GM Recall Grows Another 8.2 Million

GM is in recall Hell...
General Motors Co.’s growing recall crisis ballooned Monday as the Detroit automaker called back 8.45 million more vehicles worldwide in six new recall campaigns — including 8.2 million cars for unintended ignition key rotation linked to reports of three deaths and eight injuries.
Monday’s recalls for ignition switch issues are the latest major campaigns for related problems since February, when GM began calling back 2.6 million Chevrolet Cobalts, Saturn Ions and other cars linked to at least 13 deaths and 54 crashes for defective switches. The callbacks were announced the same day GM opened a victims compensation fund for crashes linked to the Cobalt recall that could cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
GM has now recalled 14.8 million vehicles this year for ignition switch problems — more than doubling the total on Monday — amid growing scrutiny of vehicles whose ignition keys can move out of the “on” position and cause air bags to not deploy in a crash.

GM 2014 recalled vehicles now at 4.8 million and the year is only three months old

If GM holds this recall pace, they will hit 12 million vehicles in 2014. That's going to leave a mark on the financial statement.

Via The NY Times:
General Motors announced on Saturday morning that it was recalling 490,000 trucks and 172,000 compact cars, meaning the automaker has now recalled about 4.8 million vehicles in the United States during the first three months of the year. That is about six times the number of vehicles it recalled in all of 2013.
This year’s recalls involve many of G.M.’s most popular and best-known models.
The recall announced on Saturday morning covers the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, as well as the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL with six-speed automatic transmissions. G.M. said a loose fitting for the transmission’s oil cooler line could allow oil leaks and possibly lead to fires. The automaker said it was aware of three fires but no injuries linked to the defect, and officials decided to recall the vehicles within a week of learning of the problem, said Alan Adler, a G.M. spokesman.
The compact cars being recalled are the 2013-14 Cruze models with 1.4 liter four-cylinder engines. G.M. said the right-front axle half-shaft could break, cutting power to the front wheels, although the engine would continue to run and the steering and brakes would still function. The company said it was aware of several dozen episodes but was not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the problem.

Amusing: CNN Anchor Shuts Down Colo. Recall Loser for Claiming Voter Suppression

Too much BS for even CNN... CNN Anchor Shuts Down Colo. Recall Loser for Claiming Voter Suppression

I am surprised Angela Giron only lost by 11 points. Giron cancelled townhalls so she wouldn't have to listen to her constituents complain about the new gun laws she helped pass. She has heard from them now.

Victory: Two Demo lawmakers in Colorado recalled over support for tougher gun control laws

After Congress failed to enact tougher gun laws after the Newtown shooting, these democratic legislators led an effort in Colorado to ban 15-round limits on ammunition magazines and expand background checks on private gun sales. 23 percent of registered voters signed a petition to have a recall vote. They have both now been replaced by republicans.

Via FOX News:
Two Democratic lawmakers in Colorado, including the president of the state senate, were recalled Tuesday in elections brought about by their support for tougher gun control laws.
According to unofficial results, voters in Colorado Springs favored recalling state Sen. John Morse, the body's president, by 51 percent to 49 percent. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, state Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo was defeated in her recall election, 56 percent to 44 percent.
The Colorado Republican Party called the vote results "a loud and clear message to out-of-touch Democrats across the nation" in a statement released late Tuesday. Colorado's Democratic governor, John Hickenlooper, said he was "disappointed by the outcome of the recall elections" before calling on state residents to "refocus again on what unites Coloradans -- creating jobs, educating our children, creating a healthier state -- and on finding ways to keep Colorado moving forward."

GM gives criminals eluding police a chance. Recalls 38,000 Chevrolet Impala police cars...

This story is brought to you by President Obama and the UAW...

Via AP by ABC News:
General Motors is recalling more than 38,000 Chevrolet Impala police cars in the U.S. and Canada because a part in the front suspension can crack and cause a crash.

The recall affects police cars from the 2008 through 2012 model years. The lower control arm in the suspension can fracture, causing sudden changes in handling that could make the driver lose control, GM said in documents posted Saturday on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

Impalas sold to the public have some different suspension parts and are not affected by the recall, spokesman Alan Adler said. "We tested for durability on the civilian Impala, and we believe there are no issues," he said.

Holder dispatches federal observers to Milwaukee to monitor Walker recall

The Black panthers weren't available?
Washington (CNN) — The Justice Department Monday dispatched federal observers to Milwaukee to monitor the closely-watched recall election of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. The Voting Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division said Milwaukee is among specific voting locations required to provide assistance to Spanish speaking citizens. . . .
The Justice Department declined to say how many monitors have been sent to these locations, but from past practice the number is likely in the dozens. In prior general elections, the Justice Department has sent as many as one thousand federal observers and civil rights attorneys to coordinate federal activities and work with local elections officials.

WI Walker recall Opponent Shares Stage At Rally With Rapper Singing “Bitches Who Ride Me”

Democrat and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett accused GOP Governor Scott walker of waging a "war on women"...

Via Beltway Confidential:
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has accused Gov. Scott Walker, R-Wis., of waging a “war on women,” but he yieled his spot on stage at a Wisconsin rally to a rapper who sang a misogynistic song even as Barrett greeted voters.
Barrett wrote a column Wednesday alleging that “under Walker, a war on women has been waged that has weakened protections for equal pay for equal work, and jeopardized women’s health and reproductive freedom.”

WI Gov. Walker's recall opponent disses Police to meet with union supporters

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was on the program for an event to recognize Milwaukee police officers killed in the line of duty. He blew it off to meet with his union lapdogs.
MILWAUKEE – It turns out, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was in Oshkosh talking with union organizers when he missed an event in Milwaukee honoring law enforcement in southeast Wisconsin, including Milwaukee Police officers.

