Fail: NY Times hammers Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo for poor ethics, after they endorse him for Governor...
Via NY Times:
Via The NY Times:Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has faced intense scrutiny in recent months, including an investigation by federal prosecutors, over his management of a commission that he created to root out corruption in New York politics, but prevented from examining his administration’s conduct and then prematurely shut down.An analysis of Mr. Cuomo’s handling of an earlier investigative commission, which highlighted the failures of electric companies in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, reveals some of the same hallmarks: interference, efforts to shield his administration’s role and a sense that the governor had a clear idea at the outset of what the commission should conclude. His first use of the Moreland Act, which empowers governors to investigate problems and recommend solutions, focused heavily on the post-hurricane failures of the Long Island Power Authority. A state-run utility, it had a hapless history and a fed-up customer base from the Rockaways to the Hamptons.
For nearly four years, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has used his formidable political skills to achieve major advances for New York. He pressured and ultimately persuaded some Republican legislators to allow same-sex marriage in the state in 2011. That provided momentum for marriage equality nationally and changed many lives for the better. At least 30,000 same-sex couples have celebrated legal marriages in the state since the law changed. He pushed through the strongest gun-control measure in the country after the mass killing of schoolchildren in Newtown, Conn., in 2012. The new law expanded the ban on automatic weapons and big ammunition magazines and requires background checks for private gun sales, changes that are an improvement to public safety. Many voters upstate have anti-Cuomo bumper stickers and lawn signs registering their anger at the gun control bill. These are badges of political courage for Mr. Cuomo. His budgets have been on time, and though his tax policies have favored the wealthy, he managed to get higher credit ratings for the state for the first time in decades. While The Times’s editorial board chose not to make an endorsement in the Democratic primary in September, we recommend Mr. Cuomo for re-election on the basis of these achievements.

Yes. Romney feels lucky today.
The "Dirty Harry" star and Oscar-winning director of "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby" endorsed the Republican presidential candidate Friday night during a Sun Valley fundraiser.
"I think the country needs a boost," Eastwood told The Associated Press as he joined other Romney supporters for the private campaign event.
In February, Eastwood told Fox News that he wasn't supporting any politician at that time. Some saw the "halftime in America" ad he made for the Super Bowl as a nod toward President Barack Obama. Eastwood responded then by saying he was not "politically affiliated" with the president.
"Now more than ever do we need Gov. Romney. I'm going to be voting for him," Eastwood told Romney supporters Friday night.
"He just made my day," Romney said. "What a guy."

Three more Dems Run Away From Obama And DNC Convention
Via Politico:
Add Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar to the growing list of Democrats who are skipping the Democratic National Convention this summer.Via The Weekly Standard:
The moderate Democrat backs President Barack Obama’s reelection but told POLITICO on Tuesday he won’t be attending the convention in Charlotte, N.C., in September.
“I went to the Texas state Democratic convention [in June],” Cuellar, a four-term congressman, said by phone from Laredo, Texas. “As I get close to my election, I want to spend more time in my district and focus on my reelection. Right now, I have no plans to attend.”
Another North Carolina Democrat is refusing to support President Obama's reelection effort. This time it's Rep. Larry Kissell.Via The Weekly Standard:
"[H]e doesn’t plan to endorse Obama for re-election and isn’t sure he’ll attend his party’s national convention in Charlotte," McClatchy reports. "Kissell represents the 8th District, which runs from Mecklenburg County to Robeson County. Last year’s redistricting added heavily Republican areas of Rowan, Davidson and Randolph counties while removing thousands of Democratic voters in Charlotte and Fayetteville."
Matt Connelly, a regional spokesman for the Republican National Committee, remarks on Twitter: "Rep. Kissell's (D-NC) district ends 9 blocks away from Bank of America Stadium, but he isn't sure if he'll attend the DNC."
Earlier today, news broke that North Carolina congressman Larry Kissell is refusing to endorse President Obama and might not attend the Democratic convention later this year in Charlotte, N.C. And now, there's word that Rep. Hayden Rogers won't be endorsing Obama or even attending the convention.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports:
Hayden Rogers will join two other North Carolina congressional candidates in skipping the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte and not endorsing President Obama.
“My sole focus is on running for Congress in the 11th District,” Rogers said. “I will be concentrating my time and energy on reaching out to as many voters as possible to discuss the issues facing Western North Carolina and America. I have no plans to attend the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte and will not be endorsing in the 2012 presidential race.” ...

