Rasmussen: 69% Of Americans Oppose Higher Taxes To Lower Deficit

President Obama has formed a 'Debt Commission' to propose ideas for reducing the deficit. Most of the buzz around this commission has been about the possibility of new taxes. A VAT tax or national sales tax are ideas getting the most play. A new Rasmussen survey has found sixty-nine percent (69%) of Americans are unwilling to pay higher taxes to reduce the deficit. Americans don't feel under-taxed. They want the massive spending spree in Washington to end. Spending reductions anyone?

Only 18% of Americans are willing to pay higher taxes to lower the federal budget deficit, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey...

Many Standish Residents Don't Want Gitmo Terrorists In Their Town

Although Standish, Michigan is a town on the edge of bankruptcy, many residents are opposing the bid by their local leaders to use a mostly closed local prison to house terrorists from Guantanamo Bay.

A sign jutting from an open patch of ground is the first clue to the business of Standish: "Prison area. Do not pick up hitchhikers."

Further along the road into the small, isolated Michigan town, a 16ft-high chain link fence topped with razor wire glistens...

Michael Moore Threatens Democrats Opposed to Obamacare

Michael Moore threatened democrats who are not fully supporting Obamacare at a meeting of woman's groups and unions. Moore put blue dogs and other democrats cool to Obama's health care reform plan on notice he had every intention of removing them from Congress in the next election.

Controversial liberal filmmaker Michael Moore on Tuesday issued a warning to Democrats who have been cool to President Barack Obama’s call for meaningful health care reform: Get on board or prepare to lose your seat.

“To the Democrats in Congress who don’t quite get it: I want to offer a personal pledge. I – and a lot of other people – have every intention of removing you from Congress in the next election if you stand in the way of health care legislation that the people want,” Moore told supporters of women’s groups and unions gathered at the headquarters of the government watchdog group Public Citizen. “That is not a hollow or idle threat. We will come to your district and we will work against you, first in the primary and, if we have to, in the general election.”

Fifty-seven Percent (57%) now oppose the war in Afghanistan. The biggest change has come from Democrats. Almost three quarters of Democrats now oppose the war. Perhaps Americans sense a lack of commitment from President Obama. Shadow Government had this to say, "There are few things more toxic for effective civil-military relations in wartime than the military believing that their political commanders are not serious about seeing the conflict through to a successful conclusion."

Fifty-seven percent of Americans questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say they oppose the U.S. war in Afghanistan, with 42 percent supporting the military mission. The percentage of those in opposition to the war is up 11 points since April, and is the highest ever in CNN polling since the launch of the U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan soon after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

The poll indicates that opposition to the war is coming mainly from Democrats and independents.
