Is Trump getting ready to fill Guantanamo back up?

Giddy up...

Via Daily Caller:
The White House is finishing an executive order that would instruct the Pentagon to send Islamic State detainees to Guantanamo Bay.
The Obama administration notably refused to send ISIS fighters captured in the fight to the detention facility, but for President Donald Trump, it’s imperative to take high-level radical Islamic terrorists out of the fight, The New York Times reports.
For some, the order could function as a de facto tripwire because it could allow federal judges to rule on whether the war against ISIS is actually legal, since Congress has declined to offer any explicit authorization. Instead, the Obama administration has relied on war authorization granted in 2001, saying that the fight against ISIS is just a continuation of the fight against al-Qaida and the Taliban.

Freed Guantanamo Bay detainees demanding U.S. taxpayers send them some money...

Oh Hell no.

Via Stars and Stripes
Four freed Guantanamo Bay detainees protested in front of the U.S. Embassy on Friday night, saying they were angry about being asked to leave a Uruguayan hotel that had been housing them and demanding Washington help them financially.
Adel bin Muhammad El Ouerghi said he had been asked to leave the Metro hotel, a budget inn where he and some of the other five former detainees periodically stayed.
The four Syrians, one Tunisian and one Palestinian have been housed in a four-bedroom house in Uruguay’s capital since the government took them in after their release in December. But “we are too many to stay in the house,” said El Ouerghi, who spent much of the last few months at the hotel. Keep on reading...

Not Only is Obama not closing Gitmo, he is spending millions on soccer fields and “enriching your life” classes for detainees

I support leaving Gitmo open, but spending millions on soccer fields and “enriching your life” classes is asinine.
GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba -- The U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba, targeted for closure by Barack Obama during his campaign for the presidency, is instead quietly undergoing millions of dollars of upgrades that could allow it to remain open for years as a prison for suspected terrorists, NBC News has learned.

Among the recent improvements to the facility commonly known as “Gitmo”: a heavily guarded soccer field for detainees known as “Super Rec,” which cost nearly $750,000 and opened this week; cable television in a communal living quarters and “enriching your life” classes for detainees, which include instruction on learning to paint, writing a resume -- even handling personal finances.

“Well, that's one class, but it’s not a popular (one),” Army Col. Donnie Thomas, commander of the military guards at camp, said with a laugh. “But it’s a class. It’s just to keep these guys busy.”

Obama Gives Huge Boost to Terrorist Recruitment

Inside Gitmo: The True Story Behind the Myths of Guantanamo Bay

President Barack Obama, May 21, 2009:
In our constitutional system, prolonged detention should not be the decision of any one man.
Candidate Barack Obama Jun 16 2008:
And it is my firm belief that we can track terrorists, we can crack down on threats against the United States, but we can do so within the constraints of our Constitution. And there has been no evidence on their part that we can't.

And, you know, let's take the example of Guantanamo. What we know is that, in previous terrorist attacks -- for example, the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in U.S. prisons, incapacitated.

And the fact that the administration has not tried to do that has created a situation where not only have we never actually put many of these folks on trial, but we have destroyed our credibility when it comes to rule of law all around the world, and given a huge boost to terrorist recruitment in countries that say, "Look, this is how the United States treats Muslims."
President Obama has signed an executive order(one man decision) to indefinitely detain suspected terrorists at Gitmo. If candidate Obama was correct, he has just given a huge boost to terrorist recruitment worldwide.
(WaPo)- President Obama signed an executive order Monday that will create a formal system of indefinite detention for those held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who continue to pose a significant threat to national security. The administration also said it will start new military commission trials for detainees there.

Delusional: Obama still strongly supports U.S. civilian trials of Guantanamo detainees

25-pack Terrorist Targets
President Obama couldn't get approval for U.S. civilian trials of Guantanamo detainees when Democrats controlled both Houses of Congress. Americans don't want these terrorists brought to their cities and towns.
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama forcefully declared his support Friday for U.S. civilian trials of Guantanamo detainees, pledging to overturn language in a sweeping defense bill that would effectively block such trials from happening anytime soon.