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton Endorses Mitt Romeny
Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton is a favorite with many conservatives. This may help Romney gain his conservative mojo.
(Politico) — John Bolton, the hawkish former ambassador to the United Nations under George W. Bush, endorsed Mitt Romney Wednesday night.
“I think Gov. Romney is the person who can best lead the party, best articulate our conservative principles and is most likely to beat Barack Obama,” Bolton told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News.
Bolton had talked about a presidential bid of his own last year, but announced in September that he would not run.
Once it was clear Bolton would not pursue a presidential run of his own, he had been heavily courted by several GOP hopefuls, including Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich. Gingrich even worked a promise to appoint Bolton as his Secretary of State into some versions of his stump speech.

Boston Globe disses Romney and endorses Huntsman
(Boston Globe)- And yet the chance for renewal remains. Sour economic data and dysfunction in Washington present major obstacles to Obama’s reelection. Whoever gets the Republican nomination could easily become president. Among the candidates, only two stand out as truly presidential, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. Both have track records of success, and both, through their policies and demeanors, have shown the breadth of spirit to lead the nation. But while Romney proceeds cautiously, strategically, trying to appease enough constituencies to get himself the nomination, Huntsman has been bold. Rather than merely sketch out policies, he articulates goals and ideals. The priorities he would set for the country, from leading the world in renewable energy to retooling education and immigration policies to help American high-tech industries, are far-sighted. He has stood up far more forcefully than Romney against those in his party who reject evolution and the science behind global warming.
With a strong record as governor of Utah and US ambassador to China, arguably the most important overseas diplomatic post, Huntsman’s credentials match those of anyone in the field. He would be the best candidate to seize this moment in GOP history, and the best-prepared to be president.

Report: Sen. John McCain will endorse Romney
Via BuzzFeed:
Arizona Senator John McCain, his party’s 2008 nominee, will endorse Mitt Romney in New Hampshire tomorrow, a well-placed former McCain aide told BuzzFeed Tuesday.
McCain and Romney were bitter foes in 2008, but Romney repaired the relationship after his defeat with a season of determined campaigning for his former rival.
The endorsement will offer the Romney campaign a huge story after a tight and ambiguous finish in Iowa.

Rumor: Sheriff Joe Arpaio to endorse and campaign for Rick Perry
Reportedly, Rick Perry will receive the endorsement of “America’s Toughest Sheriff” this week.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., who calls himself “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” will endorse Texas Gov. Rick Perry next week, a source with knowledge of the endorsement told ABC News.
Arpaio espouses a hard-line stance on illegal immigration, leading raids to round up and jail illegal immigrants, and was a major proponent of the controversial Arizona immigration law. Perry has spoken with Arpaio several times over the phone since entering the presidential race.
Arpaio, a much sought after endorsement in the GOP field, plans to campaign with Perry in New Hampshire next week, the source said. The Texas governor will be in the Granite State Tuesday and Wednesday, holding three town halls and a breakfast at the Nashua Chamber of Commerce along with speaking at the New Hampshire State House.

Did Romney Buy Pawlenty's Endorsement?
Hmm...
(NRO) — Tim Pawlenty may be receiving help in paying off a campaign debt (possibly as high as six figures) from the Romney campaign in exchange for his decision to endorse Romney, reports Politico.
Not surprisingly, Pawlenty did not cite that as one of the reasons he had endorsed Mitt Romney today in an interview this afternoon with Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

Shocker: NEA Endorses Obama Re-election
As if we needed another reason to cut teachers bloated benefit packages...
(Chicago Tribune) — The nation’s largest teachers union voted Monday to support President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election bid, marking one of the earliest union endorsements for the administration. The NEA has shown they are a wholly owned organ of the Democratic Party. They have endorsed Obama for 2012 before Republicans even decide who their candidate will be.
About 72 percent of the National Education Association’s representative assembly voted to recommend the president’s candidacy to its 3.2 million members, despite past disagreements between the Obama administration and many rank-and-file teachers who dislike parts of the president’s reform agenda.
An estimated 5,414 members cast their support for the president while 2,102 members said no during the summer convention held in Chicago.
The NEA becomes one of the first labor unions to formally support the president in 2012.
“We have the same shared vision of America. (The president) has always talked about the importance of education from preschool to the graduate level,” said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. ” I don’t mind fighting on how to get to that shared vision. I believe out of that discussion may come ideas that neither one of us thought about and may be better.”

