Alabama Legislature approves welfare drug testing for applicants with previous drug convictions...

I have had to pass a drug test several times to keep my current job. Most people have to pass a drug test when being hired. Welfare recipients are being employed by us taxpayers to take care of their children. That's a job and they should have to pass a drug test like the rest of us.

Via FOX10:
The Alabama Legislature has approved a bill to drug test welfare applicants who have had drug convictions within the last five years.
The House of Representatives voted 73-27 for the bill Thursday. It now goes to Gov. Robert Bentley for his signature.
A person could keep their benefits after one positive drug test. After a second positive, the person would be ineligible for one year. The recipient would be permanently ineligible after a third positive drug test.
Republican Rep. Kerry Rich told lawmakers he wanted to make sure people weren't using benefits to buy drugs.
Opposed lawmakers said the tests would cost the state money but accomplish little. The state already bans people with felony drug convictions from collecting benefits under Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.

Clueless: Al Sharpton Claims, "It’s Against The Law To Organize Unions” in Alabama

Although the people of Alabama might be better off if this was true, it is legal to organize a union in every state. Alabama is a right to work state. what this means is you don't have to join a union or pay dues as a condition of employment.

Alabama's unemployment rate keeps dropping

Nevada should consider passing a tough immigration law. It works wonders for the unemployment rate.
Alabama’s unemployment rate continues to drop amid state-wide enforcement of a new immigration law, despite Democratic efforts to block and stigmatize the popular reform.

December’s unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent, down from 8.7 percent in November and 9.8 percent in September.

“In the last three months alone, we’ve seen an unprecedented drop of 1.7 percentage points,” noted Alabama Republican Gov. Robert Bentley in a Jan. 20 statement.

“Our rate is once again below the national average, and over 41,000 more Alabamians are employed now than at the beginning of the year… but we still have work to do,” said Bentley.

The drop began after a bipartisan 2011 law toughened the state’s immigration enforcement policies.

Proof the Alabama Immigration Law Isn't Racist

Many Latinos fled the state after Alabama passed the toughest in the nation immigration enforcement law. Critics decried the law as racist. Martin Luther King III and Richard Trumka called the law "Jim Crow revisited" in a CNN Opinion Special. After doing a Google search, I can only find record of three people being arrested under the new law. One is a Hispanic man. U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez is intervening with the feds to get them to drop the deportation case. Another is a Japanese auto plant executive who was released and had charges dropped after his driver's license was faxed to a judge. The third is German manager with Mercedes-Benz. He was released after an associate retrieved his passport and visa and German driver's license. There could be more, but that is all I found with a Google search or on Al.com. The initial results hardly support this law as racist, unless you think Alabama is discriminating against auto manufacturing executives.

Consequences: Unemployment in Alabama drops a half a percent one month after controversial immigration law passes

Many have claimed illegal immigrants are taking jobs from American citizens. Alabama passed a tough new immigration enforcement law. We might expect to see a drop in the unemployment rate if illegal immigrants left the state to avoid the controversial and tough new immigration law. That may be what has happened in Alabama. Of course, there are other factors affecting unemployment.
(USA Today)- Nevada had the nation's highest unemployment rate for the 17th straight month. It was unchanged at 13.4%. California had the second-highest rate at 11.7%. Mississippi and Michigan had the next highest rates, both at 10.6%.

North Dakota reported the nation's lowest unemployment rate, at 3.5%. It was followed by Nebraska, at 4.2%.

Unemployment rates in Alabama, Michigan and Minnesota all dropped by a half of a percentage point — the biggest declines among states.

Federal Judge Rules Alabama Police Can Check Immigration Status

U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn also ruled that Alabama can check students immigration status. This is a huge win for citizens and legal residents.
(Politico) — A federal judge gave a green light for Alabama to enforce some of the most controversial parts of its toughest-in-the-nation immigration law, ruling that certain measures do not violate federal law.

U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn ruled that Alabama can enforce the law’s requirements for schools to verify students’ immigration status, and for police to determine citizenship and status of those they stop, detain or arrest. Police are allowed to arrest anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant during a routine traffic stop, under the law.

But Blackburn granted the Obama administration’s request to block certain portions of the law until she makes a final ruling. Those sections include provisions making it a crime to transport or harbor an illegal immigrant, or for an illegal immigrant to look for or perform work. Blackburn also blocked parts of the law that allow discrimination lawsuits against companies that hire illegal immigrants when they discharge or fail to hire a U.S. citizen, and forbidding employers from claiming as business tax deductions wages paid to illegal immigrants.

Heartless Alabama Mayor refuses to let homeless residents stay in trailers provided by FEMA

 Screen Capture Here.

If there is any justice in this world, the next tornado will flatten his house.
(MailOnline)- A mayor in a small town devastated by a tornado has sparked outrage over his refusal to let homeless residents stay in trailers provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Jack Scott has been branded heartless after his decision not to waive a local law banning single-wide trailers in the town of Cordova, Alabama.

He said he fears the temporary accommodation could become permanent and says he doesn't want run-down mobile homes parked all over town.

U of A shooter Amy Bishop was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama

I wonder how much play this information will get in the lamestream media. U of A shooter Amy Bishop was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama.

The Boston Herald reported:
A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children - the youngest a third-grade boy - was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.
