NJ Gov. Chris Christie finally pardons licensed CC mother who accidentally brought her gun to NJ

Well, Gov. Christie was slow, but he did the right thing in the end. Now, can we get the moron prosecutor in her case, John McClain, fired?

Via The Washington Examiner:
Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., has pardoned Shaneen Allen, the Philadelphia mother of two who was arrested in 2013 after she accidentally carried her legally licensed firearm into New Jersey.
Christie signed the pardon on Tuesday, stating:
I, Chris Christie, governor of the State of New Jersey, by virtue of the authority conferred upon me by the Constitution of the State of New Jersey and the statutes of the state, do hereby grant Shaneen Denise Allen, a full and free pardon for all criminal charges and indictments arising from the arrest occurring October 1, 2013 to include the aforesaid crimes, and this order is applicable solely to said criminal charges and indictments, and to no other.
Allen was driving in Atlantic City, N.J., in October 2013 when she was pulled over for a traffic offense. She informed the officer that she had her firearm, for which she had a Pennsylvania concealed-carry permit, in the car. She was arrested and charged with a felony. Keep on reading...
If Christie was a real conservative, he would seriously work to change NJ's extreme gun control laws.

Retired teacher runs afoul of NJ gun law because of 300-year-old flintlock...

This is where prosecutor discretion should kick in, but most prosecutors are idiots with their own political agendas.

Via The Blaze:
He had an unloaded antique 300-year-old flintlock pistol in his glove compartment, and he told a sheriff’s deputy about it.
That was his undoing.
Gordon van Gilder admits he may have run afoul of the law — but, “as a wise man once said, if that’s the law, the law is an ass.”
The retired teacher is facing a possible 10 years in prison — and the jeopardization of his pension — all because New Jersey state law classifies antique firearms the same way it classifies regular guns, meaning the state views van Gilder’s possession of an antique on par with him possessing a .44 Magnum.
The day after van Gilder told a deputy during a routine traffic stop about his antique gun, four law enforcement officers showed up at his house to arrest him.
Van Gilder said he’s fighting the felony gun possession charges, but the whole experience has soured his impression of the Garden State.
“Beware of New Jersey,” he told the National Rifle Association. “Don’t come here. Don’t live here.”
Chris Christie is from New Jersey and he hasn't fixed this stupidity.

Don't tell anybody, but there is an anaconda loose in a NJ lake...

Photograph by LA Dawson

Reportedly, the green anaconda is 16-foot-long. What could go wrong?
A reptile expert said Friday that he wants to go "on the record" and confirm that New Jersey authorities are searching for an anaconda, not a boa constrictor, in the state's largest lake.
"I was sworn to keep my mouth shut by local officials to avoid causing a panic," Gerald Andrejcak, the specialist, told NJ.com. "Now that there's a panic, I'm going on the record."
He said when the snake was called a boa, it wasn't exactly a lie, because the snakes are technically in the same family. However, anacondas, made famous by the 1997 movie starring Jennifer Lopez, can send chills through a community because their diet consists of deer and other large mammals. They also have no natural predators.
Andrejack, who works for Common Sense for Animals, was searching Lake Hopatcong in Jefferson Township, which is in the northern part of the state. He told the paper that he determined it was a green anaconda last week after hearing reports about the snake's behavior and where it was spotted.
He said he told a member of the Hopatcong animal control about his suspicions and was told to keep quiet.

Change: 800,000 New Jerseyans don't get to keep their health insurance plan...

But...but...Obama said we could keep our plan is we like our plan.

Via Star Ledger:
Hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans opened the mail last week to find their health insurance plan would no longer exist in 2014 because it does not cover all the essential benefits required by the Affordable Care Act.
The news surprised some who were unaware that provisions in the new law known as “Obamacare” were forcing insurance companies to scrap some plans they had previously offered.
“The Affordable Care Act is driving many changes to products and pricing,” said Thomas Vincz, a spokesman for Horizon. “Horizon BCBSNJ is actively working to help our members find new insurance plans that meet their needs and budget.”
The changes will impact more than 800,000 people in New Jersey who purchase insurance on the individual and small-employer markets, according to Ward Sanders, president of the New Jersey Association of Health Plans.