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is now openly calling for Barack Obama’s re-election
Can you blame him? President Obama gave away the European missile defense. His supporters claimed there must have been a secret deal for Russian help with Iran's nuclear weapons program. That hasn't materialized. Obama either gave away the missile shield for nothing or was naive enough to let the Russians double-cross him, Either way, you can see why they want four more years with a patsy as U.S. President.
When Hillary Clinton famously called for a “reset” of Washington’s relations with Moscow back in March 2009, she should have used the more accurate term, “surrender”. From caving in to Russian demands to scrap plans for Third Site missile defences in eastern and central Europe to signing on to the New START Treaty, US policy towards Russia under the Obama administration has been one wretched give away after another, even stretching as far as handing over sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent.Dmitry Medvedev:
Is it any wonder that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is now openly calling for Barack Obama’s re-election? In an extraordinary interview with The Financial Times, the Russian leader gives a glowing account of his US counterpart, in a direct intervention in US domestic politics 16 months ahead of the November 2012 presidential election.
Let me tell you that no one wishes the re-election of Barack Obama as US president as I do…

Is Calling Some Woman a "Whore" a New Requirement for a NOW Endorsement?

The National Organization for Women (NOW) endorsed Jerry Brown one day after he was caught on tape condoning calling Meg Whitman a "whore." Now, NOW has endorsed
At a quarterly meeting, Florida-based members of the National Organization for Women said Grayson, a Democrat, was a champion for the group’s causes. They also said his Republican opponent, Daniel Webster, would significantly delay or turn back women’s advancement if elected.
“He’s 100 percent on women’s issues,” Donna Slutiak, president of the Florida chapter of the group, said of Grayson. “He’s never let us down yet.”

More here.
GOP Candidate Sharron Angle is a Reagan conservative and already has the support of Gun Owners of America. Why is the NRA considering endorsing anti-gun rights "Dingy" Harry Reid? Here is what the NRA's chief lobbyist, Chris Cox, told THE WEEKLY STANDARD.
The NRA is frightened by the possibility that Harry Reid would be replaced by an anti-gun Democrat as majority leader. "Truthfully, the two individuals vying for majority leader should Harry Reid lose are the two most rabidly anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment senators in Washington, Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin," Cox said. "Does that give concern to NRA members and gun owners all over America? Absolutely, it does."
That argument doesn't hold water. There is no grantee Democrats will even maintain control of the Senate after the 2010 election cycle. Even if they do, it won't matter who the controls the leadership. The tidal wave of Republican and conservative victories this fall will drastically change the makeup of the House and Senate. Any anti-gun legislation will be doomed to stall out.
The other possible reason for a NRA endorsement of Harry Reid is more unsettling. The NRA may have sold out it's membership similar to what the AARP did to theirs by endorsing Obamacare. Reportedly, the NRA has become much more profit driven in recent years.
My support for the NRA has been on the wane for some years now. Like other members, I’ve seen comments such as “I had a basic membership and they kept harassing me for more funds” and ”I felt like they were no longer supporting the Second Amendment or myself as a gun owner”. There are plenty of these comments out there and they’re not hard to find. In my own case, they kept sending me unsolicited materials, such as videos, promptly followed by an invoice. Annoying, to say the least.
The NRA negotiated a "carve out" exclusion from the DISCLOSE ACT. The DISCLOSE ACT is the Democrats response to the Supreme Court striking down limits on campaign ads by businesses and unions prior to an election.
The NRA "carve-out" reaffirms the wisdom of the First Amendment's precise language: "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech."
Congress can't help itself. Since 1798, with the Alien and Sedition Acts, incumbent politicians have yearned for legal duct tape for their opponents' mouths. The Disclose Act is a doozy of a muzzle.
Here is an interview where the NRA's media liaison Rachel Parsons explains how the NRA sold out the First Amendment for the Second Amendment. At the 7:21 mark:
“We had to put the Second Amendment over the First Amendment.”
As part of this deal, there are reports NRA Board members have been gagged from speaking out against Obama's SCOTUS nominee Elena Kagan.
Jimmy Z does a good job explaining this betrayal by the NRA's leadership of their members. There is bleeped profanity near the end.
The AARP lost a reported 200,000 members, by January 2010, after they endorsed Obamacare. If the NRA endorses Harry Reid, every NRA member should cancel their membership.
