Mainstream media liberal bias update...

"Meet the Press" Moderator David Gregory Tries to be a Real Journalist After Massachusetts Wake-up call
Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett claimed today on Meet the Press that President Obama has:
David Gregory responded:
Will the main stream media finally start doing it's job?
"Turned the Economy Around."
David Gregory responded:
"I'm sorry - you can't say you've turned the economy around when there are 4 million jobs that have been lost on the President's watch, when the Debt is higher, and the Stimulus did not produce the jobs the administration said it would."

MSM Finally Realizes Consumers are Supporting Ford and Shunning GM, Chrysler

Ford reported a surprising third quarter profit of $1 billion. Ford sales have been much stronger than GM and Chrysler since the auto manufacturing takeover by Team Obama. Common sense says that Americans are rewarding Ford and shunning UAW owned Chrysler and government owned GM. Now, the mainstream media can no longer continue to ignore the facts.
From NewsBusters:
In the eighth paragraph of their article covering October's auto sales, AP reporters Tom Krisher and Dee-Ann Durbin recognized part of the reason -- and perhaps the most important reason -- why Ford has been cleaning the clocks of General Motors and Chrysler all year long:Ford has benefited from consumer goodwill because it didn't take government bailout money or go into bankruptcy protection, as General Motors and Chrysler did.
Ford will be hampered by a competitive wage disadvantage for the next two years. The UAW membership refused to give Ford the same concessions they gave the bailed out auto manufacturers. One of the criticisms of giving the UAW such a large stake in bailed out Chrysler and GM was the UAW would have little motive to give Ford a good contract when they owned significant parts of Ford's competitors. This seems to be coming to fruition more quickly than anyone imagined.

Janeane Garofalo thinks there is no liberal news outlet in America

Perhaps she is unfamiliar with the New York Times, NBC, ABC and all the rest of the main stream media with the exception of Fox news.
From NewsBusters:
I've often wondered what the color of the sky is in Janeane Garofalo's world, and after hearing her interview on BBC Radio Saturday, I'm convinced this woman lives on another planet.
After all, in her view: "[T]he media in the States is much more to the right. I mean there is almost no liberal outlet for news commentary or editorializing."
This coming from a woman who used to host a program on the far-left-leaning Air America Radio, and is a frequent guest on Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" as well as Bill Maher's "Real Time."

MSM Praises Obama's Flip-Flops and Publishes Criticism of Bush for Keeping His Word

From US News and World Report via Yahoo:
President Obama has been shifting gears, and reversing some of his policies, at a remarkable rate. But so far, he hasn't paid much of a political price for it, a testament to his popularity and the willingness of Americans to give him a chance to get results.
The writer lists some of President Obama's flip-flops and then shares this gem.
Overall, however, Obama has been praised for his flexibility, not condemned for his flip-flops. One reason, pollsters say, is that he seems such a contrast to the still-unpopular Bush, who was the opposite--stubborn and set in his ways. "When presented with a tough problem where a change of course was called for, Bush just dug in. He felt that it was weakness to change his mind," says a senior Democratic strategist. He cites Bush's positions to limit stem cell research, oppose legislation expanding healthcare for children, enact partial privatization of Social Security, and pursue the Iraq war. In contrast, he says, "Obama is willing to change course if he feels it's needed. The American people will still support him if he is not seen as doing it for political reasons."
In addition, Obama gains respect from Americans because when he does change his mind or shift his emphasis, he takes pains to explain it to the country. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs adds that on the big issues, such as eventual withdrawal from Iraq, stimulating the economy, overhauling the healthcare system, and beefing up U.S. forces in Afghanistan, the president isn't reversing himself at all and "has done exactly what he said he would do in the campaign.

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas calls Obama "sort of God"
Here is another example of the blatant bias and adulation the "Main Stream Media" has for Barack Obama,
From NewsBusters:
From the video:
From NewsBusters:
Newsweek editor Evan Thomas brought adulation over President Obama’s Cairo speech to a whole new level on Friday, declaring on MSNBC: "I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God."
From the video:
THOMAS: ... Obama is 'we are above that now.' We're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial. We stand for something - I mean in a way Obama's standing above the country, above - above the world, he's sort of God. He's-
MATTHEWS: Yeah.