Fail: Chris Christie's New Jersey one of ten worst states for business climate

The rating is tied to tax rates. Christie's BFF Barack Obama must be proud.

Via WaPo:
Northeastern states dominate the bottom 10, thanks to higher taxes on corporations and complicated tax codes. New York came in last place, while Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey and Maryland all fell in the bottom 10. California, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Minnesota all have tax rates high enough to qualify for the bottom 10.
Expect the Republican Governors Association to celebrate the rankings: Seven of the top 10 states are run by Republican governors, while seven of the bottom 10 states are run by Democrats.
The rankings won’t stay static next year. Drenkard said a package of tax reforms signed by Gov. Pat McCrory (R) earlier this year will move North Carolina out of the bottom 10; had those tax rules been in effect by the July 1 beginning of the fiscal year, North Carolina would have qualified for 17th place on the list.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will be HuffPo Arianna Huffington's guest at WH Correspondents’ Dinner..

As far as I am concerned, the Democrats can have him...

Via TPM:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) will be one of three high-profile Garden State guests to accompany media mogul Arianna Huffington to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this month, the Star-Ledger reported.
Along with Christie, the Huffington Post founder will be bringing two other New Jersey natives to the annual dinner: musician Jon Bon Jovi and basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal.

NJ Gov. Chris Christie has an astounding 35-point lead in New Jersey

It looks like helping Obama get re-elected was popular in the blue state of New Jersey...
Seven months before New Jersey voters go to the polls, Gov. Chris Christie continues to enjoy a more than 2-1 lead over his most likely Democratic challenger, state Senator Barbara Buono, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday. Although Ms. Buono is expected to win her party’s June primary, polls show Mr. Christie beating her 60%-25% in the November gubernatorial contest.
Mr. Christie’s advantage comes with a 70% job approval rating. This result continues the governor’s “four-month string of +70 percent approval ratings, the highest score of any governor in the seven states surveyed” by Quinnipiac…The poll finds Mr. Christie maintaining leads among men and women. He defeats Ms. Buono in every region of the state, the poll press release notes, including 48%-36% “in urban areas, normally Democratic strongholds.” While a vein of national Republicans grumbled at Mr. Christie’s November embrace of President Obama in the days after the fall storm, 90% of New Jersey Republicans are standing by their man.

Fail: Alabama relief crew turned away from New Jersey because they are not union...

Gov. Chris Christie should quit helping Obama campaign and take care to prevent this kind of stupidity...

Relief crews from Alabama who were specifically called to New Jersey found themselves diverted to Long Island, NY after they arrived because they use non-union labor. Alabama is a right-to-work state.

WAFF-TV of Hunstville, AL reports:

Crews from Huntsville, as well as Decatur Utilities and Joe Wheeler out of Trinity headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees....
Understandably, Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."

Obama in Trouble in New York and New Jersey?

Look for President Obama's re-election team to start leaping out windows of tall buildings.

Siena College poll
finds only 36% of New Yorkers approve of Obama's job performance.
The poll finds that just 36% of New Yorkers approve of Obama's job performance -- a 17-point plummet from the 53% rating he received in May. Meanwhile, 63% of voters give the president a negative job performance rating.

"His job performance has not fallen, it has tanked," said Siena pollster Steven Greenberg.

"Even Democrats are evenly divided. For the first time since March, fewer than half of voters say they are prepared to re-elect the president.

Quinnipiac poll finds only 44% 0f New Jersey voters plan to vote for Obama.

