Delusional: Obama still strongly supports U.S. civilian trials of Guantanamo detainees

25-pack Terrorist Targets
President Obama couldn't get approval for U.S. civilian trials of Guantanamo detainees when Democrats controlled both Houses of Congress. Americans don't want these terrorists brought to their cities and towns.
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama forcefully declared his support Friday for U.S. civilian trials of Guantanamo detainees, pledging to overturn language in a sweeping defense bill that would effectively block such trials from happening anytime soon.

“The prosecution of terrorists in federal court is a powerful tool in our efforts to protect the nation and must be among the options available to us,” the president said. “Any attempt to deprive the executive branch of that tool undermines our nation’s counterterrorism efforts and has the potential to harm our national security.

Insanity: Obama's DOJ Still Committed to Civilian Terrorists Trials After Ghailani Failure

Albert Einstein said it best...

Albert Einstein Quote:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The LA Times reported:
The Obama administration remains committed to trying more terrorism suspects in civilian court even though a federal jury acquitted a Tanzanian of all but one charge in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings, senior Justice Department officials said Thursday.

Alleged Al Qaeda accomplice Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, the first Guantanamo Bay prisoner to be tried in civilian court, was convicted Wednesday of one count of conspiracy to damage or destroy U.S. property but cleared of 284 counts of murder and attempted murder.

Gitmo isn't closing and Khalid Sheik Mohammed isn't coming to the U.S for trial

President Obama has broken many of his campaign promises. For instance, he promised to never raise taxes on Americans making less than $200,000 a year or $250,000 for couples. He has broken that promise multiple times. He broke it the first time when he raised federal taxes on cigarettes. Obama broke that promise several times in the Obamamcare health care bill. Taxes were raised on tanning, medical devices and so-called Cadillac health plans. If an extension of the Bush tax cuts isn't passed by year end, middle-class taxpayers face a gargantuan tax hike at the first of the year. Also, Obama's debt commission has suggested a trillion dollars in new taxes.

One campaign promise I can live with President Obama breaking is the promise to close Guantanamo and reject the Military Commission Act. There was little chance of Obama closing Gitmo before this last election. That slim chance has died. Also, President Obama may be forced to reopen the Military commissions or indefinitely hold terrorists without trial.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, will probably remain in military detention without trial for the foreseeable future, according to Obama administration officials.

The administration has concluded that it cannot put Mohammed on trial in federal court because of the opposition of lawmakers in Congress and in New York. There is also little internal support for resurrecting a military prosecution at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The latter option would alienate liberal supporters.

If Eric Holder Was Counting On German Evidence To Try KSM, He Is Out of Luck

Germany is refusing to allow any evidence they gathered against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his co-defendants. Germany will not participate in any trial where the defendant could receive the death penalty.

FOX News reported:
A German government official says the nation will send an observer to the upcoming trial in New York of the professed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and four accused henchmen.

Justice Ministry spokeswoman Katharina Jahntz on Saturday confirmed a report in Der Spiegel that a German observer would attend the trial to ensure that no evidence provided by Germany would be used to apply the death penalty.

Three of the four suicide pilots who carried out the attacks had lived and studied in the northern German city of Hamburg. Germany, like the rest of Europe, except for Belarus, does not execute criminals.

Kruathammer slams the decision to give Khalid Shaikh Mohammed the rights of an American citizen (video)

Charles Kruathammer is at his best in the video embedded below. He eviscerates President Obama's and AG Eric Holder's decision to give the terrorists responsible for 9-11 the same rights as American citizens.
“I’m not sure that FDR, or Lincoln, or any of our war presidents, or Johnson, or Kennedy would take a combatant and give him the constitutional rights of an American citizen and give him a trial in civilian court. That doesn’t happen.”

Kruathammer: Giving KSM the rights of an American Citizen is Unconscionable

Allahpundit had this:
“Contrary to liberal myth, military tribunals aren’t a break with 200-plus years of American jurisprudence. Eight Nazis who snuck into the U.S. in June 1942 were tried by a similar court and most were hanged within two months. Before the Obama Administration stopped all proceedings earlier this year pending yesterday’s decision, the tribunals at Gitmo had earned a reputation for fairness and independence…"

Loony left very disappointed in Obama tribunal decision(video)

Candidate Barack Obama severely criticized president Bush for using military tribunals to try terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay. On President Obama's first day in office, he suspended the tribunals. Now, he has decided to use the same military tribunals he criticized President Bush for during the 2008 campaign. His backers on the Loony left are very angry.

Tribunal decision angers Obama's liberal backers

Many of President Barack Obama's most ardent liberal supporters are angry over his decision to restart military tribunals. The AP's Julie Pace looks at the rough week for liberals.

Obama wants to restart the military tribunals he criticized Bush for

Candidate Barack Obama said he wanted to have U.S. trials for prosecuting Guantánamo detainees. On his first day in office President Obama suspended those trials. Now that he has had time to think about it, he wants to revive the military commissions. The New York Times is reporting:
The Obama administration is moving toward reviving the military commission system for prosecuting Guantánamo detainees, which was a target of critics during the Bush administration, including Mr. Obama himself.(video via YouTube)

Obama Wants Gitmo Trials Delayed

Military judges will consider Wednesday whether to halt the Guantanamo war crimes trials after President Barack Obama ordered prosecutors to request a 120-day suspension during a review of the system used to try suspected terrorists. (Jan. 21)
