House votes unanimously to restore death benefits for fallen soldiers that Obama administration stopped...

Obama should be impeached for this outrage. Stopping the death benefits to families of fallen soldiers isn't the place to play politics.

Via The Hill:
The House voted unanimously on Wednesday to restore the financial payments the Department of Defense makes to the families of fallen U.S. soldiers.
Members easily passed the bill after the Pentagon said it can no longer make the payments because of the government shutdown. The Honoring the Families of Fallen Soldiers Act, H.J.Res. 91, was approved in a 425-0 vote.
The bipartisan bill was quickly developed and rushed to the floor this week after the Pentagon said it could no longer make “death gratuity” payments to families after October 1 because of the government shutdown.

Obama proposes military families and retirees pay more for health benefits; leaves overpaid unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits alone

Shameful...

Via Washington Free Beacon:
The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.

The disparity in treatment between civilian and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention.

The proposed increases in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by Congress, are part of the Pentagon’s $487 billion cut in spending. It seeks to save $1.8 billion from the Tricare medical system in the fiscal 2013 budget, and $12.9 billion by 2017.
A message for Military Families: Republicans wouldn't do this...

President Obama's goal to make us all dependent on the government is reaching a tipping point

Almost half of Americans now live in households that receive government benefits and pay no income tax.
(WSJ) — Families were more dependent on government programs than ever last year.
Nearly half, 48.5%, of the population lived in a household that received some type of government benefit in the first quarter of 2010, according to Census data. Those numbers have risen since the middle of the recession when 44.4% lived households receiving benefits in the third quarter of 2008.
The share of people relying on government benefits has reached a historic high, in large part from the deep recession and meager recovery, but also because of the expansion of government programs over the years.
Means-tested programs, designed to help the needy, accounted for the largest share of recipients last year. Some 34.2% of Americans lived in a household that received benefits such as food stamps, subsidized housing, cash welfare or Medicaid (the federal-state health care program for the poor).
Another 14.5% lived in homes where someone was on Medicare (the health care program for the elderly). Nearly 16% lived in households receiving Social Security.
High unemployment and increased reliance on government programs has also shrunk the nation’s share of taxpayers. Some 46.4% of households will pay no federal income tax this year, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. That’s up from 39.9% in 2007, the year the recession began.

Obama Attempts To Expand The Deficit By Expanding Employee Benefits To Same Sex Partners

Many private businesses provide employee benefits for same sex partners as a business decision. Companies use benefits to recruit and retain qualified employees. President Obama had the federal government expand benefits to same sex partners last year. Now, he is expanding those benefits again. It is difficult to understand why President Obama is making this change now, unless he is pandering to his 'gay' base. Federal employees already make more than their private sector counterparts. Surely, with unemployment at 9.9%, the government isn't having trouble recruiting. Any expansion of employee benefits has a cost. With deficits at record levels, this seems a poor time to expand benefits just to pander to a small voter segment.

WaPo
reported:
President Obama extended Wednesday a wider range of benefits to the same-sex partners of eligible federal workers, including access to medical treatment, relocation assistance, credit unions and fitness centers.

The move goes beyond a memo Obama signed last June...

Seniors will have to give up some Medicare benefits for Obamacare to work?

Seniors will have to give up some Medicare benefits for Obamacare to work? That is what Democratic Representative Betsy Markey of Colorado has said repeatedly during the August break.

From the Coloradoan:
Some people, including Medicare recipients, will have to give up some current benefits to truly reform the nation's health-care system, Rep. Betsy Markey told a gathering of constituents in Fort Collins on Wednesday.

Markey has repeatedly said during the August congressional recess that Medicare spending needs to be reined in to help pay for reforming the broader health-care system.

"There's going to be some people who are going to have to give up some things, honestly, for all of this to work," Markey said at a Congress on Your Corner event at CSU. "But we have to do this because we're Americans."

From the size of this crowd outside Rep. Markey's office, I am not sure she is in tune with her constituents.