“The prosecution of terrorists in federal court is a powerful tool in our efforts to protect the nation and must be among the options available to us,” the president said. “Any attempt to deprive the executive branch of that tool undermines our nation’s counterterrorism efforts and has the potential to harm our national security.

Obama's Secret Plan to Close Gitmo

Inside Gitmo: The True Story Behind the Myths of Guantanamo Bay
President Obama may try to close Guantanamo bay by bypassing Congress and issuing a signing statement asserting executive powers.

WASHINGTONPresident Obama’s legal advisers, confronting the prospect of new restrictions on the transfer of Guantánamo detainees, are debating whether to recommend that he issue a signing statement asserting that his executive powers would allow him to bypass the restrictions, according to several officials.

If Mr. Obama were to issue such a statement, it could represent a more aggressive use of unilateral executive powers than what he exerted in his first two years in office. The issue has arisen as the Republican Party takes control of the House.

WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Regrets Terrorists Will Be Held Indefinitely

Inside Gitmo: The True Story Behind the Myths of Guantanamo Bay
Perhaps there is an empty house on Gibbs street.
(Politico)White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday that it was unfortunate that some terrorist suspects at Guantanamo Bay need to be held indefinitely without trial.

“Some would be tried in federal courts, as we’ve seen done in the past. Some would be tried in military commissions, likely spending the rest of their lives in a maximum security prison that nobody, including terrorists, have ever escaped from. Some, regrettably, will have to be indefinitely detained,” Gibbs said on CNN’s “State of the Union” as he described Obama’s beleaguered plan for closing Guantanamo.

Gitmo isn't closing and Khalid Sheik Mohammed isn't coming to the U.S for trial

President Obama has broken many of his campaign promises. For instance, he promised to never raise taxes on Americans making less than $200,000 a year or $250,000 for couples. He has broken that promise multiple times. He broke it the first time when he raised federal taxes on cigarettes. Obama broke that promise several times in the Obamamcare health care bill. Taxes were raised on tanning, medical devices and so-called Cadillac health plans. If an extension of the Bush tax cuts isn't passed by year end, middle-class taxpayers face a gargantuan tax hike at the first of the year. Also, Obama's debt commission has suggested a trillion dollars in new taxes.

One campaign promise I can live with President Obama breaking is the promise to close Guantanamo and reject the Military Commission Act. There was little chance of Obama closing Gitmo before this last election. That slim chance has died. Also, President Obama may be forced to reopen the Military commissions or indefinitely hold terrorists without trial.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, will probably remain in military detention without trial for the foreseeable future, according to Obama administration officials.

The administration has concluded that it cannot put Mohammed on trial in federal court because of the opposition of lawmakers in Congress and in New York. There is also little internal support for resurrecting a military prosecution at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The latter option would alienate liberal supporters.

Outrage: Gitmo Terrorists Get Gold-Plated Treatment

The remaining detainees at Guantanamo Bay are very bad men who were captured on the battlefield trying to kill Americans. These are some of the terrorist leaders who helped plot 9/11 and other attacks on America. So how are they being treated? After reading the mainstream media, your are probably envisioning them caged like animals when they are being water-boarded. The truth is far different. Very few were ever subjected to water-boarding or other enhanced interrogation techniques. As for their current treatment, they play soccer, have satellite televisions, have access to TIVO, dine on expensive exotic Middle Eastern meals and get the same medical and dental care as their guards. President Obama ordered Gitmo closed, but he has failed implement that plan. Most Americans don't want terrorists brought to American soil and their is little chance Obama will be able to keep his promise to close Gitmo. Americans aren't the only who will be happy if Gitmo stays open. The detainees don't want to be moved to a real prison.

WaPo reported:
Yesterday’s Post story on the cost of Guantanamo detailed how many U.S. tax dollars had been invested in the naval base. When I traveled to Guantanamo last September, I also saw a lot of money being spent — mostly to improve conditions for detainees who were supposedly leaving in a few months.