Obama is 'sad' when a Muslim terrorist kills a US soldier and 'shocked and outraged' when an abortion doctor is killed
Obama is 'sad' when a Muslim terrorist kills a US soldier and 'shocked and outraged' when an abortion doctor is killed. The contrast between President Obama's reaction to these events that happened only hours apart is significant. President Obama responded to the death of Dr. Tiller after only five hours. It took him two days to issue a statement on the death of a US soldier by a domestic Muslim terrorist. The main stream news media had a bias in their reporting. AP attributed the killing our soldier to, "political and religious motives." They never mention the word Islamic, Muslim or terrorist.
The Weekly Standard reported:
The Weekly Standard reported:
After two days of silence, President Obama issued a statement Wednesday on the shooting of two U.S. soldiers by a Muslim militant in Arkansas--but the White House didn't even email the statement to its list of national reporters. Rather, the White House appears to have quietly released this statement to a local AP bureau in Arkansas (via Michelle Malkin):“I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence against two brave young soldiers who were doing their part to strengthen our armed forces and keep our country safe. I would like to wish Quinton Ezeagwula a speedy recovery, and to offer my condolences and prayers to William Long’s family as they mourn the loss of their son.” (emphasis mine)
In contrast, the White House blasted a statement to reporters via email about five hours after news broke that third-trimester abortionist George Tiller was murdered on Sunday:I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.(emphasis mine)
The contrast between Obama's statements is striking: He's "deeply saddened" by the murder of a U.S. soldier, but "shocked and outraged" by the murder of an abortionist? The murder of a U.S. soldier is a "senseless" act of violence but the murder of an abortionist is a "heinous" act of violence?

President Obama is suddenly proud of his Muslim roots
If President Obama is really proud of his Muslim roots, why did his Fight the Smears website claim his father was an agnostic. The Main Stream Media did everything they could to help hide Obama's Muslim roots. They told us his Kenyan grandmother was a Christian. Strangely, Obama's Kenyan grandmother is now attending the Hajj. From the Los Angeles Times:
Reporting from Washington -- When President Obama takes the podium in Cairo this week for his much-anticipated speech to the Muslim world, he'll stand before them as an American leader born of an African Muslim father and raised partly in Indonesia, as well as a politician who cut his political teeth in an Illinois political culture that has a sizable Muslim population.
And he will talk, aides say, about those roots he shares with the Muslim world.
It is a politics of biography rapidly becoming synonymous with the Obama presidency. The message he hopes to deliver to Muslims, outlined by advisors ahead of the president's departure Wednesday for the Middle East, will draw on the same storytelling instincts Obama has employed with great success at home.
Now, as Obama attempts to forge new relations with a Muslim community that is at best suspicious of American motives, he relies on a diplomacy of personality that rests on the hunch that the best way to make friends for his country is by winning them over himself.
"The fact is that the president himself experienced Islam on three continents before he's been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world," said Denis McDonough, Obama's deputy national security advisor for strategic communications. The president sees a fundamental need, McDonough said, to change "how we engage our allies."

