Unemployment is lower for foreign-born workers than American citizens...

There is already something wrong here and Democrats want more foreign-born workers.

Via WSJ:
The unemployment rate for foreign-born workers in the U.S. fell to 5.6% in 2014 from 6.9% in 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday, reflecting the overall firming up of the labor market last year.
The unemployment rate for the native-born fell to 6.3% last year from 7.5% in 2013.
Since 2009, when the national unemployment rate peaked, joblessness among foreign-born workers has fallen by 4.1 percentage points. The drop was 2.9 percentage points for the native born.
The report is compiled annually from the Current Population Survey. Foreign-born workers are those living in the U.S. who were not U.S. citizens at birth and who were born outside the country to parents who were not themselves U.S. citizens, according to the BLS.
The number of foreign-born workers kept rising. Last year, there were 25.7 million in the U.S., up from 25.3 million in 2013. They accounted for 16.5% of the labor force in 2014, up from 16.3% the year before and 15.5% in 2009, the year the recovery began.

Obama is reducing unemployment...for foreigners...

U.S. foreigner employment hits 25 million. Why aren't these jobs going to Americans?

Via CNS News:
(CNSNews.com) – The number of foreign-born individuals holding jobs in the United States hit a record high of 25,019,000 in September, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The BLS has been tracking the number of foreign-born workers annually since 2005 and monthly since 2007. The BLS does not distinguish between foreign-born individuals who are in the United States legally and those who are here illegally.
“The foreign born are those who reside in the United States but who were born outside the country or one of its outlying areas to parents who were not U.S. citizens,” the BLS explains. “The foreign born include legally-admitted immigrants, refugees, temporary residents such as students and temporary workers, and undocumented immigrants. The survey data, however, do not separately identify the numbers of persons in these categories.”

Obamanomics: 47 percent of unemployed have completely given up on finding a job...

Or as democrats would say, "They have been liberated form the burden of having to work for a living."
Key findings:
47 percent agree with the statement, “I’ve completely given up on looking for a job.” (7 percent said they “agree completely,” 7 percent “agree a lot,” 15 percent “agree somewhat,” and 18 percent “agree a little.”)
60 percent say looking for work has been harder than expected. 10 percent say it’s been easier than expected.
Nevertheless, 91 percent agree with the statement, “I’m hopeful that I will find a job I really want in the next six months.”

Obamanomics: African-American unemployment jumps to 13 percent in August...

I would feel sorry for the African-American community if 93%  hadn't voted for Obama and Democrats in 2012.
(CNSNews.com) – The unemployment rate in the African American community climbed from 12.6 percent in July to 13.0 percent in August, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
At the same time, the number of African Americans 16 year or older who held jobs dropped from 16,318,000 in July to 16,108,000 in August–a decline of 210,000.
The labor force participation rate in the African American community dropped from 61.4 percent in July to 60.8 percent in August. The 60.8 percent African American labor force participation rate in August was the lowest that rate has been since July 1982.

Gallop poll finds unemployment spiking in the last 30 days...

Unemployed men outside a soup kitchen in Chicago, 1931

We have to hope this is a polling anomaly, but Gallop is using a 30,000 adult sample and rolling 30 day average....

Via Breitbart:
Outside of the federal government’s Bureau of Labor statistics, the Gallup polling organization also tracks the nation’s unemployment rate. While the BLS and Gallup findings might not always perfectly align, the trends almost always do and the small statistical differences just haven’t been worthy of note. But now Gallup is showing a sizable 30 day jump in the unemployment rate, from 7.7% on July 21 to 8.9% today.
This is an 18-month high.
At the end of July, the BLS showed a 7.4% unemployment rate, compared to Gallup’s 7.8%. Again, a difference not worthy of note. But Gallup’s upward trend to almost 9% in just the last three weeks is alarming, especially because this is not a poll with a history of wild swings due to statistical anomalies. Gallup’s sample size is  a massive 30,000 adults and the rolling average is taken over a full 30 day period.
Are the effects of Obamacare and excessive government regulations beginning to take a massive toll?

Obama clocks in with a record 54th straight month of unemployment at 7.5 percent or higher

I am sure this is somehow Bushes fault...
(CNSNews.com) - Since January 2009, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as president, the United States has seen 54 straight months with the unemployment rate at 7.5 percent or higher, which is the longest stretch of unemployment at or above that rate since 1948, when the Bureau of Labor Statistics started calculating the national unemployment rate.
Today, BLS reported that the seasonally adjusted national unemployment rate for June was 7.6 percent, the same it was in May.
In December 2008, the month after Obama was first elected and the month before he was inaugurated, unemployment was 7.3 percent. In January 2009, it climbed to 7.8 percent. In February, the month Obama signed what the Congressional Budget Office would later determine was an $830 billion economic stimulus law, the unemployment rate climbed to 8.3 percent.

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signs welfare drug testing bill into law...

