Scary: Congressional Black Caucus wants Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee as next DHS Secretary

Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee as a replacement for outgoing-DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.”
A letter  dated July 25 and signed by CBC Chairwoman Rep. Marcia Fudge, an Ohio Democrat, urges President Barack Obama to consider Jackson Lee for the position formerly held by Janet Napolitano, the first woman to hold the position. Napolitano resigned earlier this month to become president of the University of California.
“Representative Jackson Lee would serve as an effective DHS Secretary because she understands the importance of increasing border security and maintaining homeland security,” the nomination letter reads.

In the midst of the scandals involving Department of Justice, Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee gave a spirited half-hour defense of Attorney General Eric Holder on the House floor Thursday afternoon, saying she was “baffled” by the attacks on the AG that she could personally vouch for his “integrity” and the good works he’s done for the American people.

“When it is suggested that the DOJ would violate that scared trust of blocking info to the American public, then obviously there is enormous amount of concern, Jackson Lee said.
However, she ruled out Holder’s involvement in any of the scandals, citing his 37 years of public service. “Those were many years since 1976, and if I would take a guess, if he were going to falter in the practice of law, or in the upholding of justice, he would have faltered a long time ago,” she said.

The Democratic Representative went on to to discuss the acts of AG “away from the aura of cameras and hysteria” stating that in regards to Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS Scandal, the AP Scandal and investigation into Fox News’ James Rosen that, “It seems like all of this is piling on all on someone who was not involved.”

“It serves no purpose to go on an unsubstantiated witch hunt on what is one of the finest public servants that this country has seen,” Lee said. “And that is the Attorney General of the United Stated, Eric H. Holder Junior.”

Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Thursday compared the series of automatic federal budget cuts that took effect on March 1 to the Japanese tsunami of 2011 that killed more than 15,000 people and left millions more without power and water, while sparking a nuclear reactor meltdown.

“And for those whose memories fade, I want you to be reminded of the tsunami,” Jackson Lee said. “For it does not give notice and it is tragic and reckless for those who say ‘You know what, the sequester has started and I feel pretty good’ because you have not been hit by the tsunami.

She also “warned” that this “tsunami” of effects from the cuts, known as The Sequester, could come at any time – even at a time when Congress is not in session.

“It may come at a moment — when we are away on work recess, or when the speaker has sent us home and we’re not here working. And all of a sudden a great percentage of America will be walking around without benefits, without childcare, without teachers in our schools, and we’ll ask the question ‘What happened?’” she said.

“It was the tsunami of the sequester,” she added.

(NBC News) — If members of Congress want to be there to greet President Obama as he walks down the aisle of the House chamber for his State of the Union address tonight, they’re going to have to save their seats now.

There are currently four members holding their aisle seats for the State of the Union address later today, more than nine hours before the speech is scheduled to take place.

Those members (at the moment): Reps. Al Green (D-TX), Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), and Barbara Lee (D-CA).

But while Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) said on MSNBC Tuesday that members can just leave items in a chair and claim it later, according to a note sent to members from the speaker’s office this morning, if a member wants the seat, they have to stay in it the entire time.

This seat saving sounds do elementary school, but we are talking about democrats.

(The Hill) — Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Friday strongly suggested that members of Congress are making it difficult for President Obama to raise the debt ceiling because of his race.

“I do not understand what I think is the maligning and maliciousness [toward] this president,” said Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Why is he different? And in my community, that is the question that we raise. In the minority community that is question that is being raised. Why is this president being treated so disrespectfully? Why has the debt limit been raised 60 times? Why did the leader of the Senate continually talk about his job is to bring the president down to make sure he is unelected?”

Earlier in her speech, Jackson Lee said Obama has been targeted unlike any other president.

For some, a job in Jackson Lee's office proved not just emotionally but physically perilous. One staffer recalls a frank conversation with his doctor, who told him he needed to quit. "It's your life or your job," the doctor told him, warning that the stress and long hours were wreaking havoc on his body.

Only a few on staff fought back. One of Jackson Lee's drivers became so frustrated with her abuse the person pulled the car over and demand she stop: "She's screaming and swearing. 'M.F.' everything. Finally I slammed on the brakes and told her to get the hell out of my car. I'm like 'I can't drive with you like this. Either get out, or you can calm down.' And she's like 'you need to go or get fired.' I'm like, 'that's fine. But I'm either leaving without you or you can calm down,'" the staffer said.

Jackson Lee then threatened to call the police and claim she was being held hostage in the car. But she finally did calm down when the staffer called her bluff, offering to flag down a Capitol Police officer to explain the situation.

Demo Congresswoman Upset by Super Bowl Pepsi Commercial

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee thinks it is demeaning to black women for a black man to look at a white woman or something.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) took to the House floor Tuesday night to criticize what she called a "demeaning" Pepsi ad that aired during the Super Bowl.

In the ad for Pepsi Max, a black woman sitting on a park bench gets angry with her husband after an attractive, white female jogger sits down next to the couple and smiles and waves at the man.

After the man smiles back, his girlfriend or wife gets angry and whips her Pepsi Max can at him. The man ducks, and the can hits the attractive jogger in the head. The ad is titled "Love hurts."
