Scary: Average price of gas hits new March high
The average gas price has never been this high in March. President Obama isn't worried about being blamed.
(ABC) — The average price of a gallon of regular is now $3.87, the highest recorded price in March. The average price is up nearly 4 cents from a week ago, and over 30 cents from a year ago, according to the Department of Energy, as more drivers face gas prices of $4 a gallon or more across the country.
Last week, the average gas price was $3.83 a gallon, the previous record according to data going back to 1990.
The West Coast was once again the most expensive region with an average gas price of $4.23, up almost 2 cents from last week, with an increase of over 37 cents from a year ago.
The least expensive was the Rocky Mountain region with $3.62 a gallon. That region had the highest increase from last week, 14 cents, while the average price there climbed almost 24 cents from a year ago.

2008 Obama Video: Dealing with higher energy costs is a sacrifice I expect Americans to make
Barack Obama has a message for you. Suck it up and pay higher energy prices. Well, that was in 2008. Now, president Obama wants to tap the 'Strategic Election Reserve.'

Liar-in-Chief: “I’m going to keep doing everything I can to help you save money on gas"
President Obama isn't building the Keystone Pipeline or drilling in Anwar.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is hitting back at Republican criticism of his energy policies and his role in controlling gasoline prices.
“I’m going to keep doing everything I can to help you save money on gas, both right now and in the future,” Obama said. “I hope politicians from both sides of the aisle join me.”
He accused Republicans of a “bumper sticker” approach to solving the nation’s energy problems.
It’s a familiar theme — Obama stuck many of the same chords during two out-of-town trips this week and during a White House news conference on Wednesday.

Flashback to 2008: Candidate Barack Obama nods in approval when man says he is happy about $4 a gallon gas (video)
From a June 2008 campaign stop in Wisconsin:
By a July campaign stop in Missouri, Candidate Obama had a plan to lower gas prices. He wanted us to air up our tires.
Candidate Obama's supporters didn't think high gas prices would be a problem. They thought Obama would buy their gas for them.
How is that 'Hope and Change' working out for you?

Obama doesn't have “silver bullet” for high gas prices, but he does like algae
Algae? Really? How about drilling for more oil and building a pipeline to bring in Canadian oil. We don't need a new miracle technology for those.
Via Beltway Confidential:
President Obama admitted today that he does not have a “silver bullet” solution for skyrocketing gas prices, but he proposed alternative energy sources such as “a plant-like substance, algae” as a way of cutting dependence on oil by 17 percent.
“We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance, algae — you’ve got a bunch of algae out here,” Obama said at the University of Miami today. “If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we’ll be doing alright. Believe it or not, we could replace up to 17 percent of the oil we import for transportation with this fuel that we can grow right here in America.”
The Department of Energy (DOE) currently spends about $85 million on 30 research projects “to develop algal biofuels,” according to the White House, which announced that Obama is committing another $14 million to the idea.

WH Spokesman Jay Carney Claims Obama has done everything he could to bring down the price of oil
I didn't think Carney was capable of this level of chutzpah. From drilling bans to the cancelled Keystone Pipeline project, President Obama has done many things to keep gas prices high.
Via Beltway Confidential:
President Obama does not “accept responsibility” for high gas prices, his spokesman indicated today, arguing that Obama has done everything he could to bring down the price of oil and blaming the high gas prices on oil price increases caused by global factors.
“The president accepts the responsibility that he identified the next president should accept, which is the need for comprehensive energy policy,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said today when asked if Obama “accept[s] responsibility” for the high price of oil and gas. “If you’re suggesting that there is responsibility for a rise in the price of oil, it’s certainly not because of anything he hasn’t done to expand oil production,” Carney added.

Obama says answer to high gasoline prices is to spend money developing renewable energy sources

There is a reason renewable energy is called "green". It costs a lot of money.
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says one answer to high gasoline prices is to spend money developing renewable energy sources.
“That’s the key to helping families at the pump and reducing our dependence on foreign oil” in the long term, he said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address.
Obama raises the issue of rising fuel prices during almost every public appearance and says that he understands the strain higher fuel costs are putting on some family budgets.
He announced Thursday during an event in Reno, Nev., that the Justice Department will begin looking for cases of fraud or manipulation in the oil markets, even though Attorney General Eric Holder suggested a variety of legal reasons may be behind the surging gas prices.
