Facebook to censor news feed based on liberal fact checking sites. What could go wrong?

You mean fake like the polling and predictions of a Hillary Clinton landslide?

Via BI:
To combat fake news, Facebook has partnered with a shortlist of media organizations, including Snopes and ABC News, that are part of an international fact-checking network lead by Poynter, a nonprofit school for journalism located in St. Petersburg, Florida.
...Of the 42 news organizations that have committed to Poynter's fact-checking code of ethics, Facebook is starting out with the following four: Snopes, Factcheck.org, ABC News, PolitiFact.

Person in charge of Facebook trending topics is a max Clinton donor...

Least shocking story of the week...

Via Free Beacon:
The person in charge of Facebook’s Trending Topics section, which has come under fire in recent days over accusations that the social media platform deliberately suppressed news articles that were published on conservative websites, is a maximum donor to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Tom Stocky, Facebook’s vice president of product management, issued a response to the report that was first published by Gizmodo by claiming that he has not found any evidence that the accusations within the report are true.
“My team is responsible for Trending Topics, and I want to address today’s reports alleging that Facebook contractors manipulated Trending Topics to suppress stories of interest to conservatives,” Stocky said in a Facebook post. “We take these reports extremely seriously, and have found no evidence that the anonymous allegations are true.”

Turkey seems to be blocking Twitter and Facebook after peace rally bombing kills over 80 people...

Another one of Obama's favorite Muslim leaders...

Via BGN News:
Access to social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have been slowed down to a trickle in the wake of a deadly dual suicide bombing at a peace rally in Ankara that killed at least 86 and injured 186. Regular access is only available via Virtual Private Network (VPN).

No official explanation has been given as to why Twitter or Facebook are inaccessible, however Ankara has in the past resorted to blocking or slowing down access to social media platforms when faced with security crises or unfavorable coverage.

IT expert Füsun Sarp Nebil explains that it was a common tactic for the Telecommunications Directorate (TİB) to restrict access to the sites through internet service providers, slowing down access the same way one may reduce a tap.

“To put it plainly, those in control of the tap are turning it down,” she said, “After all there is nobody who knows, or cares, or is aware of what is going on. This is a matter of ‘Net Neutrality.’ Before there were violations of net neutrality for commercial considerations, but in countries like ours it’s violated for political reasons.”

Facebook giving people in Africa free Internet; Poor US kids are still waiting...

I can't believe so many people are on Facebook. I read their privacy policy and hit the decline button.

Via CNN Money:
The social network is teaming up with the French satellite company Eutelsat (ETCMY) to launch a satellite that will provide internet access to people in sub-Saharan Africa. The satellite will launch next year and service will start in the second half of 2016. It will reach 14 countries in West, East and Southern Africa.
Facebook (FB, Tech30) will use the satellite to bring free Internet access to rural areas. The company is using satellites, lasers and drones to get the “next billion” people around the world online as part of its Internet.org initiative. It has already connected people in nearly 20 countries.

Facebook secretly tracks users after they have quit?

Make sure to delete your browser cookies.

Via The Independent:
A new report claims that Facebook secretly installs tracking cookies on users’ computers, allowing them to follow users around the internet even after they’ve left the website, deleted their account and requested to be no longer followed.
Academic researchers said that the report showed that the company was breaking European law with its tracking policies. The law requires that users are told if their computers are receiving cookies except for specific circumstances.
Facebook’s tracking — which it does so that it can tailor advertising — involves putting cookies or small pieces of software on users’ computers, so that they can then be followed around the internet. Such technology is used by almost every website, but European law requires that users are told if they are being given cookies or being tracked. Companies don’t have to tell users if the cookies are required to connect to a service or if they are needed to give the user information that they have specifically requested.
But Facebook’s tracking policy allows it to track users if they have simply been to a page on the company’s domain, even if they weren’t logged in. That includes pages for brands or events, which users can see whether or not they have an account.

Facebook Fail: Now censoring pictures of prophet Muhammad

They are already censoring Putin critics in Russia.

Via WaPo:
Only two weeks after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg released a strongly worded #JeSuisCharlie statement on the importance of free speech, Facebook has agreed to censor images of the prophet Muhammad in Turkey — including the very type of image that precipitated the Charlie Hebdo attack.
It’s an illustration, perhaps, of how extremely complicated and nuanced issues of online speech really are. It’s also conclusive proof of what many tech critics said of Zuckerberg’s free-speech declaration at the time: Sweeping promises are all well and good, but Facebook’s record doesn’t entirely back it up.
Just this December, Facebook agreed to censor the page of Russia’s leading Putin critic, Alexei Navalny, at the request of Russian Internet regulators.