President Barack Obama is headed in the wrong direction as New Jersey voters disapprove 52 - 44 percent of the job he is doing, down from a 50 - 46 percent positive score June 21 and the president's lowest score ever in the Garden State.
...
New Jersey voters say 49 - 45 percent that Obama does not deserve to be reelected, but say 45 - 37 percent that they would vote for Obama over an unnamed Republican challenger in the 2012 presidential race.

Republicans win big in New Jersey and Virginia

Republicans have picked up the Governorships of Virginia and New Jersey. Virginia was not a surprise. Recent Polling had Republican Bob McDonnell up by a double digit lead. The final margin of victory was larger than expected at 17 points. New Jersey was expected to be close, but Democrats usually win those after finding several boxes full of uncounted Democratic ballots. The 4 point margin of victory by Republican Chris Christie over current Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine precluded the kind of behind the scenes election stealing Democrats have become famous for in recent years. President Obama campaigned heavily for Corzine. The night wasn't a complete success for Republicans. The Conservative candidate in NY-23, Doug Hoffman, lost a close race to the Democrat Bill Owens. This race was marred by the liberal Republican candidate dropping out and endorsing the Democrat. Her supporters broke 3-1 for the Democrat. Meanwhile, President Obama claimed he wasn't interested. Reportedly, he watched a Chicago Bulls basketball game instead of election results. I doubt that is accurate, but we can be sure blue dog Democrats were watching.

FOX News reported:
Republicans swept to victory in the New Jersey and Virginia governor's races Tuesday, scoring a pair of decisive wins in states that voted for President Obama a year ago.

The Democrats were able to prevent a shut-out, though, pulling out a narrow victory in a closely watched congressional election in upstate New York. Democrat Bill Owens beat Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in that race.

The Republican victories nevertheless marked a potential turnaround after two consecutive cycles of midterm losses. In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie beat out Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine, even though Obama campaigned heavily for the incumbent in the closing days of the race and the state has not elected a Republican governor since 1993.

Here is a picture to celebrate the first Republican New Jersey Governor in over two decades.

Can Republicans Score a Triple Tomorrow?

The three hotly contested and closely watched races on November 3rd are the Virginia Governor's race, the New Jersey Governor's and the special election for for the NY-23 seat in the House of Representatives. Loss of any of these races is a blow to President Obama and the Democratic Party. After the 2008 elections, Democrats were hoping to ride the wave of Obama's popularity and newly registered Democratic voters for years to come. The polls indicate the Virginia Governor's race is a lost cause for Democrats. NY-23 doesn't look very likely since Republican state Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava dropped out. Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman has surged in the poll. New Jersey is too close to call, but could fall to the Republicans.

The Telegraph reported:
Victories in the governors' races in Virginia and New Jersey and a contest for a vacant House of Representatives seat in New York would deliver a blow to Mr Obama almost exactly a year to the day since he won the presidency.

A rejection of Democrats in all three contests would be a major setback for Mr Obama because he has invested a large amount of time and personal political capital by campaigning extensively in the two governor elections.

RCP Poll Average Has Christie (R) By +1

The Real Clear Politics poll average for the New Jersey's Governor's race has Republican Chris Christie up by 1 point over rivals Democrat Jon Corzine and Independent Chris Daggett. The poll numbers are well within the margin of error for the polling samples. That makes this race too close to call. Please note the most accurate pollster from 2008, Rasmussen, has Christie up by three. Up to 5% of the New Jersey electorate is still undecided. Undecided's usually break heavily for the challenger.

Democrats to lose two Governorships?

Will the Democrats to lose two Governorships in the upcoming election? The polls indicate that may be the outcome. Both races are being determined by national issues. In spite of the fact Barack Obama won both states by a significant margin, voters are unhappy.

From Reuters via Yahoo:

New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, a close Obama ally, is struggling to win re-election in the face of a strong challenge by Republican Christopher Christie...

...A Washington Post poll published on Friday gave McDonnell a commanding lead of 53 percent to 44 percent, with less than a month to go until election day.
