sorting out. The government needs a Plan B. This is just not normal."
Monday's outage appeared similar to a massive September 5 blackout that was one of the worst in the South American OPEC member's history.
Maduro, a 50-year-old former bus driver[...]

"I have no doubt that today's electricity sabotage is part of the right-wing's plan," Cabello said on Twitter.

Fail: Al Jazeera America averaging just 13,000 viewers a day

Hey, that's half as many as signed up for Obamacare on the Federal Exchange in October...

Via NY Post:
After just two months on the air, Al Jazeera America is losing ground in the US.
The US offshoot of the Mideast news outfit managed fewer than half of the viewers who tuned in to its predecessor, Al Gore’s Current TV.
Al Jazeera America has averaged just 13,000 viewers a day since its Aug. 20 launch — on par with a public access channel. In the 25- to 54-year-old audience sought by advertisers, it drew 5,000 viewers.
The ratings are so low, they are considered a “scratch” and aren’t reported by Nielsen.
“We are making large investments in programming and marketing,” an Al Jazeera America spokesperson said Sunday.
By comparison, 31,000 viewers tuned into Current TV a year ago.
Currently, Al Jazeera America is carried in about 44 million US households. The network lost millions of households when Time Warner Cable dropped it shortly after its debut.

Not so shocking: Maryland signs up 82,473 residents for free Medicaid, 3,100 to pay for Obamacare

If this percentage (96% Medicaid) hold up nationally, Obamacare is dead. I wouldn't be surprised to see  similar numbers from other states. Free stuff is very popular. Having your health insurance premium doubled to pay part of someone else medical bills, not so much.

This Friday night news dump via Hot Air
More than 3,100 Maryland households have chosen to enroll through the state’s online marketplace for health insurance…The state also says 82,473 residents are signed up to be automatically enrolled in Medicaid coverage on Jan. 1.
I would be very curious how many of those 3,100 who signed up through the state exchange got a subsidy and how much. My guess is most of them got a large subsidy.

Fail: Oregon’s Obamacare exchange still hasn't enrolled anyone...

Incompetence...

Via OregonLive:
Officials for Oregon’s health insurance exchange on Thursday reported some progress, but acknowledged a major fix to the problem-plagued site may not happen this month as hoped. The website still has not enrolled anyone.
Earlier this month officials at Cover Oregon said they expected the site to let insurance agents and certified application assisters to enroll people by Halloween.
Spokesman Michael Cox said that timeline is now a goal, rather than an expectation. “We’re not going to rush out a system that we are not satisfied with.”

Fail: HealthCare.gov design firm pulls credit from their website...

Fail Boat photo FAIL-2.jpg

In another couple of months, democrats will start disowning this dog.
Visit the website of Michigan-based design firm Teal Media today and you’d never know designers there helped create HealthCare.gov, the troubled online portal for Obamacare.
Just a few days ago, the site looked very different. Teal Media’s homepage featured its work on Obamacare prominently, placing a link to the firm’s work on one of the most well-known websites in America front and center. Now that link, as well as the page devoted to Teal’s work on HealthCare.gov, have been removed…
Teal Media doesn’t seem interested in talking about its work on HealthCare.gov. A woman who answered the phone at the company’s headquarters immediately referred BuzzFeed to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) at the Department of Health And Human Services (HHS) before a single question was asked.

Fail: Only 51,000 signed up for Obamacare during 1st week...

At this rate it will take over 11 years to sign up the 30 million uninsured democrats claimed they wanted to cover.

Via Daily Mail:
Just 51,000 people completed Obamacare applications during the first week the Healthcare.gov website was online, according to two sources inside the Department of Health and Human Services who gave MailOnline an exclusive look at the earliest enrollment numbers.
The career civil servants, who process data inside the agency, confirmed independently that just 6,200 Americans applied for health insurance through the problem-plagued website on October 1, the day it first opened to the public.
Neither HHS nor the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services would comment on the record about the numbers. Enroll America, the president’s organization of health care ‘navigators’ who are charged with helping Americans sign up, didn’t reply to a request for information about its level of success so far.
The White House also did not respond to emails seeking comment.

Fire Sale: GM slashes Chevy Volt prices...

Reportedly, GM is already losing as much as $50 thousand on the Chevy Volt...

Via Detroit News:
General Motors Co. is slashing the price of its plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt by $5,000, making it the latest automaker to lower prices of electric vehicles in the face of lagging consumer demand.
The Detroit-based automaker said it will cut the base price 12.5 percent, from $39,995 to $34,995. The price cut comes just weeks after the automaker announced a $5,000 give-back on the 2012 Volt and $4,000 on the 2013 model.
The first Volt, a 2010 model, cost $41,000.
GM put a positive face on its decision to lower the list price.
“The lower price and cost savings from driving on electricity provide Volt owners an unmatched balance of technology, capability and cost of ownership,” said Don Johnson, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet sales and service. “We have made great strides in reducing costs as we gain experience with electric vehicles and their components.”