Democrats are hypocrites on minority judicial appointments
The hypocrisy of Obama and the Democratic Party on minority judicial appointments is astounding. This hypocrisy is being covered up and supported by the mainstream media. The MSM, Democrats and many pundits are cautioning Republicans and conservatives to be careful and not mount to strong an opposition to Hispanic SCOTUS nominee Sonia Sotomayor. They say Republicans will face a Hispanic voter backlash. Democrats can hardly keep from snickering over the quandary they think Republicans are faced with. When the Democrats in the Senate stonewalled Miguel Estrada, one of President Bush's first judicial nominees, there was no talk of a Hispanic backlash. Here is what happened when Republicans nominated an "inspirational" Hispanic candidate to the Circuit Court. From GOPUSA:
Democrats managed to stonewall this extremely qualified candidate until he finally withdrew. The reason they blocked this nomination was they didn't want the Republicans to have a Hispanic candidate primed for any Supreme Court opening that might have occurred. The liberal media never made a big issue of this hypocritical political move. There wasn't any talk of a Hispanic backlash against the Democrats.
The self-proclaimed "Party of the people," has shown its true colors. The Party which claims, time and time again, to champion the causes of women, minorities, and the "oppressed" has revealed its true agenda. For the Democrats, the nomination of Miguel Estrada proves that it's not enough to be a minority. It's not enough to overcome adversity and triumph through education and hard work. For the Democrats, you must be the "right kind" of minority to garner their support.
Miguel A. Estrada was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and immigrated to the United States with his family as a teenager. He attended Columbia College in New York and graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1983. Estrada received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1986 and was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
With these sterling academic credentials in hand, Estrada served as a law clerk for U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Amalya Kearse of the Second Circuit. Estrada then clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court. From 1990 until 1992, Miguel Estrada served as Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Appellate Section for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of New York. During the Clinton administration, he joined the United States Department of Justice as an Assistant to the Solicitor General. Estrada is currently a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
On May 9, 2001, President Bush nominated Miguel Estrada to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit. This court is widely believed to be the most influential circuit court and a stepping stone to the U.S. Supreme Court. Under the control of the Democrats, the Senate Judiciary Committee let the Estrada nomination languish for more than a year and a half. Only after the Republicans took control of the Senate following the 2002 elections and the Judiciary Committee fell under the chairmanship of Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), did Estrada get his day. Estrada's nomination was passed out of the committee by a straight party line vote.
Now, Senate Democrats are moving to filibuster the Estrada nomination and set a dangerous precedent in the Senate. Never before has a circuit court nominee been filibustered. By proceeding with this course of action, the Democrats would effectively change the rules to require a super-majority of 60 votes for confirmation rather than a simple majority of 51 votes. Three Senate Democrats have already said they will vote for Estrada: John B. Breaux of Louisiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, and Zell Miller of Georgia.

The SCOTUS Nominee Media Double Standard
Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor said at a Cultural Diversity Lecture at the University of California Berkeley School of Law in 2001,
Would John Roberts ever have been confirmed if he had said,
Of course, John Roberts never made that statement. The liberal media would have been "up in arms" if he had. So, what does the liberal media have to say about Judge Sotomayor? From a New York Times editorial,
Hat tips to I Hate THe Media and Hot Air blog.
“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

“I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a Latina female who hasn’t lived that life.”
Of course, John Roberts never made that statement. The liberal media would have been "up in arms" if he had. So, what does the liberal media have to say about Judge Sotomayor? From a New York Times editorial,
If Judge Sotomayor joins the court, it will be a special point of pride for Hispanic-Americans — as it was for Jews, blacks and women before them to see one of their own take a seat on the highest tribunal in the land. It will also bring the paltry number of female justices back to two. And as Democratic Party strategists have no doubt calculated, the selection could give Mr. Obama and his party a boost with a key voting group.

The White House loves MSNBC(video)
Why shouldn't they? Reported by none other than the LA Times:
Obama official Kareem Dale confirms White House's love for MSNBC
For some inexplicable reason having to do with who knows what, a widespread impression has grown among many politics fans that MSNBC and its crowd of talkers -- including Chris "Thrill Up My Leg" Matthews, Norah "The GOP Is Doomed to Die" O'Donnell and Ed "It's Time to Grind Them Into the Ground" Schultz -- are somewhat in favor of President Obama.
Well, actually in complete love with the Great Change Agent.
Now, thanks to the ubiquitous cameras of C-SPAN, comes official videoed word from Kareem Dale, special assistant to the president for arts and culture and a key White House advisor on disability policy.
Here is the video (via YouTube)
At the 1:51 mark of this video, Dale candidly reveals the new administration's reciprocal feelings. Hint: Apparently the new White House has a popular internal saying involving the words "love" and "MSNBC."
Liberal dinosaur media(Boston Globe) is in final death throes
The Boston Globe threatened to shut down today if their unions did not agree to $20 million in cuts. Talks bogged down, but the paper is still open. Talks are to resume tomorrow. If the Globe closes, Boston would become the only major city without a major newspaper.
The Boston Globe and its largest workers union have finished all-night contract-concession talks without a deal. The Globes owner, Times Co. has threatened to shutdown the 137-year-old newspaper. (May 4)

