Stupid: Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu thinks South Dakota is a border state...
Is this really the best Louisiana can do?

Looks like geography lessons may be in order for the U.S. Senate.
Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu made an embarrassing gaffe Thursday during a debate on the Senate Floor, stating that South Dakota borders Canada.
The Southerner seemed to have overlooked the state’s northern neighbor, North Dakota.
The comment came during a floor discussion on an amendment regarding a security fence, presented by South Dakota Republican John Thune.
She was trying to express her opposition to Thune’s proposal about constructing a 350-mile double layered fence along the Mexico border, saying that she places more trust in the opinion of Arizona Sen. John McCain — because McCain’s state borders Mexico.
“A smart fence which is what Senator McCain and I want to build – since he’s from Arizona, I think he knows more about this than the Senator from South Dakota, who only has a border with Canada that is quite different.”
Landrieu, 57, chairs the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee.
Her office did not respond to a request for comment about the buzz over the mistake.

Oh, About Those Special Deals Obama Wanted Removed from Health Care Reform

President Barack Obama has said he wants projects helping specific states removed from the health care bill, but political reality is taking over. The "Cornhusker Kickback" may be removed because Senator Nelson has requested it be taken out. Senator's Landrieu of Louisiana, Dodd of Connecticut, Baucus of Montana and Nelson of Florida want to keep their special deals. We can guess the UAW is keeping their special exemption for Michigan too. As part of Obama's 'whatever it takes' strategy, these special deals may be left in the legislation.
FOX News reported:
Axelrod also indicated the White House was backing down on an attempt to get senators to rid the legislation of a number of lawmakers' special deals.
Taking a new position, he said the White House only objects to state-specific arrangements, such as an increase in Medicaid funding for Nebraska, ridiculed as the "Cornhusker Kickback." That's being cut, but provisions that could affect more than one state are OK, Axelrod said...

Dem Sen. Mary Landrieu Defends “the Louisiana Purchase” and Tells Naysayers to “keep their mouth shut”
Yeah, this will win a lot of votes. Sen. Landrieu keeps repeating that she didn't "throw the people of her state under a bus." Keep repeating that Senator. Maybe, someday, you will really believe it.

Funny Video: Senator Mary Landrieu Claims 'I Can't Be Bought'
Senator Mary Landrieu, you are correct when you say, "people don't believe this, but I can't be bought." Your actions speak much louder than your words.

Landrieu To Hold A Fundraiser For Harry Reid In Appreciation Of The $300 million 'Louisiana Purchase'

Chicago style politics are coming to Louisiana. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid inserted a $300 million buy-off into his version of Obamacare in order to secure Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu's (D-La) vote Saturday night. She will return the favor by holding a fundraiser for Reid in New Orleans next month.
Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., will host a fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., in New Orleans next month, an event that comes on the heels of Reid's assistance getting Louisiana a windfall of Medicaid money in the health care reform bill.

Landrieu Blames ABC Report of $100 Million Buy-off on 'Very Partisan Republican Bloggers' (video)
Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., announced she would support the cloture vote to start debate on Harry Reid's version of Obamacare. This is not surprising considering the $100 million buy-off Harry Reid put in the bill to buy encourage her to vote yes. She blames Republican bloggers for the story and denies that only Louisiana will receive the money.
Analysts disagree with Landrieu's assessment.

But Landrieu's assertion that "any other state" would be eligible isn't completely honest, as Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer pointed out on Fox News Nov. 20.
"If you look at the sections, it is 2006 in which the Louisiana money, it looks as if it is provision for all states which have had a proclamation of a disaster area in the last seven years, and then the fine print inside eliminates all the others except Louisiana," Krauthammer said.

Landrieu was able to insert language into the bill that would specifically benefit Louisiana, by protecting the state from the full effects of what the Jindal administration has warned would be a devastating drop in federal Medicaid funding in 2011 due to an anomalous spike in per capita income in the state because of a rush of recovery money into the state in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The Congressional Budget Office priced the so-called FMAP fix for Louisiana at $100 million, but Landrieu said she expects it will bring $300 million or more in Medicaid funding to the state.
Another $100 million Goes Into the Legislative Sausage Grinder

People have been admonished to not watch sausage or legislation being made because it is an unappetizing process. While this may be true, Americans have a responsibility to swallow hard and take a close look at what Congress is doing. They are using hundreds of millions of our tax dollars to buy legislator's votes. This blog previously reported the $200 million in loan forgiveness for veterinarians that was included in the House health care reform bill to secure the vote of Representative Louise Slaughter (D-NY). Now, Harry Reid is spending $100 million to
What does it take to get a wavering senator to vote for health care reform?
