Strange: British Foreign Office human rights violators report contains twice as much about Israel as Iran...
The Jews must be much more evil than the Mullahs or something...

The British Foreign Office included Israel as “a country of concern” in a report on human rights violators.
Israel appeared on a list in a quarterly report on human rights and democracy issued Thursday by the foreign office of 28 countries accused of perpetrating human rights violations.
The report cites the Gaza war of last year and other recent violence on the joint border, Israeli settlement expansion and Israel’s withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
It also criticized the Palestinian Authority for not effectively controlling protests, but said that Israel also was culpable for withholding the money used to pay Palestinian police.
The part of the report on human rights violations in Iran was half as long as the part about Israel, according to the European Jewish Press.

Strange: UN Panel Approves Report Praising Gaddafi’s Human Rights Record
The Libyan people thought so much of his human rights record, they revolted and killed him.
(Fox News) — United Nations panel has adopted a report praising Qaddafi-era Libya for its human rights record, a year after the report was sidelined amid international objection.
The report initially came before the U.N. Human Rights Council in the middle of the uprising against the Muammar Qaddafi regime. At the time, the U.N. had just voted to suspend Libya from the rights council — under pressure to maintain a consistent message toward Libya, the council later postponed consideration of the report.
But the Human Rights Council on Wednesday returned to the document — and approved it.
U.N. Watch Director Hillel Neuer blasted the council for the move, saying the panel should have called a new session entirely to review Qaddafi’s “heinous crimes.”
“The council should have set an example of accountability by acknowledging that its original review was deeply flawed,” he said in a statement, claiming the report served to “falsely praise Qaddafi’s oppressive regime, insult his victims and harm the reputation of the U.N.”

Michelle Obama Called Out for Failure to Support Afghanistan Women's Rights
Michelle Obama has been very silent on the plight of Afghanistan's women. The situation had improved some during the Bush administration, but the situation is now deteriorating for women again. They have been forced back into the burks and are being treated like cattle. An article in the Afghanistan Press has called Michelle Obama out for ignoring the plight of Afghanistan's women.
First Lady Champions Rights of Afghan Women
Laura Bush joined the fight for Afghanistan's women's human rights early in President Bush's 1st term. She continued it to the end and hasn't stopped yet.
I guess Michelle Obama is too busy trying to make us eat our peas.
The woman of Afghanistan are facing a crisis which threatens to roll back many of the advances in equality and human rights that the West promised after the fall of the Taliban. Brothels in Kabul continue to service NATO officials and contractors, burkas are once again becoming the norm, and Afghan women continued to be legally viewed as mere property of their families and husbands, with criminal penalties for failing to act as property. What is Michele Obama ignoring? Here is a sample.
As one of her supporters, this author expected more from First Lady Michelle Obama. While she has won praise for her excellent fashion sense and her support for healthy foods, both issues are safe and uncontroversial. The American people bestowed upon her a unique and priceless soap box on which she can stand and command attention. As perhaps the most popular and respected person in America, her powerful voice has been silent on far too many important issues. One of those issues is the Obama Administration’s failure to support women’s rights in Afghanistan....
...It turns out that 50% of the women in Afghan jails committed no crimes that are recognized in the West or in most countries in the East and South. They are jailed for moral crimes. This includes women fleeing abusive marriages (which is a crime); women who refuse to marry those to whom they have been promised (which is a crime) and those who have been raped by relatives. The latter crime is called “zina,” which is a Farsi/Dari term for adultery. The difference in Afghanistan is that a wife who is raped by a male relative is almost automatically guilty of zina as she can almost never prove her innocence....In contrast, former First Lady Laura Bush was an outspoken supporter of human rights of Afghanistan's women. Here is a video from December 2008. Barbara Bush was speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations, on the 60th anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Mind-Exploding Hypocrisy: UN Condemns Libya for Human Rights Violations
The UN Security Council voted unanimously to condemn Libya for gross human rights violations.
Late Saturday night, history was made in New York. Every member of the UN security council raised their hand to support a resolution condemning the gross violations of human rights in Libya.Where is the mind-exploding hypocrisy, you ask? Libya was overwhelmingly voted a member of the UN Human Rights Council less than a year ago.
They all voted not only to impose sweeping sanctions on Libya's rulers but also to refer the situation in the country to the international criminal court (ICC) for investigations into possible crimes against humanity.
Astonishingly, in May 2010, in a secret ballot, Libya received a shocking 155 votes (out of 192 countries), and was elected to the UN Human Rights Council.Moammar Gadhafi is the same person he was less than a year ago when he received 155 of 195 votes for the UN's Human Rights Council.
The world was certainly aware of the vast litany of domestic and international crimes committed by the Gadhafi regime. Even in the corridors of the UN there was occasional talk and concern about Libya’s human rights practices, such as extrajudicial and summary executions, systematic use of torture, and the imposition of the death penalty for political and economic offenses.