Law enforcement officials are angered and looking for answers after Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett did not attend two separate law enforcement recognition ceremonies this week, including one that recognizes Milwaukee police officers killed in the line of duty.

On Tuesday evening, the Milwaukee police department held their annual Merit Awards Ceremony. Mayor Barrett was scheduled to be at that event. Organizers tell me he canceled so late that there wasn’t even time to take his name off the program. It was on the printed program that evening.

Asinine: Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler allowed to sign WI Gov. Walker recall petition

In other news, Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler appear to be Democrats.
...The signatures of Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler will be counted on recall petitions targeting Gov. Scott Walker as long as they are properly dated and include a Wisconsin address, the board charged with reviewing the petitions was told Tuesday.

Suspicious signatures will b noted when the Government Accountability Board reviews the petitions, but reviewers will look to see that signatures are accompanied by a Wisconsin address and are dated as having been signed during the circulation period, board elections specialist David Buerger said.

"We will flag them, but we will not strike them without challenge,'' Buerger said after being asked whether Mickey Mouse's signature would be counted. He noted that in previous recall petitions, Adolf Hitler's name was struck because the address given was in Germany, not because of the name itself.... Read more here...

#OccupyMilwaukee caught giving kids cigarettes to sign Walker recall petition?

If this video is what it appears to be, this is election fraud.

Occupy Milwaukee - Apparent Recall Walker Signature Fraud

Recall Walker Signature Collection Fraud — Cigarettes for Signatures

This video and pictures were collected on the corner of 7th and North Ave. in Milwaukee during the “Occupy Milwaukee” protest/takeover of the bridge. These appear to be children under the age of 18. They were also given cigarettes in exchange for their signatures. They were asked if it would be OK to contact them to enlist their help in getting signatures from their friends.

Wisconsin Unions Try to put Some Lipstick on a Pig

Wisconsin unions and outside pro-union forces spent as much as $40 million trying to recall enough Wisconsin GOP Senators to force a change of party control. They failed miserably. Unions only won 2 of the 6 recall contests. One of those was in a very democratic district. The other GOP candidate was mired in scandal. Of course, unions are trying to spin this into a victory.
But in toppling only two of the six lawmakers they targeted, some observers said the outcome could be a sign that labor's political clout isn't what it used to be.

Unions celebrated the ouster of two Republican state senators who supported Gov. Scott Walker's bill to curb collective bargaining rights for most state employees. Despite the historic wins for Wisconsin Democrats in Tuesday's voting, they still fell short of their goal to knock off at least three Republicans so they could take majority control of the state Senate and be able to block Walker and the Republicans' conservative agenda.
The outcome falls somewhere between a victory and a loss for beleaguered unions, said Doug Schoen, a Democratic political strategist.

"Organized labor certainly didn't lose any ground," Schoen said. "They didn't fundamentally alter the political environment, but they sent a strong message to Republicans that what they are doing is not without peril."

That's the silver lining union officials were spinning Wednesday. Keep on reading...

Union Thugs At Work?

Last week a group trying to recall Wisconsin Democratic State Senator Dave Hansen because he fled the state instead of doing his job and voting on a bill to restrict public employee bargaining rights announced they had enough signatures on a recall petition to get the ball rolling. This week, their office is broken into and recall petitions are stolen.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) — Police in Green Bay are looking into a burglary at an office used by a group seeking to recall Democratic State Senator Dave Hansen.

Authorities say it most likely happened between 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. on Friday.

In an e-mail, group organizer David Vander Leest says petitions, t-shirts and a computer were taken from the office at 1136 West Mason Street.

Vander Leest also blamed the incident on the “opposition of Recall Dave Hansen.”

SEIU and Wisconsin Democrats Trying To Recall GOP State Senators

The SEIU is trying to get voters to sign a petition to force recall elections for GOP State Senators. Can't they just leave the dead alone?
(The Hill) — In the latest salvo surrounding Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) controversial budget plan, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin on Wednesday endorsed recall efforts against several GOP state senators....

The AFL-CIO circulated the announcement to Washington reporters. The SEIU is also helping gather signatures; their appeal says that 15,000 are needed in each district to force a recall.

Government Motors Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles For Fire Safety

General Motors announced it is recalling 1.5 million vehicles for a fire safety issue with the windshield washer heaters. They will not fix the defective heaters. Instead, GM will remove the heater and give the vehicle owners $100. Why didn't Toyota think of this solution for their accelerator problem?

AutoWeek reported:
General Motors Co. said it is recalling 1.5 million vehicles with heated washer-fluid systems following engine fires...

The recalls, to begin by June 14, will affect 18 models of 2006-2009 Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, GMCs, Hummers and Saturns, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site today...

GM said it plans to pay $100 to vehicle owners as compensation for permanently disabling and removing the heated washer fluid system.

Toyota thinks Obama is “not industry friendly”

Well, President Obama is certainly very UAW friendly. He has spent close to $100 billion in our tax dollars in an attempt to save GM and Chrysler. This has left the US Government owning the majority of GM and a significant share of Chrysler. When the people who own your competitor get to make recall decisions that can cost billions, it smells bad even if the recall decision is the correct one. On top of this, liberal democrats tend to be 'regulatory happy.' Why wouldn't Toyota, the other transplants and even Ford view the Obama administration in an adversarial way?
Internal Toyota documents derided the Obama administration and Democratic Congress as “activist” and “not industry friendly,” a revelation that comes days before the giant automaker’s top executives testify on Capitol Hill amid a giant recall.

According to a presentation obtained under subpoena by the House Oversight and Government Relations committee, Toyota referred to the “changing political environment” as one of its main challenges and anticipated a “more challenging regulatory” environment under the Obama administration’s purview.