I had to take a drug test to get my job. Most jobs that pay anything require a drug test. If welfare and unemployment recipients can't pass a drug test, it is unlikely they can get off the government gravy train. Look for liberals to quickly launch a lawsuit claiming this is unfair and discriminatory.
Kansas.com — Calling drug addiction a “scourge in Kansas,” Gov. Sam Brownback signed into law Tuesday a bill to test welfare and unemployment recipients suspected of using illegal drugs.
“This is a horrific thing that hits so many people,” he said. “What this effort is about is an attempt to get ahead of it and, instead of ignoring the problem, start treating the problem.”
The drug testing bill lets the Department for Children and Families require urine tests of any welfare recipient suspected of using illegal drugs. That could be triggered by a person’s demeanor, missed appointments or police records.
Opponents of the bill said that may leave the decision open to people’s biases. But the bill was swiftly approved by the House 106-16 and backed by the Senate on a 29-9 vote.
Senate Vice President Jeff King, R-Independence, called it “the most treatment-focused drug testing bill in the entire country.”

Interesting Chart of the Day: Social Security Disability Applications vs. Unemployment Rate...

In an honest world, there wouldn't be any correlation between unemployment and Social Security disability applications. A bad labor market makes it hard to find a job. It doesn't make people unable to work physically or mentally.

Fun fact of the Day: We spend more tax dollars on disability than welfare and food stamps combined.

Least surprising news of the Day: Economy will never achieve full employment under Obama...

It's not like Obama really cares. Jobs have never been a priority to him...
(CNSNews.com)The Congressional Budget Office is now projecting that the U.S. economy will never achieve full employment during the eight years Barack Obama serves as president.
That would make Obama the only American president during the post-World War II era who never presided over a year in which the U.S. economy offered full employment to the American people.
The CBO defines “full employment” to be when the national unemployment rate is at or below what it calls the “natural unemployment rate.”
The natural unemployment rate, according to CBO, is the “rate of unemployment arising from all sources except fluctuations in aggregate demand...

Alternate Reality: Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis claims paying people not to work, saved millions and millions of jobs...

Only in some strange alternate Obamaverse...

Via Zero Hedge:
Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis made her ubiquitous post-NFP appearance on CNBC this morning and spouted the usual propaganda. However, while discussing how wonderful the ATRA was, the seemingly slap-happy Solis noted how great the fact that emergency unemployment benefits were extended for millions of people was – and that thanks to that (and the magic of the Keynesian multiplier), millions of jobs were saved. So, to sum up, paying people not to work, saved millions and millions of jobs? Indeed America, indeed.

Fail: Obama's jobs council hasn't met publicly in 6 months

It's not like there are 12.1 million Americans unemployed or anything. Oh, wait...

Via Politico:
President Barack Obama’s Jobs Council hasn’t met publicly for six months, even as the issue of job creation dominates the 2012 election.

At this point, the hiatus — which reached the half-year mark Tuesday — might be less awkward than an official meeting, given the hornet’s nest of issues that could sting Obama and the council members if the private-sector panel gets together.
For starters, there’s the discomfort many business leaders may feel in appearing to embrace the president with his reelection bid in full swing.

Guess which President has the longest streak of 8% unemployment since the Great depression

It's Obama!
(CNSNews.com) – Excluding January 2009, the month when Barack Obama was inaugurated, unemployment has stayed above 8 percent, which is longer than under any other administration since the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) started measuring the monthly jobless rate: Over 8 percent for 43 months during Obama compared to a total of 39 months above 8 percent between 1948 and 2008.
Over the course of 50 years, the unemployment rate in the United Stateswas above 8 percent for a total of 3 years and 3 months; under Obama alone, the rate has been above 8 percent for 3 years and 7 months.
Also, no other president presided over three consecutive years of average annual unemployment of more than 8 percent before Obama, according to the BLS data.
The rate was above 8 percent throughout 1975, under President Gerald Ford, and throughout 1982 and 1983, under President Reagan. However, the rate went to 7.8 percent in February 1984 and continued to fall steadily under Reagan – at the end of his second term in 1988, unemployment was down to 5.3 percent.

If all the people who dropped out of the labor market returned, unemployment would be 11.2%

During the Obama years, the popular thing seems to be giving up all hope of finding work and taking early retirement, getting declared disabled or moving back in with the parents.  Where is the "Yes we can!"

Via Daily Caller:
Last Friday’s jobs report does not tell the whole unemployment story, according to American Enterprise Institute blogger and CNBC contributor James Pethokoukis.
He writes, “If the labor force participation rate was the same as when Obama took office in January 2009, the unemployment rate would be 11.2%.”
Had the participation rate remained the same as the previous month, Pethokoukis points out, “the unemployment rate would be 8.4 percent” — higher than the 8.1 percent in the August report.
Those who have returned to work amidst the meager recovery are often only finding jobs that are part-time and pay less than what they formerly earned.
“The broader U-6 unemployment rate, which includes part-time workers who want full-time work, is at 14.7 percent.”

End of Hope: 368,000 Americans exit the workforce in August...

This isn't the change Americans were hoping for...

Via Bloomberg:
Payrolls rose less than projected in August and the unemployment rate was unexpectedly driven down by Americans leaving the labor force, boosting the odds of additional Federal Reserve easing to spur a faltering recovery.
The economy added 96,000 workers last month following a revised 141,000 increase in July that was smaller than initially estimated, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The median estimate of 92 economists surveyed by Bloomberg called for a gain of 130,000. Unemployment fell to 8.1 percent, and hourly earnings were unchanged.[...]
The jobless rate fell from 8.3 percent as 368,000 Americans left the labor force. Unemployment was forecast to hold at 8.3 percent, according to the survey median. Estimates in the Bloomberg survey ranged from 8.1 percent to 8.4 percent.
