WASHINGTON (AP) — Organizing for Action, the advocacy group supporting President Barack Obama’s agenda, is scaling back its fundraising efforts and cutting its paid staff in half as focus shifts to the approaching midterm elections, three Democratic officials said.
Formed last year from the remnants of Obama’s vaunted re-election campaign, OFA raised more than $30 million in its first 15 months as it worked to build support for Obama priorities like health care, immigration and climate change. But the group’s aggressive courting of big-dollar donors has troubled many Democrats who worry that OFA is siphoning sorely needed dollars from Democratic campaigns just as the party is bracing for a difficult election.
As of May 31, OFA will no longer solicit high-dollar contributions, according to an email obtained by The Associated Press. Kathy Gasperine, the group’s development director and a former Obama fundraiser, told top contributors it would “not be giving significant priority to seeking out new major donors.” [...]

A new ad promoting Obamacare was released Thursday, promoting insurance rebates families receive under the new health care law, according to reports.
The ad by Organizing for Action will run on national cable channels, specifically Bravo and Lifetime, and is the third spot in support of the health care law running this summer, an OFA official told CNN.
On screen, the ad touts in overlay text “ObamaCare is helping everyday families every day.”
“It’s nice to see somebody’s looking out for the little guy,” the father says in the ad.

OFA Talking Points: Don't mention the economic impact of Obama's climate change agenda...
Keep the sheeple in the dark...
Via Washington Examiner:
Via Washington Examiner:
An environmental official suggesting he worked for Organizing for Action, the Obama administration’s advocacy group, sent a memo to supporters and pro-Obama pundits, warning them to avoid using “economic arguments” to defend the president’s new climate change, which could put a damper on coal plants and the Keystone Pipeline project.
Ken Berlin, general counsel to the Coalition for a Green Capital and a former chairman of the Obama campaign’s Energy and Environment Team, also warned people to not “over promise on the impacts taking action will have.”
But officials from Organizing for Action immediately distanced themselves from Berlin and his talking points, saying he was no longer officially affiliated with Obama though he issued the talking points through an email address connecting him to the group and referred to himself as an officer of its Energy and Environmental Team.
Berlin later acknowledged that he wasn’t still affiliated with the Obama organization. Asked about his use of an “OFAeteam” email address, Berlin said, “We have to change that.”
The “Do and Don’t” list Berlin sent out in a email blast was intended to combat criticism of the climate-change speech Obama delivered Tuesday at Georgetown University.

Obama's OFA Chief: Global warming skeptics are “crazy” purveyors of “far-fetched conspiracy theories.”
Jim Messina should learn how to read a chart...
Via Washington Secrets:
The president’s recently formed grass-roots campaign operation revealed Thursday that it plans to attack Republicans who question radical global warming hype, dubbing them
“crazy” purveyors of “far-fetched conspiracy theories.”
In a fundraising memo from President Obama’s re-election campaign manager, Organizing for Action slammed “climate deniers” and their doubts, which Jim Messina compared to the nutty things a crazy uncle would say at Thanksgiving dinner.

Busted: OFA Caught Promoting “Hoax” Video Against Congress Members
Shameful...
Via Fox News:
Via Fox News:
A recent video from a President Obama-aligned group is under fire from fact-checkers for claiming hundreds of House members voted to call climate change a “hoax” — namely, because they didn’t.
The video from Organizing for Action cleverly splices together quotes from Republican climate change skeptics while building up to the factoid about the vote, which was on an amendment to a broader bill in 2011.
The video then includes the following text: “Number of House members who voted in 2011 that climate change was a ‘hoax’: 240.”
The amendment, though, did not include the word hoax, and the circumstances of the vote were far more complicated than the video portrayed. FactCheck.org and The Washington Post have both called out the claim as inaccurate, with the Post giving it four “Pinocchios,” which is the worst score for the truthfulness the paper gives out.

An arbitrator has denied the organization’s effort to obtain the domain name organizingforaction.net, registered by a quick-moving computer technician in Castle Rock, Colo., on Jan. 18, when the news broke that Obama’s former advisors were launching the group.
Derek Bovard proceeded to configure the site so all the hits were directed to the website for the National Rifle Assn. It was one of three domain names for Organizing for Action that the group failed to register before it launched.
“If they don’t like it, they can buy it from me,” Bovard told the Los Angeles Times at the time.organizingforaction.net now redirects to a YouTube video of Dr. Benjamin Carson's Amazing Speech at the National Prayer Breakfast

Amusing: New OFA kick off meeting draws less than 100 people...
That hopey-changey feeling is gone...
Via WaPo:
Via WaPo:
The founders of Organizing for Action, the nonprofit group formed from President Obama’s reelection campaign organization, kicked off a two-day summit Wednesday by saying they would work to pass the president’s policy agenda but not to elect political candidates.
But OFA’s leaders said the group should be celebrated because it aims to mobilize grass-roots supporters to fight the status quo in Washington and help pass Obama’s domestic agenda, including overhauls of the nation’s immigration and gun laws. [...]
Fewer than 100 people attended Wednesday’s opening session of a two-day summit at the St. Regis, an upscale hotel just two blocks from the White House. Many of the Democratic Party’s biggest benefactors did not attend.
Attendees included a few donors, but were mostly volunteers and former White House and campaign staffers. They heard opening speeches by Messina and other founders, including longtime Obama adviser David Plouffe, and then held private strategy sessions. Obama is scheduled to address the group at a dinner Wednesday, with more strategy sessions planned for Thursday.