Scary: Facebook is conducting phsych experiments on you...

Just another reason I am glad I am only on Twitter. I never could agree to Facebook's privacy policy.
Scientists at Facebook have published a paper showing that they manipulated the content seen by more than 600,000 users in an attempt to determine whether this would affect their emotional state. The paper, “Experimental evidence of massive-scale emotional contagion through social networks,” was published inThe Proceedings Of The National Academy Of Sciences. It shows how Facebook data scientists tweaked the algorithm that determines which posts appear on users’ news feeds—specifically, researchers skewed the number of positive or negative terms seen by randomly selected users. Facebook then analyzed the future postings of those users over the course of a week to see if people responded with increased positivity or negativity of their own, thus answering the question of whether emotional states can be transmitted across a social network. Result: They can!

Amusing: Iranian judge summons Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to appear in court

There is zero chance Mark Zuckerberg will show up.
Via The Hill:
An Iranian judge wants Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to appear in court and answer questions about privacy protections.
According to the Iranian ISNA news service, a judge in the southern Iranian province of Fars ordered the Silicon Valley titan to testify in response to complaints that Instagram and WhatsApp, both of which Facebook owns, violated people’s privacy.
An official with the paramilitary volunteer force Basij, seeming to speak on behalf of the court, referred to Zuckerberg as “the Zionist manager of Facebook” and ordered him to appear in court “to defend himself and make compensation for damages,” according to a translation from Agence France-Presse.

Using Facebook makes you feel worse...

I am not on Facebook for privacy and drama reasons. You can connect with me on Twitter.
ANN ARBOR, MI (CBS) A new study shows that Facebook may help people feel connected, but it doesn’t make them any happier.
In fact, according to the research, which was conducted by the University of Michigan, Facebook use actually predicts a decline in a person’s well-being.
The study used 82 young adults, all of whom had smartphones and Facebook accounts. The researchers then used experience-sampling to measure how the users think, felt and behaved by texting them at random times five days a week for two weeks. Each text contained a link to an online survey with five questions, including how the Facebook user felt at that moment, how worried he/she was and how lonely the user felt at that time.
The study concluded that the more the subjects used Facebook during one time period, the worse they felt.

Germany's top security official: Stop using Google and Facebook if you don't want U.S. to spy on you...

Obama supporters at Google and Facebook hardest hit...

Via The Daily Mail
If you are worried about the US spying on you, you need to stop using Google and Facebook, Germany's top security official has warned.

Internet users who fear their data is being intercepted by U.S. intelligence agencies such as the National Security Agency's should stay away from American websites run through American servers, Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said.

Leaked revelations about the NSA’s wholesale information on foreign web users has prompted outrage in Europe and calls for tighter international rules on data protection.

Leaks by Edward Snowden, a former NSA systems analyst, have revealed the NSA's sweeping data collection of U.S. phone records and some Internet traffic.

According to U.S. intelligence officials, the programs target foreigners and terrorist suspects mostly overseas.

Obama buddy and Facebook CEO Zuckerberg uses tax havens to avoid taxes...

Why are democrats and their supporters such hypocrites
Facebook channelled profits through a series of tax havens in order to pay just  £2.9m of corporation tax on more than £800m of overseas profits in 2011, it has been reported.
Like Google and Apple the social networking site is said to have used its headquarters in Ireland to avoid tax liabilities in the UK before directing earnings to a subsidiary in the Cayman Islands.

British companies that buy advertising on Facebook must do so via Facebook Ireland Ltd which entitles the company to sidestep HM Revenue and Customs and authorities in other higher-tax jurisdictions, reported the Sunday Times today.
When Obama did a townhall at Facebook's headquarters in California, Mark Zuckerberg can be heard saying he is cool with paying higher taxes...

Feel Good Story: Moron who flipped off Tomb of Unknown Soldier fired...

