Chris Matthews reacts to Democratic Senate candidates Michelle Nunn (D-GA) and Mark Begich (D-AK), an incumbent, dodging the question if they voted for Obama.
“That’s the way people walk past guys who are trying to get a buck or a quarter from somebody,” Matthews said describing the candidates ignoring the question from a tracker.
“It’s like Obama has Ebola,” Matthews said on Monday’s broadcast of Hardball on MSNBC. “I wasn’t near him! I didn’t touch him!”

CHRIS MATTHEWS: To everybody watching, this isn’t just about guns — is about guns. It is about this war in this country, that’s gotten more divided, more polarized. And it’s about symbols like telling you you can’t have certain kinds of gun. You need certain kinds of freedoms with your gun, like no background checks. Or that you have an African-American president.

… I don’t know if he’s burning books there or not. Let me tell you, Kasie [Hunt], it’s a lot that lays on your shoulders. I have to tell you this. I see a far bigger fight than over background checks and gun shows. It’s culture war. They don’t accept an African-American president or president of color who has some antecedence in Africa. No. It has to be us or him. And our guns or him. And everything is totemic; everything is iconic; everything’s fighting words. What was it feeling like down there? Didn’t they react when they hear this kind of talk?

MATTHEWS: These anti-government patriot groups have skyrocketed in number during President Obama’s time in office. There only 149 groups back in 2008 and 2012. There are more than 1300 and that’s an increase of over 800 percent. Look at the chart there. Yesterday the Southern Poverty Law Center sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Attorney General Eric Holder warning that the gun control debate may lead to even more such groups being founded.  Mark Potok is a respected guy for us. He’s with the Southern Poverty Law Center. And Brian Levin is with the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino.

Gentlemen, I want you to start tonight. It’s your report Mark. So lead the way here. Let me ask you this. I’m gonna get into this in my close tonight on the show, which I feel a lot. I Look at Obama as a perfect American. I don’t mean politically. We can disagree left and right on him. You can argue about the drones. Argue about the fiscal policy, all that stuff. But as a citizen. The guy went to school, he never broke a law. He did everything right. He raised a wonderful family. He’s a good husband, a good father. My God I don’t think he’s ever gotten a speeding ticket. The guy does everything right and these right-wingers. And he’s really been pretty moderate on guns until the horror of Newtown. And I don’t know what they’re so afraid of, except that he happens to be black. Is there some reason why he has sparked this explosion of right-wing organizing?

Hillary Clinton today regarding her role in the September 11, 2012, attack on an American consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Matthews called Johnson a “pissant” due to his harsh line of questioning and said that Johnson is only in the Senate due to a low turnout election in 2010. “He doesn’t represent anybody,” Matthews scoffed. He suggested that he thinks off-year and midterm elections should be abolished, forcing all lawmakers to run on a national ticket. [...]

Moments after the former Massachusetts governor finished his Thursday night speech at the Republican National Convention, Matthews slammed the supposedly “very dark, very jingoistic, very anti-scientific, and, really, Know-Nothing” elements of the address.

The left-wing host concluded that “on science, on war and peace…I personally think this was a bad address for the American people.” Matthews later went on a tear on how Romney was apparently “narrow-minded…small and insular and piggish…to say, we don’t care about the planet we live on, which is getting hotter.”

Alan Mulally, the head of Ford now, has taken them to number five in the country as a profitable corporation. Ford is back as the number five most profitable company in the country right now.

Again, back to you, John, it seems to me that somebody should have paid attention to the fact that Mulally having this kind of gift and ability to do this kind of thing, and he didn’t bet on him. Obama bet on him.

Liberal MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews conceded on Monday night, “Liberals don’t want to pay more” in taxes. “It’s all a game,” The Hardball host admitted this while appearing at Ford’s Theater on Monday night to discuss presidential leadership.

The wide-ranging discussion included historians Harold Holzer and Michael Beschloss. Matthews wandered off the main topic of Lincoln and Kennedy. In a discussion of money and politics, he insisted that some liberals really don’t want their taxes raised.

Matthews noted an Obama fund-raising trip out to Los Angeles. “The Hollywood people all support him.” He added that Obama is basically saying, “I’m going to run as a populist” and raise taxes. “It’s a masquerade. Liberals don’t want to pay more,” Matthews spewed.

Tingles: White Voters are Holding Obama to a Higher Standard or Something

Chris Matthews' claim that white voters will hold President Obama to a higher standard in 2012 because he is black is ridiculous. He is just trying to make you feel guilty that you might be a closet racist. You aren't. A white candidate with Obama's background and experience could have never been elected in 2008 and if one somehow had of been elected, they would be undergoing impeachment proceedings now. In many ways, President Obama is a novelty President. Now that Americans have mostly gotten that out of their system, let's elect a qualified leader in 2012.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Professor Peterson, let me ask you about white votes.
Do you have a sense as you’ve looked at politics in America that there are some white voters who will vote for an African-American say once? And they will hold that person to a very rigorous standard. Perhaps a much higher standard than they would a white politician.
And they’ll give them one shot and then they’ll dump them the next time.
I look at this, I look at the Ed Brooke. I look at the senator from Illinois. I think about this–
