Petition to keep NASA budget above 1% of budget total
For a President who claims he is in the side of science, Obama sure isn't funding anything that isn't a green scam. During the height of the space race, NASA's budget was above 4%. Now, we have to have a petition to keep it above 1% of budget total. In 2013, the percentage drops to a half a percent. Meanwhile, we have to hitchhike into space with the Russians.

In 1961, at the height of the space race, the NASA budget was 4.41% of federal outlays (Guardian: http://tinyurl.com/cxhopj6). In 2005, despite the federal government spending only ~$15 billion on NASA, $180 billion of economic activity was created by this outlay (Space Foundation report: http://tinyurl.com/bq8bqxl).
The 2013 budget expects ~$19 billion of funding for NASA (Guardian link above), or half of a percent of spending; truly this is a pittance, but one that yields vast economic and scientific rewards.
NASA advances our nation when well-funded; by guaranteeing that no less than 1% of federal spending will be on NASA, we promote job creation, encourage creativity in the economy, and gain insight on our universe.
1% is a small financial guarantee of progress in the final frontier!

Amusing: WH increases petition signatures to 100,000 in 30 days for a response...
Cowards...

Via Daily Caller:
President Barack Obama’s deputies have quadrupled the number of signatures that petitioners must collect to get an official response from the White House, following a series of popular, provocative and disrespectful signature drives by his critics.
Some of the petitions sought approval for states to secede after Obama’s re-election, while others called on the White House to disavow executive orders that restrict gun rights, or to deport CNN’s British-born, progressive host Piers Morgan.
“Starting today, as we move into a second term, petitions must receive 100,000 signatures in 30 days in order to receive an official response from the Obama Administration,” said an early evening Jan. 15 statement from Macon Phillips, the White House’s digital strategy director. Keep on reading...

Heartache: The administration has decided against building a Death Star..
The Obama administration has responded to the petition to build a Death Star. The answer is no. Oh well, the Obama administration would have likely used it for evil anyway.
The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon. Here are a few reasons:
- The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
- The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
- Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?

Good News: Death Star petition passes 25,000 threshold
Someone in the Obama administration will now have to respond. Obama only needs $852,000,000,000,000,000 for construction. It would be the greatest job creating public works project of all time.

Death Star petition:
Our favorite of these petitions this month has to be from Colorado man “John D” who, as we reported last week, wants the government to secure resources and funding to begin the construction of a Death Star by 2016.Petitions on the White House website require 25,000 signatures to be eligible for a response, and that number was exceeded today.
His rationale for building the mega-weapon from the ‘Star Wars‘ movies is as much public works project than direct threat to the little green men who could be living below Mars’ surface.
“By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense,” he writes.

Asinine: Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler allowed to sign WI Gov. Walker recall petition
In other news, Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler appear to be Democrats.
...The signatures of Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler will be counted on recall petitions targeting Gov. Scott Walker as long as they are properly dated and include a Wisconsin address, the board charged with reviewing the petitions was told Tuesday.
Suspicious signatures will b noted when the Government Accountability Board reviews the petitions, but reviewers will look to see that signatures are accompanied by a Wisconsin address and are dated as having been signed during the circulation period, board elections specialist David Buerger said.
"We will flag them, but we will not strike them without challenge,'' Buerger said after being asked whether Mickey Mouse's signature would be counted. He noted that in previous recall petitions, Adolf Hitler's name was struck because the address given was in Germany, not because of the name itself.... Read more here...