Facts the 60% that approve of Obama do not know
Polls still show President Obama with a 60% approval rating. However, his Approval Index has fallen to only +1. The reason is the disparity of information Americans are receiving. Watchers of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN know all about Obama's Portuguese water dog and the dirt being dished by Sarah Palin's daughter's ex fiance. Here are some facts they probably don't know. From The Chronicle Herald:
Fox News is the only network regularly reporting this information. Consequently, they are now the number two most watched channel. They have been number one in cable news for some time. Fox is expanding while the New York Times and other liberal news sources are going broke.
•Obama’s first two major bills alone, the "stimulus" and "omnibus," cost nearly twice as much as was spent on Iraq over six years – $1.2 trillion vs. $650 billion.
•Obama abandoned his campaign promise of "a net spending cut," his first annual deficit – not counting bailouts – being three times the worst deficit under President George W. Bush.
•Obama’s objective in his first G20 summit – commitments to spend our way to prosperity with massive stimulus boondoggles across the G20 – was rejected out of hand.
•Obama’s objective in his first NATO summit – commitments to combat troops for Afghanistan from "our European allies," which Obama and his party imagined were ready and willing to fight if only someone "enlightened" like him were running things – was predictably refused, with some more European non-combat contingents offered as a token.
•Obama’s Defence Department announced cuts of $1.4 billion to missile defence, the day after North Korea test-fired its long-range, multi-stage ballistic missile.
•Obama’s economics were criticized by Warren Buffet, whose endorsement had been candidate Obama’s highest economic credential.
•Obama reversed the free trade Bush policy that had allowed about 100 Mexican tractor-trailers into the United States, which the Mexican government immediately used as an excuse to levy tariffs on 90 American goods amounting to $2.4 billion in U.S. exports.
•Obama’s "tax cuts for 95 per cent" turned out to mean $13 a week from June to December, to be clawed back to $8 a week in January – as compared with President Bush’s 2008 tax rebates of $600 to $1,200 plus $300 per child, which were notably scoffed at during the election campaign by Michelle Obama.
•Obama’s campaign promise of a $3,000-per-employee tax credit for businesses that hired new workers – repeated ad nauseam for weeks before the election – was discreetly retired even before inauguration day.
•Obama abandoned his campaign promise that "lobbyists won’t work in my White House," waiving his no-lobbyist executive order or conveniently re-
defining his appointees’ past lobbying work to allow 30 lobbyists into his administration.
•Obama abandoned his campaign promise to reform earmarks, signing the omnibus bill which contained 8,816 of them.
•Obama took more money from AIG than any other politician in 2008 – over $100,000 – and signed into law the provision guaranteeing the AIG bonuses which later had him in front of the cameras "shaking with outrage" and siccing the pitchfork crowd on law-abiding citizens who had fulfilled their end of a contract and had their payment upheld by Obama’s own legislation.

Members of the White House having secret off the record meetings with members of the news media
Based on the medias love affair with President Obama, this information is not surprising. Many news outlets are acting as Obama's biggest supporters. They propaganda the points he wants covered and ignore any negative news.
We already knew Rahm Emanuel has daily secret phone calls with the media. The Washington Post reports:
We already knew Rahm Emanuel has daily secret phone calls with the media. The Washington Post reports:
Last Tuesday evening, Rahm Emanuel quietly slipped into an eighth-floor office at the Watergate.
As white-jacketed waiters poured red and white wine and served a three-course salmon and risotto dinner, the White House chief of staff spent two hours chatting with some of Washington's top journalists -- excusing himself to take a call from President Obama and another from Hillary Clinton.
As the journalists hurled questions and argued among themselves, Emanuel said: "This feels a lot like a Jewish family dinner."

