Heartache: Arlen Specter claims Democrats double-crossed him

Karma...

According to The Hill:
Former Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) writes in a new book that President Obama ditched him in the 2010 election after he helped Obama win the biggest legislative victory of his term by passing healthcare reform.

Specter also claims that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) did not uphold his promise to grant him seniority accrued over 28 years of service in the Senate as a Republican. …

Specter laments that Obama and Vice President Joe Biden did not do more to help him in the final days of his primary race against former Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.), who beat him 54 percent to 46 percent in the 2010 Pennsylvania Senate Democratic primary.

Specter writes that Obama turned down a request to campaign with him in the final days of the primary because the president’s advisors feared he would look weak if he intervened and Specter lost. …

Arlen Specter Uses Final Floor Speech to Call Republicans Cannibals

Never Give In: Battling Cancer in the Senate
So long Arlen Specter. Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.
WASHINGTON (AP)Departing Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter on Tuesday said conservative Republicans who backed Tea Party challengers against establishment candidates in the recent elections engaged in political cannibalism.

In his final floor speech, Specter complained there’s scant room for centrists like himself in a polarized Senate where civility is in short supply...

“Eating or defeating your own is a form of sophisticated cannibalism,” he said.

Matthews: Specter's Like The Man Wearing A Dress Trying To Get On Titanic's Lifeboat (video)

Chris Matthews makes fun of Arlen Specter's changing parties in order to save his "keester." It couldn't happen to a more deserving individual.

Pennsylvania Voters Throw Arlen Specter On Ash Heap Of History

Image from Pennsylvania Dept. of State.

Former RINO Arlen Specter changed party affiliation to Democrat in a bid to avoid loosing the Republican primary. Now, he has lost the Democratic Primary. Arlen Specter has been handily defeated by Joe Sestak (54-46) in the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic primary. This is another rejection of a candidate President Obama campaigned for. Allegedly, the White House offered Joe Sestak an administration job to drop his primary bid against Specter.

Arlen Specter is Desperate: Uses Obama in Ad

Arlen Specter is truly desperate. He is running an ad featuring President Obama. Obama praises Specter for casting the deciding vote on the Stimulus bill. Sixty-two percent (62%) of American think the Stimulus was a failure. Oh, and Obama "loves" Arlen Specter. Specter will be lucky if Pennsylvania voters keep their dinner down after watching this video ad.

Arlen Specter's reelection bid is in trouble

Arlen Specter's reelection bid is in trouble. He is trailing 5 points behind the potential Republican contender and 52% of voters have an unfavorable assessment of the former GOP senator who became a Democrat in April.

Rasmussen reported:
Republican-turned-Democratic Senator Arlen Specter trails potential GOP challenger Pat Toomey by five points in an early look at Pennsylvania's 2010 Senate race. But another Democrat, Joe Sestak, runs dead-even with the likely Republican candidate.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Pennsylvania voters shows 45% would vote for Toomey if the election were held today. Forty percent (40%) would vote for Specter, while six percent (6%) prefer a third option. Nine percent (9%) are undecided.

Here is why Specter left the Republican Party.
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele cited political motivations for this move. "Let's be honest -- Sen. Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record."

Angry Crowd Jeers Specter at Town Hall

Turncoat Senator Arlen Specter had a health care town hall inside the Belmont Complex in East Franklin on Thursday afternoon. The crowd roared, "Read the bill!" and "We will be taxed!" One man accused Specters camp of rigging the questioning process to allow pro-ObamaCare supporters to ask the questions. Based on a recent straw poll of progressive online activists, Specter won't have to take this abuse much longer. They prefer Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) over Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) by a landslide margin for the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate nomination.

Senate Democrats Refuse To Give Specter Seniority

In a blow to Arlen Specter's chances to get re-elected in 2010, Democrats stripped him of his seniority on several key committees. This contradicts Specter's assertion last Tuesday when he told reporters that he would retain his seniority both in the overall chamber and in the committees on which he serves. Arlen Specter should have known you can't trust the current democratic leadership in Congress. Of course, the voters of Pennsylvania couldn't trust Arlen Specter either. The Washington Post is reporting:
The Senate dealt a blow tonight to Sen. Arlen Specter's hold on seniority in several key committees, a week after the Pennsylvanian's party switch placed Democrats on the precipice of a 60-seat majority.

In a unanimous voice vote, the Senate approved a resolution that added Specter to the Democratic side of the dais on the five committees on which he serves, an expected move that gives Democrats larger margins on key panels such as Judiciary and Appropriations.

But Democrats placed Specter in one of the two most junior slots on each of the five committees for the remainder of this Congress, which goes through December 2010. Democrats have suggested that they will consider revisiting Specter's seniority claim at the committee level only after the midterm elections next year.

Arlen Specter accuses Republicans of killing Jack Kemp

Republicans are breathing a sigh of relief that Arlen Specter switched to the Democratic party. Specter proved he is a complete idiot by hinting that Kemp died because of the GOP agenda. The Washington Times reported Specter said,
"Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn't want me as their candidate," Mr. Specter said on "Face the Nation." "But as a matter of principle, I'm becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach. And one of the items that I'm working on, Bob, is funding for medical research."

Mr. Specter continued: "If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today. And that research has saved or prolonged many lives, including mine."

RINO Arlen Specter shows his true color

GOP Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania has announced he will change parties and become a Democrat. He was one of three Republican senators who jumped ship and voted with President Obama on the Stimulus bill. Arlen Specter has long been disliked by many Republicans for being on the wrong side of many of Americas most important issues. There have been rumors for several months that he would betray the Republican voters of Pennsylvania and join the Democratic Party. Republican voters sent him to the Senate five times. They should work hard to retire him permanently in 2010. Fox news reported,
Veteran GOP Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania intends to announce Tuesday he will switch political parties and run in the Democratic primary in 2010.

Republican voters had sent him to the Senate five times. But faced with the prospect of a strong challenge from conservative Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and the state trending Democratic, Specter jumped ship.

"I deeply regret that I will be disappointing many friends and supporters," Specter said in prepared remarks to be delivered at a news conference on Tuesday.

"I can understand their disappointment," he continued. "I am also disappointed that so many in the party I have worked for for more than four decades do not want me to be their candidate. It is very painful on both sides."

The switch puts Democrats within one vote of a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Democrats currently hold 56 seats in the Senate, and two independents typically vote with the party. Republicans have 41 seats, and there is one vacancy.
Here is RNC Chairman Michael Steele's response,
"Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not. Let's be honest-Senator Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record. Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don't do it first."

Specter to vote against 'card check"

Arlen Specter said today he would vote against cloture on EFCA(card check.)This will make it very difficult to get the current bill through the Senate. Some moderate Democrats may oppose the bill too.
Specter delivers death blow to 'card check'

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) announced Tuesday he will oppose card check, giving an apparent death blow to the most important congressional issue to organized labor.

Specter made the dramatic announcement in a floor speech. His opposition means Democrats can count on a maximum of 59 votes to move the bill forward, one short of the 60 required to clear Senate rules.

Winning 59 votes would require Democrat Al Franken to beat Republican Norm Coleman in the still-contested Minnesota Senate race. Democrats also would have to count on holding the rest of their votes, and several centrists have raised doubts about the bill.(excerpt) read more at thehill.com
