Amusing: NY Times set to lose about a billion dollars on sale of Boston Globe...

Today's feel good story...

Via Newsmax:
New York Times Co., which is accepting bids for the Boston Globe Thursday, is likely to fetch a price that’s about a 10th of what it paid in 1993, a sign of the industry’s deterioration over the past two decades.

The bids are set to be in the range of $100 million, according to three people who asked not to be identified because the matter is private. The potential buyers include Rick Daniels, a former president of the Globe, and former Time Inc. CEO Jack Griffin, in partnership with cousins Steven and Ben Taylor, whose family once owned the newspaper, the people said.

Boston Globe disses Romney and endorses Huntsman

Heaven forbid they actually endorse somebody who could beat Obama this November. In other news, Jon Huntsman is still in the race.
(Boston Globe)- And yet the chance for renewal remains. Sour economic data and dysfunction in Washington present major obstacles to Obama’s reelection. Whoever gets the Republican nomination could easily become president. Among the candidates, only two stand out as truly presidential, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. Both have track records of success, and both, through their policies and demeanors, have shown the breadth of spirit to lead the nation. But while Romney proceeds cautiously, strategically, trying to appease enough constituencies to get himself the nomination, Huntsman has been bold. Rather than merely sketch out policies, he articulates goals and ideals. The priorities he would set for the country, from leading the world in renewable energy to retooling education and immigration policies to help American high-tech industries, are far-sighted. He has stood up far more forcefully than Romney against those in his party who reject evolution and the science behind global warming.

With a strong record as governor of Utah and US ambassador to China, arguably the most important overseas diplomatic post, Huntsman’s credentials match those of anyone in the field. He would be the best candidate to seize this moment in GOP history, and the best-prepared to be president.

Journalism Fail: Boston Globe Reporter Had Obama Sr. Immigration Records Since 2009, But Failed to Report Them

In what appears to be a shocking journalistic fail, a Boston Globe reporter acquired Barack H. Obama Sr.'s immigration records in 2009 under a FOIA request.
(Boston Globe)- The INS documents, released to this reporter through a Freedom Of Information Act request in 2009 in the course of research on a biography of the elder Obama to be released in July, reveal Harvard’s crucial role in the tumultuous course of the president’s father’s life. The documents were made public Wednesday by the weekly newspaper, The Arizona Independent.
The records were very uncomplimentary to Obama Sr. He is described as a serial womanizer, polygamist and a "slippery" character. According to the documents, Harvard tried to have Obama Sr. deported. The records were released this week by another newspaper, Arizona Independent, after they received them under a separate FOIA request. The Boston Globe reporter is writing a book and it is unclear if this information would have been included. The mainstream media has a strong aversion to reporting negative information about President Obama and Democrats. The National Enquirer broke the John Edwards' "Love Child" story. The mainstream media suppressed it even after the National Enquirer broke the story. On a more positive note, the New York Times is reportedly selling the Boston Globe for a $900 million loss.
WASHINGTON (AFP) — The Boston Globe reported Friday that a businessman is preparing to offer more than $200 million to buy the struggling newspaper from its owner, The New York Times Co...

The Times Co. bought the Boston Globe for $1.1 billion in 1993 but the value of the newspaper has plummeted since then, along with the fortunes of the US newspaper industry.
Let's hope the new owners promote journalistic integrity.

Liberal dinosaur media(Boston Globe) is in final death throes

The Boston Globe threatened to shut down today if their unions did not agree to $20 million in cuts. Talks bogged down, but the paper is still open. Talks are to resume tomorrow. If the Globe closes, Boston would become the only major city without a major newspaper.

The Boston Globe and its largest workers union have finished all-night contract-concession talks without a deal. The Globes owner, Times Co. has threatened to shutdown the 137-year-old newspaper. (May 4)