If you flip off the Tomb of Unknown Soldier and post the picture on Facebook, you are too stupid to have a job. My guess is this is an Obama voter...
While many of us take time out today to be thankful for all of our blessings, there’s at least one household with a bit less to be thankful for. It’s being reported that on the day before Thanksgiving, Lindsey Stone and one of her colleagues were fired from their jobs. In case you somehow missed the story, Lindsey is the woman who managed to exercise her right to free speech in a manner so incredibly offensive that people across the nation took to social media demanding she be fired from her job. If your love of civil liberties has you feeling sorry for her, you might want to hold back on defending her here.
Lindsey Stone, the Plymouth, Massachusetts woman who posted a photo of herself giving the middle finger in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, creating a firestorm of Internet backlash and outrage, was fired from her job Wednesday…
The photo, which has been taken down, was first posted last month on Stone’s personal Facebook page, and showed Stone giving the middle finger while pretending to yell next to a sign that read “Silence and Respect” at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Surprise: One third of U. K. divorce filings last year contained the word Facebook

This makes me happy I am not on Facebook.
More than a third of divorce filings last year contained the word Facebook, according to a U.K. survey by Divorce Online, a  legal services firm. And over 80% of U.S. divorce attorneys say they’ve seen a rise in the number of cases using social networking, according to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. “I see Facebook issues breaking up marriages all the time,” says Gary Traystman, a divorce attorney in New London, Conn. Of the 15 cases he handles per year where computer history, texts and emails are admitted as evidence, 60% exclusively involve Facebook.

“Affairs happen with a lightning speed on Facebook,” says K. Jason Krafsky, who authored the book “Facebook and Your Marriage” with his wife Kelli. In the real world, he says, office romances and out-of-town trysts can take months or even years to develop. “On Facebook,” he says, “they happen in just a few clicks.”

Is Big Sis and DHS tracking your Twitter and Facebook account?

They could be if you use words such as words such as ‘illegal immigrant’, ‘outbreak’, ‘drill’, ‘strain’, ‘virus’and ‘recovery.’
(Daily Mail) — The Department of Homeland Security makes fake Twitter and Facebook profiles for the specific purpose of scanning the networks for ‘sensitive’ words – and tracking people who use them.
Simply using a word or phrase from the DHS’s ‘watch’ list could mean that spies from the government read your posts, investigate your account, and attempt to identify you from it, acccording to an online privacy group.
The words which attract attention range from ones seemingly related to diseases or bioweapons such as ‘human to animal’ and ‘outbreak’ to other, more obscure words such as ‘drill’ and ‘strain’.
The DHS also watches for words such as ‘illegal immigrant’.
The DHS outlined plans to scans blogs, Twitter and Facebook for words such as ‘illegal immigrant’, ‘outbreak’, ‘drill’, ‘strain’, ‘virus’, ‘recovery’, ‘deaths’, ‘collapse’, ‘human to animal’ and ‘trojan’, according to an ‘impact asssessment’ document filed by the agency.

Eric Holder won't prosecute illegals for stealing social security numbers, but will prosecute people for using fake social network names

The duplicity of Eric Holders Justice Department is bizarre beyond belief. He won't prosecute illegals for identity theft, even though millions are using stolen names and social security numbers. However, if you lie about your name on  Facebook or your weight on Match.com, he wants to prosecute you under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
(CNET)- In a statement obtained by CNET that's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, the Justice Department argues that it must be able to prosecute violations of Web sites' often-ignored, always-unintelligible "terms of service" policies.

The law must allow "prosecutions based upon a violation of terms of service or similar contractual agreement with an employer or provider," Richard Downing, the Justice Department's deputy computer crime chief, will tell the U.S. Congress tomorrow.

Scaling back that law "would make it difficult or impossible to deter and address serious insider threats through prosecution," and jeopardize prosecutions involving identity theft, misuse of government databases, and privacy invasions, according to Downing.

The law in question, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act,...

Facebook Censored Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer Posting Critical of Obama

Facebook claimed it was an error after they were publicly busted. That claim is ridiculous. Everyone knows who Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is an Obama friend and supporter.

(550KFYI)- The Republican governor had said in a post Friday that Facebook censored the item she posted Thursday because it apparently violated Facebook's community standards.

Brewer didn't elaborate in her post, but she said Friday in an interview that an email she received from Facebook said the post was removed because of an included illustration.

The email, which she read aloud, didn't specify how the illustration violated standards.

"I'd like to know why it happens,'' she said of the removal.

Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes responded to a query by The Associated Press by saying in a brief email that Brewer's post was removed in error and that Facebook was sorry.

Noyes did not provide further details, including whether the removal of the post on Thursday resulted from complaints received from other Facebook users.

Brewer reposted the item Friday, saying the original post was ``censored'' by Facebook. Both versions included a statement in which she criticized the Obama policy decision and the illustration, a color drawing of Brewer in a Rosie the Riveter pose.