The New York Times is spinning into bankruptcy and good riddance

The New York Times is headed to an almost inevitable bankruptcy. The owe more than $1 billion. They lost another $75 million in the first quarter of this year and cash is running low($34 million.) In recent years, They have lost both readers and advertisers. Many people claim their left wing bias has cost them severely. They attacked President Bush unrelentingly. Now, they have become what amounts to little more than a propaganda outlet for Barack Obama and progressive democrats. Market forces should be allowed to rule and this dinosaur of the left should die. This is sad. Once, the New York Times was the most highly respected newspaper in the U.S. Editorial by Bill O’Reilly via Boston Herald.
The nation’s largest left-wing newspaper and the bible for network news producers and bookers may be going under. This past week, The New York Times [NYT] announced more staggering losses: nearly $75 million in the first quarter alone. The New York Post is reporting that the Times Company owes more than $1 billion and has just $34 million in the bank. A few months ago, the company borrowed $250 million from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim at a reported 14 percent interest rate. With things going south fast (pardon the pun), Slim might want to put in a call to Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr.
The spin from Sulzberger is that the Internet is strangling the newspaper industry, and there is some truth to that. Why read an ideologically crazed paper when you can acquire a variety of information on your computer? But other papers are not suffering nearly as much as the Times, so there must be more to it.
There is no question that the Times has journalistic talent. This week the paper won five Pulitzers. It’s true that the Pulitzer people favor left-wing operations (the past eight Pulitzer Prizes for commentary have gone to liberal writers), but New York Times journalists often do good reporting.
The problem is that under Sulzberger and executive editor Bill Keller, the Times has gone crazy left, attacking those with whom the paper disagrees and demonstrating a hatred for conservatives (particularly President Bush) that is almost pathological. The Times features liberal columnists in every section of the paper, and they hit low, often using personal invective to smear perceived opponents.

CIA's interrogation techniques prevented the "Second Wave" of attacks in the US

Released Justice Dept. memos show that the CIA's interrogation techniques prevented the "Second Wave" of attacks in the US. According to the leaked memos, the CIA believes that it would have been unable to obtain critical information from numerous detainees, including [Khalid Sheik Mohammed] and Abu Zubaydah, without these enhanced techniques." This information included plans for Al Qaeda to take down the tallest building(the Library Tower) on the West Coast in a second wave attack. This information was buried in the released memos and ignored by the Main Stream Media until now. The Washington Post reported,
Specifically, interrogation with enhanced techniques "led to the discovery of a KSM plot, the 'Second Wave,' 'to use East Asian operatives to crash a hijacked airliner into' a building in Los Angeles." KSM later acknowledged before a military commission at Guantanamo Bay that the target was the Library Tower, the tallest building on the West Coast. The memo explains that "information obtained from KSM also led to the capture of Riduan bin Isomuddin, better known as Hambali, and the discovery of the Guraba Cell, a 17-member Jemmah Islamiyah cell tasked with executing the 'Second Wave.' " In other words, without enhanced interrogations, there could be a hole in the ground in Los Angeles to match the one in New York.

Officials spread lies for Obama about Captain Phillips rescue

The Associated press reported that President Obama gave the order to use military force to rescue the hostage. That is misleading at best. There were standing orders to take action if Captain Phillips life was in danger, but Obama did not authorize a rescue operation. This success is the result of the Navel Officer on the scene taking action within his orders. The AP should print a retraction. Here is the AP story.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama twice authorized the military to rescue a U.S. captain held by Somali pirates and whose life appeared to be at risk.
Officials say Obama gave the OK on Friday and Saturday to rescue Capt. Richard Phillips from a lifeboat off the Somali coast. Officials say both times the Pentagon believed Phillips' life was at risk.
The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
Here is what the Wall Street Journal reported.
Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, commander of all naval forces in the Middle East, told a Pentagon news conference that the USS Bainbridge had been towing the lifeboat holding the pirates and Capt. Phillips into calmer waters when Navy Seal sharpshooters, positioned at the tail of the ship, saw the head and shoulders of the three remaining pirates, with one of them pointing an AK-47 machine gun at the head of Capt. Phillips.
Adm. Gortney said the Navy officer in charge of the operation ordered the pirates to be fired upon.
Before the incident, Adm. Gortney said U.S. officials had hoped to resolve the standoff peacefully.
Obama did not order an operation, but instead was still seeking a negotiated solution. Most of the Main Stream Media will print and believe anything that makes Obama look good.