Visiting Camp 4, I saw bulldozers lined up for a construction project. The officer in charge explained they were preparing to bulldoze away the gravel in the exercise yard and replace it with sand....

It Is Unanimous. Gitmo Is Not Closing.

The House Armed Services Committee has voted unanimously to refuse any funding for construction or modification of any facility in the U.S. to detain or imprison individuals currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. This looks like it may be the end for President Obama's inaugural day speech promise to close Gitmo. He had promised to do it last year, but is now several months behind schedule.

The Politico
reported:
President Barack Obama’s hopes of closing the Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects is slipping further away..

“The committee firmly believes that the construction or modification of any facility in the U.S. to detain or imprison individuals currently being held at Guantanamo must be accompanied by a thorough and comprehensive plan that outlines the merits, costs and risks associated with utilizing such a facility. No such plan has been presented to date,” according to a summary released by the House Armed Services Committee.

Khalid Sheik Mohammed Trial Moving Back to GITMO?

Objections of New York's Mayor, citizens and many Congressmen have changes the administration's position about conducting the trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and other terrorists in New York City. Reportedly, the trials may be moved back to military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay.

The NY Post Reported:
The trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed won't be held in lower Manhattan and could take place in a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay, sources said last night.

Shocker! Terrorists May Sue to Stay in Gitmo!

Hilarious! After years of liberals complaining about horrid treatment of detainees and trying to force the closure of the Guantánamo Bay detention facility, the terrorists housed there are likely to file legal action to stay. This tidbit buried in a blog by Newsweek's ace reporter Michael Isikoff must really steam liberals. Isikoff quotes the terrorists attorney.

Falkoff notes that many of his clients, while they clearly want to go home, are at least being held under Geneva Convention conditions in Guantánamo. At Thomson, he notes, the plans call for them to be thrown into the equivalent of a "supermax" security prison under near-lockdown conditions.

"As far as our clients are concerned, it's probably preferable for them to remain at Guantánamo," he says.

Terrorists prefer sunny Gitmo and Geneva Convention treatment to a cold and dreary Supermax prison.

Leaked: Gtimo Terrorists To be moved To Illinois

Big Government is reporting Gtimo Terrorists are to be moved to Illinois.
The Land of Lincoln may still be licking its wounds–and certain real estate transactions–over Chicago’s losing the Olympics to Rio, but the Obama Administration has delivered up a small consolation prize: the state’s very own federal prison for terrorists. Big Government has received what is claimed to be a leaked DOJ memo that was allegedly sent yesterday from Eric Holder’s Department of Justice to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Memo below:

Many Standish Residents Don't Want Gitmo Terrorists In Their Town

Although Standish, Michigan is a town on the edge of bankruptcy, many residents are opposing the bid by their local leaders to use a mostly closed local prison to house terrorists from Guantanamo Bay.
A sign jutting from an open patch of ground is the first clue to the business of Standish: "Prison area. Do not pick up hitchhikers."

Further along the road into the small, isolated Michigan town, a 16ft-high chain link fence topped with razor wire glistens...

"No Gitmo" say their signs.

75% Worried About Gitmo Closing

A new Rasmussen poll has found fifty-five percent of Americans now oppose closing the Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention center. Support has been dwindling since President Obama announced the plan. Most Americans don't want a terrorist moving in next door.

From Rasmussen:
Seventy-five percent (75%) of U.S. voters are at least somewhat concerned that dangerous terrorists will be set free if the Guantanamo prison camp is closed and some prisoners are transferred to other countries. Fifty-six percent (56%) are very concerned.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 24% are not concerned about the potential danger.

Support for the president’ s plan to close the prison camp for suspected terrorists at the Guantanamo Naval Base in Cuba continues to erode. It’s been steadily dropping since Obama announced the camp closure just after taking office in January. Only 32% of voters now favor closing the prison camp, down six points from May and down 12 points since the President announced his decision in January.