Obama Administration Calls Unions a Human Right in U.N. Report and Refers to 'Card Check' Legislation
Among the tidbits buried in the first Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report of U.S. Human Rights issues was the section excerpted (starting on page 6) below. The Obama administration has declared unionization a human right and indirectly equated it to freedom of speech, freedom of religion and other normal human rights.
Making it very easy for unions to organize workers is now a stated U.S human Rights goal. The primary bill among the 'several bills' the Obama administration is referring to is the ironically named Employee Free Choice Act which is commonly called 'Card Check.' This bill does away with secret ballot elections for unionization. When a union gets over 50% cards signed, they have won. There is no election. Supporters of the bill claim it still allows an election to be called when 30% have signed cards (same as current law), but only the union doing the organizing can petition for an election. Anti-union workers and businesses don't have that right. Unions normally don't call elections now until they have at least 60% cards signed because many people will sign a card, but vote no during the secret ballot election. Unionization elections will be a thing of the past if this bill passes. 'Card Check' has already passed the House and is pending in the Senate. Shamefully, stripping workers of their right to a secret ballot vote is now a stated U.S. Human rights goal.
If you wonder why 'card check' is bad, let progressive and labor supporter George McGovern explain the issue to you.

23. Freedom of association also protects workers and their right to organize. The labor movement in the United States has a rich history, and the right to organize and bargain collectively under the protection of the law is the bedrock upon which workers are able to form or join a labor union. Workers regularly use legal mechanisms to address complaints such as threats, discharges, interrogations, surveillance, and wages-and-benefits cuts for supporting a union. These legal regimes are continuously assessed and evolving in order to keep pace with a modern work environment. Our UPR consultations included workers from a variety of sectors, including domestic workers who spoke about the challenges they face in organizing effectively. Currently there are several bills in our Congress that seek to strengthen workers’ rights—ensuring that workers can continue to associate freely, organize, and practice collective bargaining as the U.S. economy continues to change. (emphasis mine)

U.S. to join anti-Israel U.N. Human Rights Council
The Obama Administration is reversing a Bush Administration decision to shun the anti-Israel U.N. Human Rights Council. The U.S. will participate in May elections for a seat on the 47-member council. The stated purpose is to reform the body from within. Current members are such well know human rights advocates as China, Cuba, Indonesia, Russia and Saudi Arabia. The Council has a history of ingnoring human rights and condemming Israel. According to a jta.org article,
The Anti-Defamation League has expressed concern about the Obama administration's decision. There is little chance of reforming this organization. The U.S. has only one vote on this council and most of the members are Israel haters or current human rights abusers.
Since its creation in 2006 to replace the widely discredited U.N. Commission on Human Rights, the council has passed 32 resolutions; 26 have been critical of Israel, according to UN Watch. More than half of the council’s members fall short of basic democracy standards, according to Freedom House, a democracy watchdog group. And in the past two years the council has moved to eliminate its country-specific special experts investigating human rights abuses in Darfur, Congo, Cuba, Belarus and Liberia.