OFA is "thrilled" about their anti-gun Twitter spambots...
Dirty tricks and cheating always thrill democrats...
Via Politico:
Via Politico:
The Obama group Organizing for Action is fighting back against accusations that it generated fake tweets supporting the president’s call for gun control legislation.
After OFA urged supporters to tweet members of Congress with the hashtag #WeDemandAVote, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) and some conservative bloggers complained that some of the resulting tweets appeared to be fake and accused OFA of generating them.
But OFA says they were simply from people new to Twitter or not very active on the site.
“With tens of thousands of supporters engaging via social media during our day of action last week we are thrilled with the number of whom took to new mediums to get involved,” OFA spokeswoman Katie Hogan told POLITICO. “Just because a supporter does not spend all their time on Twitter does not mean they are not a real person with real concerns about the direction many members of Congress are trying to take this country.”
Stockman’s office said Monday that it had received 16 tweets with identical wording and concluded that 10 of them were “fake, computer-generated spambots” because they used the default egg avatar, had hardly tweeted or followed anyone and “engaged in no human interaction” on Twitter. His office also noted that some of the accounts were created within 48 hours of the tweets and “They follow mostly MSNBC anchors or media outlets, not actual people.”Here is an example:

Unlikely: Obama's New OFA group claim they are nonpartisan...
I am calling BS on this one...
Via Politico:
President Barack Obama’s new nonprofit Organizing for Action insists that promoting the White House’s legislative agenda can’t be counted as “partisan political activity.”
The organization on Wednesday quietly posted new guidelines on its website formally declaring its intention to stay out of campaign politics.
“Neither OFA nor its chapters will be involved in any way in elections or partisan political activity,” OFA wrote. “Its exclusive purpose is public policy advocacy and development, and in particular, both enactment of President Obama’s legislative agenda and the identification and advancement of other goals for progressive change at the state and local level.
The freshly articulated mission language mirrors that of similarly structured conservative groups that have played heavily in recent elections and have drawn criticism from Obama and his allies for corrupting democracy and abusing the tax code.

Obama's OFA May become a Super PAC
I thought all super PACs were evil or something...
Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama’s campaign operation is about to be fired back up just a few months after helping him win a second term with a new mission to assist the president in promoting his top legislative goals and progressive issues.
Senior Obama campaign aides are currently working on the specifics of how to restructure Obama for America, but are considering several different options such as converting it to a 501c4 or perhaps a super PAC, a source familiar with the campaign said.
The new campaign organization will be headed by Jim Messina, Obama’s campaign manager who oversaw the president’s victory over Republican Mitt Romney in November. Messina, Stephanie Cutter, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon and several other top Obama aides are working out the details.

Obama's Organizing for America Instigating Teacher Unrest in Wisconsin
When you pull back the curtain on teacher protests in Wisconsin, you find Barack Obama's Organizing for America has been busy.
(Politico)- The Democratic National Committee’s Organizing for America arm — the remnant of the 2008 Obama campaign — is playing an active role in organizing protests against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s attempt to strip most public employees of collective bargaining rights. As an example, employees nationwide paid 13%~27% (see page 5) of the cost of their employer sponsored health care. Wisconsin teachers currently pay only 4%~6%.
OfA, as the campaign group is known, has been criticized at times for staying out of local issues like same-sex marraige, but it’s riding to the aide of the public sector unions who hoping to persuade some Republican legislators to oppose Walker’s plan. And while Obama may have his difference with teachers unions, OfA’s engagement with the fight — and Obama’s own clear stance against Walker — mean that he’s remaining loyal to key Democratic Party allies at what is, for them, a very dangerous moment.

Liberal Heartache: Organizing for America has started laying off staff
'Hope and Change' is dying a slow death. Organizing for America has started laying off staff.
(NRO)- President Obama’s grassroots org is starting off 2011 with a round of layoffs:
The Democratic National Committee’s Organizing for America has started laying off staff in multiple states as the first phase of a restructuring before the official kickoff of President Barack Obama’s re-election bid.
A Democratic source told Roll Call that party officials started notifying employees Sunday night and that the layoffs are mostly a handful of field staffers in some states as Democrats assess where they want to fight 2012 battlegrounds.

Barack Obama's OFA Endorsing Left-Wing "One Nation" Rally
There is a huge rally of
The Hill reported:
President Obama’s political organizing group is throwing its hat in the ring of increasingly popular marches in Washington D.C. as it pushed supporters on Saturday to attend next weekend’s rally on the National Mall.
Organizing for America, the Democratic National Committee’s group that lauds Obama’s legislative policies, sent out the e-mail blast advertising the Oct. 2 One Nation, Working Together rally as “the biggest progressive demonstration in decades.”
Who will OFA supporters be marching with next Saturday? Among the groups endorsing this rally are radical anti-war groups like Code Pink and War Resisters League, radical immigrant groups like La Raza, socialist groups like Solidarity and CCDS and communist groups like CPUSA. They will be joined by your normal left-wing crowd including the SEIU, NAACP, UAW, AFL-CIO, Rainbow Push Coalition, NEA and a host of anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-union, pro-gay, lesbian and trans-gender groups. You can find a complete list here. How any mainstream American could march with these fringe groups is beyond comprehension. The One Nation march will allow the moonbats to bring signs, so this could get amusing.