Fifty-five percent (55%) now oppose closing the prison, with 13% not sure. In January, just after the president announced his decision, just 42% were opposed.

Obama's team is now unsure if Gitmo is closing in January

It was obvious to most American's that Guantanamo Bay was not going to close in January. The remaining terrorists at Gitmo are very dangerous. No other country wants them and Americans won't tolerate terrorists moved into their neighborhoods.

From the Wall Street Journal:
WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration's counterterrorism chief appeared to provide the first indication the administration may not make its January deadline for closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay in remarks Thursday that aimed to outline a new path for combating terrorism.

Answering questions after his speech at the Washington think tank, Mr. Brennan said, "I don't have a crystal ball that I can say with certainty" that the prison at Guantanamo Bay will be closed on time.

Protests in Bermuda against transfer of Uighurs

The citizens of Bermuda are protesting the transfer of four Chinese Uighurs from Guantanamo Bay to Bermuda. They are calling on Premier Ewart Brown. The decision to bring four Guantanamo detainees to Bermuda was made without consulting with the Governor or the UK Government.

The Royal Gazette reported:
Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Cabinet building this afternoon to call for the Premier to step down following his decision to bring four Guantanamo detainees to Bermuda without consulting with the Governor or the UK Government.

The huge crowd first heard speeches by rally organisers outside Sessions House demanding Dr. Ewart Brown’s resignation, before marching en masse to the Cabinet lawn.

Obama Releases US Diplomat's Murder From Gitmo

Friday, The Obama administration released Ahmed Zuhair from Guanatanamo Bay’s prison. He will be sent to Saudi Arabia and allegedly rehabilitated. Ahmed Zuhairwas involved in the murder of a US citizen working for the UN in Bosnia in 1995. Hot Air reported:
Yesterday, the Obama administration announced that it had released Ahmed Zuhair from Guanatanamo Bay’s prison and transferred him to Saudi Arabia’s terrorist rehabilitation program. The Los Angeles Times informs its readers why exactly we held Zuhair at Gitmo for as long as we did. Zuhair was involved in the murder of an American working for the UN in Bosnia in 1995:

The detainees were sent back to Saudi Arabia, their home country, where officials will review their cases before sending them to a rehabilitation program. One of them was identified as Ahmed Zuhair, a relatively high profile detainee who, has been protesting his detention since 2005 through a hunger strike and has been force-fed liquid nutrients.

During a hearing in Guantanamo in October 2004, Zuhair was accused of involvement in the 1995 killing in Bosnia-Herzegovina of William Jefferson, a U.S. official with the United Nations. At the tribunal, U.S. officials said Jefferson’s watch was found on Zuhair.

Zuhair also was convicted in absentia by a Bosnian court in a 1997 car bombing in the town of Mostar. He also allegedly told another detainee he was involved in the bombing of the U.S. destroyer Cole in 2000, according to evidence presented at a Guantanamo proceeding.

Obama wants to send Gitmo terrorists to Australia

I seriously doubt Australia will be putting any shrimp on the barbie for these terrorists anytime soon. They have previously turned down a Bush administration request to take some of them. President Obama has come to the realization that bringing any of them here is political suicide, but he boxed himself into a corner by promising his left wing supporters he would close Guantanamo Bay by next January. Make some popcorn. This could get interesting. Reuters is reporting:
SYDNEY (Reuters) - The United States has made a new request for Australia to accept a group of detainees from Guantanamo Bay for resettlement, a government spokeswoman said on Saturday.

The request is the first by President Barack Obama's administration, which plans to close down the detention camp in Cuba within the next year.

Media reports have said the request involves a group of Uighurs from China's largely Muslim western province of Xinjiang. Beijing has reportedly been pressing Washington to return them to China, but U.S. officials have expressed concerns about their likely treatment there.

Earlier requests for resettlement in Australia late last year by former president George W. Bush's administration were turned down by Canberra in January on "national security and immigration" grounds.

A spokeswoman for Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith confirmed the new request had been received.
